This shirt came from one box of shirts that a friend of mine gave to me to sell on commission. Him and another mutual friend of ours went to a number of concerts together over the years and collected t shirts. They are able to provide history and information about concerts I am too young to have experienced.
These guys went to the 1990 Judas Priest Painkiller Megadeth Rust in Peace World Tour together and this is one of eight shirts purchased at the tour. The ones I obtained in the box, among others, are an Official 1990 Judas Priest Painkiller Tour shirt and two of what these guys called "bootlegs" that were sold before or after the concert, outside the venues by unofficial vendors. These are extremely rare due to much smaller production run, a private seller wouldn't do all 40 or so dates on a tour and might just hit three or four or however long it would take to sell X amount of shirts. One was already purchased by an up and coming fashion designer who you will see in NY for fashion week 2015.
The particular "fake" or counterfeited look is in style for us as a culture because its somewhat obvious. These days bootleg t shirts can be awfully convincing. Today's fakes take really fantastic photos and use really fantastic printing devices to make EXACT looking copies. Only some people have the eyes to spot a true vintage t shirt.
This is a different kind of bootleg. Its what I call Authentic Vintage Bootleg. The images used are hand drawn. There is less detail and sophistication in the graphics used. Fewer colors of ink were used in the screen compared to official tour t shirts. This was someone's art, but it was also their living.
This shirt is in excellent condition. There are two small stains on the back of the shirt that look like they could almost be paint, It is located near the alien in the tube. I am not washing or drying the shirt, it comes as is and is currently folded neatly and protected by several layers. You have the provenance of the shirt and this description and any necessary paperwork could be filed if you need to insure the shirt as this is the type of collectors item that will continually rise in value due to its scarcity. I can obtain photos as necessary for further proof of its history. Imagine this shirt coming up Antique Roadshow in another 50-60 years. It truly is a treasure.
