.....If anyone else opened this show then it's completely lost to memory! I remember Slayer telling us, as we were lined up outside, that they might cancel! All of us yelled, "No!" I certainly was'nt there to see Laaz Rockit! I ended up talking to Jeff Hanneman for a bit. (we all did, really) I asked him if he would mind if my friend took some photos? The camera was'nt a professional one by any means. Just a rinky dink, point and click. He gave his okay! We had a small problem with security about it but as the whole conversation ensued, Jeff happened to walk by and was kind enough to put the matter to rest. Later on in the evening as Slayer were blaring through their set and getting ready for the last few songs, in between the mayhem I yelled for Jeff Hanneman's attention. He walked over and said, "what's up?" I immediately exclaimed, " let me get your guitar pick at the end of the set!" He commented, "no problem", As they were wailing away amidst all the feedback and fog, true to his word, Jeff walked over and handed me his guitar pick. About ten or more people lunged forward to grab it also. He pulled back, shook his head and then handed me that again. (after all of these years I'm not certain if that's his pick as I had it put away with a bunch of other guitar picks but I'll never let it go!) At the end of the night, Slayer did a meet & greet with the audience and that's how I ended up with an autographed ticket stub. (my old drummer either got his cymbal or drum head signed, I can't recall. This was a looong time ago! Ha! Ha!) Jeff Hanneman R.I.P.!

.....and I completely forgot to say that the last song of that evening was, 'Show No Mercy'! As Jeff Hanneman and Kerry King were trading off on feedback, is when I ended up with Jeff's guitar pick, after request!

....there's another part to this story that should also be told: When we were let inside the club that evening, all of the tables had a flyer advertising Laaz Rockit's next show or upcoming lp. These were folded over into an eye catching, triangular shape. I was on the main floor closest to the stage, talking with various people. My friend that I arrived with, who wanted to take photos of Slayer, was elsewhere out of sight. As I'm wandering around, suddenly and abruptly, some dude storms over towards me, stepping over a chair in the process! "Who's been writing this s@#t!", he demands, shoving a Laaz Rockit flyer in front of my face. "What are you talking about!?", I remarked. At the bottom, in very large words, was hastily written, 'SUCKS!' "Who's been writing this s@#t on all of our flyers!" That's when I noticed all of the tables that had Laaz Rockit flyers, the word, 'SUCKS!' immediately jumped out!. All of it looked as if it were scrawled by the same hand. While I was being interrogated I also saw the culprit. My friend, way in the background of course, waving his hands in front of him and mouthing the words, "No! No!" I glared over at him. Then I looked up at this guy. I'm not a big dude by any means, I'm 5' 4". This guy stands at 6' 5" or 6' 7"! (This guy should be holding a basketball not a bass guitar in a band!) Still staring at me and demanding to know, "who's writing this s@#t!" I yelled out to him, "How should I know!? It was'nt me though!" He continues staring at me for a bit more figuring that I'm going to be intimidated enough to give up an answer. I simply shrugged my shoulders, "What!?" By this point, it's a bit of a scene. He notices this as well before barking his final comment, "They'll evaporate soon!", making his exit and again stepping over a chair for dramatic effect! "Evaporate....what!? What does that even mean!?", I quizzically mumbled to myself. Immediately I walked over to my friend and Thanked him for offering me up as an unwitting sacrifice for his actions! Many expletives were also delivered before Slayer took the stage later on that evening!
