I got this from an employee that worked on the production floor at one of the facilities that made these patches. I'll contact him and see if he has any other Iron Maiden color trials. If he does have some that he's willing to part with I'll send you his contact information.

I've seen many auctions with these kind of patches, and I think from that same employee. It seems he carried out some boxes with these patches because he is selling quite some of them.

And that could very well be what he did haha! I work as a contractor in many food and beverage industries and I see employees at breweries taking three or four flats of alcohol daily that was rejected due to cosmetic defects to the cans or bottles.

Yes, it is an unfinished patch. Most color samples like this are discarded along with the rejects before they are given a backing and border. This particular one was saved by an employee.
