Since in the far past some people asked how I do my DIY-patches - here we go:
01. Iron on the interfacing on the backside to make the fabric stiff und strong enough for the embroidery (normalwise use one piece which is big enough and not serveral pieces you recycle 'cause you forgot to buy new one like me). Ignore the outlines I almost forgot to make a photo of the backside with interface on it.
02. After putting the fabric into the emroidery hoop sew on the print of the wanted motif and stitch the outlines with a thin needle.
03. After you're done with stitching the outlines, rip off gently (!) the paper. It's a pain in the ass, but be gently otherwise you could destroy the outlines. Don't forget to stitch the outlines of the borders, too.
04. The done outlines, backside.
05. Embroider the shit out of it! Use a thin and be patiend! No, really, embroider the small thin lines with a shitload of patience. The bigger areas you only have to take care of the outlines. Inside big areas don't give a fuck at all. XD As you can notice I fill bigger areas by doing several lines which are overlapping to make sure that it looks like one and to avoid killing the fabric (the overlapping lines are interlocking). If the thread is trying to fuck you or it doesn't want to turn out the way you want, don't get mad. It won't bring any benefits, it only will make it an even bigger pain in the ass (believe me).
06. After surviving the whole long embrodering-part you just have to cut the patch out.
07. Cut it out put not to close to the borders. Rather cut it out very raw and then cut off smaller pieces till you're pretty close to the borders. If you're getting to close... well, have fun fixing the fucked-up border. :P
That's it. You only need strong fabrics, interface, a cloth iron, thin needles, enough thread, an embroidery hoop and a shitload of patience (also having no life is very helpful) . :3
P.S.: It's NOT Cradle of Filth.
Update 13th December 2015: Couldn't resist to make a bigger version for the back - took me almost 2 months beginning in late September and finally I could make me sew it on. :D

Nice, need to get myself one of those "hoops" as well. Pretty therapeutic to just sit and work with your hands.
Lizard on
Kinda therapeutic as long as the thread is not trying to get fucked up. XD Get a wooden loop, the fabric doesn't slip as easily as with a palstic one.

I find it so amazing that hardcore metal fans are doing embroidery. Grandmothers around the world would be proud of your needlework. Super impressed!

Yes, ain't that something?
Lizard on
Well, my grandmother was quite interessted in seeing my needlework and the vest. XD Or to quote my mother "Why should I be able to sew?! For that I have a son!".
@ Nater90: Thanks. :D

What a great story!

Looks great!
Corvus Corax on
How long did that take you?
Lizard on
It varies from patch to patch, some designs are easiere and time for embroidering and motivation also are important. But the big patch took some months. XD

Looks great. Time and effort paid-off.

Thank you. :D
