What kind of glue did you use? I glue all my patches before seeing them on, and I've never had this happen. Also did you try washing/wetting the patch?

I used UHU textile glue. Was easy to use and held it on firm but seeped right through the weave.

I've used glue on quite a few patches and it hasn't done that, must be that one brand.

Selleys interior adhesive, and another I can't remember the name of.
