I know I'm not up to the standards of some of the greats on here, but I'm just starting out and did a bit more than just lopping off the sleeves; see underneath. Granted, it's not the prettiest thing in the world compared to people with more skill/experience, but to insult the whole term? That was not a fair critique by any standard.
Good point - as you can see, cut the sleeves/neck to start. Then, altered the sides and arm cut to make it fit better across my shoulders (I have quite pointy shoulder blades). Took bloody forever with my non-professional manskills! That's why it's a bit more DIY than just my other cutoffs - beforehand, it looked too much like a surcoat/tabard. Sounds a bit pedantic and a lot of effort, but I'm sure you'll appreciate the difference cut across a back can make, especially if you're wearing it under a jacket!
