Obituary Cause Of Death Circle Patches blue and black border

Two versions of this patch. Does anyone know if the black border is a reissue? The blue border has a more greyish blue in the graphic and it also has the made in England stamp on the back. The black border also feels a bit more flimsy.

Yes, black border is a reissue from the early 00's I believe.

Wait.....Huh? I think I miss something here. What is the point of the "(C) 1990 Blue Grape Merchandising" if 10 years later a repress is made with that same line? If this is the case there must be a whole bunch of other patches for which the same happened right?
Curious to hear more about it.

Agreed but for sure yes. Happened with the cannibal corpse alot. When you come pick up the maiden at my place i can show you the difference between a 00s repress and a true 90s one. They do this with alot. Basically any of the tighter bordered ones are reprints, and there are plenty. doesnt make em less valuable and i dont care but yeah its a shitty thing to do that with that copyright

Copyright date doesn't necessarily relate to production date, it can relate to the date the design was copyrighted.

Some patches have several versions released over a number of years but they all have the same copyright date, a classic example is the Iron Maiden, Somewhere In Time patch - there are examples with different sizes and different backing (some with the 'Made In England' stamp, which I do not think was seen as early as 1986), which leads me to believe they were in production at various times for a few years following the album's release, but all are copyrighted 1986.

Thank you very much for this explanation. Maybe I was a bit naive on this matter. I really though the copyright date was also the production date. So my vintage vest is probably not as vintage as I thought it was 😅. Anyway, that doesn't matter because I wear the vests/jackets for passion, not for fashion 🤘😄🤘

So the difference is in the "border tightness" as Samael6666 said? Or are there also different markers of re-release?

Many differences such as backing colour. Size, sometimes yes or no copyright as with wasp night in texas, weaving, colors such as the obituary. But the most clear to identify is the border. Theres about 5 categories. The 70s style. Early 80s style such as the to the hills you have. Late 80s such as origibal live after death. early 90s such as this obituary and late 90s/early 00s such as the reprints. And then of course numerous types from after 2005 but thats another story

As a note, regional difference exist too between first prints. Such as the obituary i have in white backing and this is black. Both are same print but just from different factories
