I'm from Minnesota, I love Intestine Baalism, one of my favorite bands of all time, Gates of Ishtar, Dissection, Diabolical Masquerade, Gris, Bolzer, Mgła, Agalloch and Judas Priest. Definitely love all forms of metal but I was thinking of the top bands i've been listening to consistently over the years. But I love early 80s to mid 2000s metal a lot, whether its thrash metal, heavy metal, power metal, speed metal, doom metal or even death metal and black metal. Whether style it is, i am gonna explore it. Lately i've been looking for really obscure early death metal from the early 80s, bands that developed alongside Mantas, or Sarcofago, or wherever they are in the world. I'm trying to paint a picture of the development of metal over the course that period before jump into the 70s metal scene so I can expand that picture.
I've been collecting shirts and other types of merch for about 15 years. I definitely have a lot of merch but I still havent found the ones I want for bands that I truly love.
I go to shows, haven't been to a festival in many years, but I want to attend one within the next year. Mostly havent been to showd as much as I'd like because I moved further away from where they happen and the Minnesota metal scene is great, but the bands I want to see never come here or are on the other side of town.
But I've been to Maryland Deathfest once, back in 2015 and that was an eye opening experience, seeing Razor headline was nuts. They play hard and fast with unrelenting intensity, then I saw Agoraphobic Nosebleed and I thought i was gonna die. The whole place erupted when they started playing. People stormed the stage and jumping on top of the crowd while everyone around you was moshing so that was absolutely insane experience that I want to relive.
Went to Metal Threat before it became a divisive metal festival where I saw Dead Congregation, Ruins of Beverast and the Chasm. Even though The Chasm had a member quit mid tour and they weren't able to play the set they wanted to play, I did see how the vocalist was a powerful frontman with the ability to stir up a crowd. And it actually got people moving, i was impressed. He knew people were disappointed but from his perspective that shouldn't matter because the crowd wanted to see them, so they shouldn't waste their time by not enjoying it. That was a moment that showed the public speaking skill that is needed by a vocalist.
