What's the best way to clean a patch?

Im asking this because I just won this 1990 s.o.d. patch on eBay and its really dirty, the border is also a little beat but I don't mind that, I just wanna know what's the best way to clean it? Is water good? And if so, can I use soap/dish soap? Im still kinda new to this, so I wanna know for future reference. Thanks (photo from eBay auction)

Which patch did you do that on? Just curious to see the end result.

Put the patch into a bowl add some baking soda or Oxi Action cleaner and boiling water

I think Bayerpirat has a good idea. Seltzer water might help too, otherwise if you just use plain water I think you'll just spread the dirt deeper into the patch.

Try oxiclean and a very soft toothbrush. Scrub GENTLY in small circles, rinsing often. The dirt should slowly come off. If you see any damage to the patch, stop what you're doing immediately!!
