I found a picture of a different tankard, its hard to see but the inside is a mixture of pitch and beeswax to make it completely waterproof and more rigid. They're only suitable for cold drinks.
Yes, Ive had mine for several years and use it at every festival or motorrad treffen. Pitch was used in old takards and 'boots' which are like jugs. They were used in medieval times. Its fine for beer, cider or mead. I wouldnt use strong spirits in it though. Ill try find a better picture of the inside. Its totally sealed. Before sealing with pitch, the tankard is soaked in a bath of pure bees wax.
Thanks. Same principle as the old tankards but these are stronger and is hand sewn with a saddle stitch. It takes a long time compared to making tradional leather tankards but its much stronger. The leather overlaps at the area where its sewn. For the inside I use a mixture of pitch and beeswax to make it a bit more flexible than pitch alone. Pitch on its own can crack when very cold.

Sorry, but can you really drink out of this without putting a glass or anything inside it?

These are absolutely awesome! :o Do you do this for a living, or just a hobby?

Thanks :) It's a hobby but I do the occasional comission. They're not cheap though, due to the amount of time it takes to make.
