CoF gets so much flack from metalheads all the time due to reasons I think are pointless. Most notably being their commercial success with black metal and their application of symphonic gothic pomp to a music they are trying to be deathly evil with. I even consciously avoided them for many years due to the unspoken embargo on their music by 'legitimate' black metal community. That was totally stupid. They are a great band. they have amazing music, they have some crap music, and they still are making some good things to this day and carrying on at the very forefront of the halloweenish gothic culture, a culture long since washed away. They are like any respectable successful metal band, and if some people would get over their immediate repulsion to gothic art, maybe they may find some excellent metal music.
