The image is Theodor Kittelsen's painting "Pesta på Fjellet", from the late 1800's, maybe that is not known amongst the hipster Taake fans of today...
Pesta, a Norwegian folkloric personification of the Plague, was artwork for the 1995 demo because Manndaudsvinter and Eismalsott (aa lide i stillhet) are written about Svartedauden (The Black Death)
It's incredibly evocative for sure, as it led me to research more of Theodor Kittelsen's work and find out that Burzum and Carpathian Forest have also used his paintings for artwork in their early days. Regarding Taake patches I'm currently hunting down the "revised" patch of the classic shield emblem, the one that has the skull in the crown... seems to only be sold at their gigs haha.
That's the one! I guess I either didn't see it when it was sold or wasn't working on my jacket at the time... either way, I know a few people in Bergen connected to Ørjan who are also looking to buy this patch from him directly, he has loads in personal stock to sell at gigs but hasn't put any more up at Svartekunst Produksjoner, bloody Hell so much work for one patch! We'll see what happens...
