But tbh thinking and planning the layout is much more complicated than sewing itself.
Especially I get freaking annoyed by those fucking thoughts: "Oh, I have 200 patches and can finally sew them on, oh, let's look at the layout. Wait, but exactly here between these two patches I don't have anything, so I need to buy the new, 201st patch!", hahahahaha.

I don't think that planning is actually that annoying. It is rather meditating and at the same time brain storming process. :)
I sew the vest only when I have enough inspiration and free time. I have got a pretty original idea (well, not 100% original, it came into my mind first back in Feb 2018 when I saw your wife's vest :-P), and I hope hope it will come out I get 60 years old. :D
I guess ca. 30% are completed so far, but I have finally got an understanding on how it will look like in general.

Yes please! Well, planning is fun in any case, you are always very happy about good results and you can deepen in it very much. Sometimes there are places where you break your head for days, then it will be annoying. I then always hang the vest at the wall opposite the sofa and stare at it. Eventually comes the crucial thought... ;)
