I think that in this case "Alien" is just referring to someone from a place/culture you aren't familiar with, in reference to the fact that they are all Maori. Weaponry referring to the traditional Maori weapons within their culture and also a double meaning that their weapons are their instruments. I think their name is perfect, if you don't think of alien as "Little Green Men."
