IMO they allready have.
A Watain shirt today is synonymous to what a Dimmu Borgir or Cradle of Filth shirt was in the early 00's/late 90's.
I'd say their semi-underground status is way past gone.

The difference is they still put out solid releases unlike dimmu and cradle,....plus I don't see why a band has to lose credibility for gaining a broader audience.....even though I do prefer the old days of seeing them in a smaller more intimate venue with the die hard fan base .....

I didn't say they had lost any credibility. It's the fan base that bugs me, people who are not devoted to black metal or anything it stands for listen to Watain "only for the music..." because nowadays THEY are the big name of black metal with so much listeners. Ironic as Watain is the one being the most serious about their subjects etc.

so.. if a solid release is still made who cares right?
i think dimmu still makes some decent stuff, although i do like their old work better in comparison to their new cd.
it's a matter of taste in the end...
