Wicked collection mate!

Could you pick your favourite album?

5
Der Todesking's picture

Thank you! No its impossible to track down one favourite, but the albums between A Blaze... & Panzerfaust (the middle line in the pic) are my faves. What about you?

Nater90's picture

Most welcome.

Very true, Panzerfaust and Soulside Journey are right up there.

Morbid_Welshman's picture

I'd go with Panzerfaust as my favourite :)

Same here. But it's really hard. Under a Funeral Moon is almost right up.

Der Todesking's picture

And Transilvanian Hunger as well...

Into Glory Ride's picture

You have to draw the line somehere, King :P

Der Todesking's picture

Ha, thats right! In this band's case its almost impossible!

Into Glory Ride's picture

You got a point. ;)

Into Glory Ride's picture

By the way i am also a huge fan of their Death Metal era, not only Soulside Journey but also their Demo Material. In Fact 2 of my alltime Favourites of Darkthrone are Cromlech and Snowfall!

Der Todesking's picture

Same here, especially Soulside Journey! Very very good!

Into Glory Ride's picture

Listening to it at the moment we're typing!
It is not only that this is an ok Darkthrone album that contains Death Metal, but it's a fucking solid Death Metal album, totally able to compete with the big names like Autopsy, Master, Massacre, etc.

Nine Turning Mirrors's picture

Totally love Fenriz' drumming on Soulside Journey. Almost like a 40 minute drum solo. Amazing!
And Cromlech is definitely one of the greatest Darkthrone songs, I agree.

Thank You! Yes , exactly, i tell everyone the drumming style on this album is just phenomenal. I got alot of love for drummerst that use so many fills. And i love chimes and crashes!

Der Todesking's picture

Agreed.

Amazing collection for the greatest band on the planet!
Btw: My favourites are FOAD and Circle The Wagons.

5
Into Glory Ride's picture

Wow, that's different and might even be "blasphemic" in some people's eyes (which is not of any importance of course).
Anyway i also love their current period with Circle the Waggons being my favourite.

Nine Turning Mirrors's picture

Haha, yeah, I couldn't care less what people think about my favourite Darkthrone albums... But to clear this up: I also love the "original" Dakthrone era, my favourite album of that time is Under A Funeral Moon. But the "new" era of Darkthrone is the exact great mixture of Black Metal, Heavy Metal and Punk, that makes it stand out. There is no other band I know, that sounds like this.

Into Glory Ride's picture

I hope You know how it was meant. ;)
Fully agree, especially Songs like Those Treasures Will Never Befall You have a completely stand-alone approach and feeling to it, really reminding of Bands like thrashier Manilla Road sometimes (which Fenriz likes very much, that's known)

Nine Turning Mirrors's picture

Yes, I know how you meant it :)
Indeed, it has the same "Kautzigkeit" (I don't know how to say it in english, it's even hard to describe in german) as Manilla Road. And if you listen to Fenriz radio, you get to know a lot more about his influences, and you can hear all that in the complete evolution of Darkthrone.
Can't wait for their new album by the way. I heard Fenriz was into a lot of Candlemass-y stuff since The Underground Resistance came out. Guess, we'll hear even more traditional Heavy Metal on the new one!

5
Into Glory Ride's picture

Haha, i am still searching for a translation of Kauzigkeit aswell, always have. Most of the time i use "odd" or "strange" , but it is certainly quite untranslatable, the German language is too beautiful for that i guess.
I always wanted to listen to that, might actually do lateron.
That sounds amazing, i really loved TUR, especially the unbelievably kauzig "Valkyrie". A song for Centuries! Is it already known when it will come out?

Nine Turning Mirrors's picture

I think "odd" and "strange" are too negatively connoted, to use them for Kautzigkeit, but as I said, I don't know any other word aswell, haha.
You should definitely listen to some of his episodes, great music combined with even better commentary!
All I know is, that it will be out this year, and as far is I've heard the recording is finished aswell.

5
Into Glory Ride's picture

Correct, i actually always try to specify it by saying "odd in a good way" or something similar haha. Another term would be excentric perhaps. Well, anyway, haha
This year, Killer! Thanks for the recommendation!

Der Todesking's picture

Thank you!

Nater90's picture
