Original cover art for Mayhem's debut and eponymous album, as drawn by the hands of the late Per Yngve "Dead" Ohlin, with some additions and slight alterations (perhaps made recently by the other band maters?). I much prefer this work to the final cover art... something so genuinely eerie about his artwork. Picked this up in February 2017 at Gramercy, where they played the album in its entirety. Also I take full credit for the botch job I did on removing the sleeves.
Note: my father picked up the same shirt in a larger size and his had artwork on the back (band logo I believe) whereas mine does not have anything printed.
Very cool, but tbh I prefer the original artwork as the album cover. This is more like a cool drawing that would appear on a inside sleeve than the cover to me.
Looks kinda nice in the end but I don't get why they ruined the original Dead's drawing with that logo in middle.
HHR is selling a boot with the original drawing remaining untouched, though it's missing the gravestones in the bottom. No idea if they were part of the drawing or an add-on.
Honestly, from a quick glance at Dead's artwork online, it appears that his original drawing did not have the gravestones along the bottom, nor did it have that Mayhem logo etched onto the cathedral's wall. Those must have been additions made by the band members more recently, for the design of this shirt. So it looks like this exact design is more of a hybrid of creative design. I dig that.
The gravestones are from another one of Dead's drawings. And the backstory of the actual cover was that Euro & a few others had plans to blow up the cathedral shown on the pic on the release date of the album.

Fuck that's epic! They need to get back here for this tour so I can get this.
