I used to collect records (no, not adding my whole collection here), not so much into shirts or other collectibles, but you can't avoid that over a 30+ yrs period.
Collectible is a relative term, it's again about taste and this is always a debatable topic.
And it also comes to age, financial capabilities and access to items, as well as what history stands behind the item or how it got into the collection. So Therefore these are just things, not more.
You also can't keep just everything, a lot of stuff i just gave to friends or dumped by a recent relocation. It is the memories that count in the end.
Same goes with signed records. It's nice to have records signed, for sure, but for me, not every record has to be signed by an artist, makes the signed ones a bit more special and a record that is already signed when purchased is not special at all, since it was not signed by meeting the musician personally.
Records I find special are f.e. promos (they're different than the final release and often have bios and other things of interest with them), certain Demos from certain bands, Live Bootlegs can be very interesting as well, especially if there are not many recordings known from this band or the quality is very good (nothing special anymore nowadays), well done Counterfeits of old releases, releases from uncommon countries, records from mostly unknown/underrated bands, ...., just stuff beside the regular box.
Most collectable items at all?
Memories and friends over the years. That's it what matters.
F.e. hanging out with Metal Church, Vicious Rumors, Savatage, OverKill, Blind Guardian, Jag Panzer, Nevermore, getting drunk with Damien Black from Stormtrooper, Breakfast with Demon, ..... So many stories.
Metal is a way of life and not a pubertal phase!
Adding things in no particular order whenever I feel like adding something.
Some records I add might not be rare or an ultra collectors items, but the record itself might be underrepresented in the scene based on its musical quality and therefore a hidden gem.
3 shirts I'm missing atm (sure they are somewhere in a box):
- Bathory - Blood on Ice LS
- Memento Mori - Rhymes of Lunacy TS
- Metalhead - same TS
