Bah, my pants had a hole like that, I fixed it easily. Just take big pieces of fabric (something stretchy like t-shirt fabric or sweatpants fabric) and sew over the hole.

I was repairing my pants at a constant, and the cloth would keep ripping. But, I guess I could take another try at it

When the repairs rip you just patch over the repairs again.

If you really love this pants, you could make a "pants transplant", get another pant and cut the parts you need to repair from your crusty pant, and sew to it, but that's only if your are ready to sacrifice a new pant to kee this one "alive".
