Gibson V 90 bought from R. Rutten. He recorded with this guitar both demo's and the first 3 albums of The Gathering as well played all shows 'till 1993...a small piece of Dutch metal history.
there are also versions with a slanted neck pick-up...btw V 90 means that the body is 10% smaller as standard V body... nice light and slim V with a fast neck !!!
Cool. Didn't notice that. I really like flyin V guitars bu I will never buy one unless I start seriously playing gigs. Since for home use it's to dificult to play sitting down for example.
Yeah V's are really easy to play high up the neck. At least the view I played on. But sitting down on something else then a barstool is very difficult with a V. I play most of the time sitting in the middle of my bed watching series.
yes, playing a V in the middle of you bed is extremely uncomfortable hahaha... i play a lot sitting; you can stick a V nice and easy on one of your knees....but i don't use this one much, it's more a collectors piece; it would be very unpleasant if i dropped this one !!!
Yeah I understand. If I had it and dropped it I would be devistated. Something that happens when I discover a scratch on my ''normal'' guitars to be honest. But on this collecters item would be even worse. May I ask how you bought the guitar from him? It's something special alright. Almost something you should win a contest for or something. Everyone would want that guitar so I should expext some hell of an auction.
Well, that's quite a story. It was sold on ebay.nl with no info on it's background at all.... i bought it because i was looking for this particular model; so i just found out it was René selling it after i won the auction !!! Then we made an appointment that i could pick-up the guitar in Maurik, where they were recording the album Home: i could stay all day and have the experience of a The Gathering album taking shape !!! But disaster struck: his father died !!! Our appointment got postponed... then his grandfather died !!!! After 3 or 4 months i finally picked up the guitar. They were polite, but there was a strange mood.... now i know that Anneke left the band at that time !!! Wished i met them in better times !!!!
That's a story indeed. So it was a surprise. That's cool. Bad thing his father and grandfather died. He must have thought, everytime I make an appointment a family member dies. He was probably scared as hell the last time. Cool story. One day I hope to buy this guitar on eBay and when I ring the bell of the house Dave Murray opens. Would be awesome. Or Angus Young. He lives here so that could be possible.
yes, i was really the bird of ill omen.... anyway, i also bought a guitar of Martjo Brongers of Vortex and almost ( just to late) one of Bart van Rixel of Hammerhawk and Defender fame... so, you never know what you might run into... wouldn't mind buying a SG of Angus !!!!
thanx man... yes, it's nice to possess such an important piece of Dutch metal history... pioneers and trailblazers for bands such as Within Temptation, Lacuna Coil etc etc
Absolutely, give me "Nightime Birds", "Mandylion", or "How to Measure a Planet?" over any other so called female - fronted metal bands. Anneke has the most etherial voice i've heard in the last 20 years. And everytime i saw them live with Anneke, it was an awesome experience!!!
yes, too bad they parted ways... but i like her solo-work as well. The band she was playing with under the name Agua de Annique was not that great, but with the new band it's really good !!!!
thanx man... yeah, its really special to have such a piece of Dutch metal history in your possession.... looking at old live footage or clips like http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cB_sKrYnt4I seeing that guitar being used and then to be able to grab it out of its case and thrash out a few riffs yourself......
