HELLHAMMERED's picture

Altars of Madness. Unique riffs in every song, everything is distinct and doesn’t blend into other songs & the tones are all great too.

Personal favourite though is the Galvanizer EP, Horrid Tales of Death

DeathFuckinMetal's picture

I'd say Dismember Like An Everflowing Stream, from start to finish every song just slays!

oldmate's picture

hard question..

For American death for me its cannibal corpse the bleeding
for Euro death for me I would say Carcass - swansong

DeathFuckinMetal's picture

I'm surprised you'd pick swansong, i didn't think many people liked that album.

oldmate's picture

yea I know. Lots of people dont like it at all. for me there is something to it.. I think its an amazing album.

Nater90's picture

Swansong is a masterpiece!

oldmate's picture

sick!!! I would never have guessed you like it!!

Nater90's picture

Shitting me right? Haha. It's the album that got me into Carcass.

slayerslayer's picture

britain isnt europe dude ;)

Corvus Corax's picture

What continent is it part of? ;)

Der Todesking's picture

He’s kidding, it’s Europe ofc!

Corvus Corax's picture

Yeah, I was being a turd. Ha ha.

kingdomofhannover's picture

For Euro death it’s Unleashed - Where No Life Dwells and Gorefest‘s False.
For American death it’s Immolation - Dawn Of Possession i think.
In my opinion of course.

Nater90's picture

Hard question. I love so many... I could write a book.

Joel's picture

Left Hand Path. Legendary album!

sandmanforce's picture

Obituary-Cause of death

19Philthy16's picture

I guess it's, as always, just a matter of opinion, but I'd recommend Hail of Bullets "Of Frost and war..."

Der Todesking's picture

Death - Leprosy, Morbid Angel - Altars, Entombed - Left Hand Path are a few...

Der Todesking's picture

Autopsy’s first 2 albums too!

EQA's picture

In Flames - Jester Race
Gates Of Ishtar - Dawn Of Flames
Night In Gales - Thunderbeast

Some records that were crafted in the studio to litteraly be perfect records.

Grimlord's picture

besides the obvious albums on major labels I'd say:

Burial - Relinquished Souls
Blackthorn - The Rotten Ways Of Human Misery
Rise - Shadow of Ruins

Kvltdad's picture

My personal favorite is Cryptopsy's None So Vile.

madbutcher's picture

Probably Entombed - Left hand path and Morbid angel - Altar of Madness

nameless_rites's picture

Altars of Madness

Cryptopsy- None So Vile

Demilich- Nespithe

Suffocation- Pierced From Within

Lykathea Aflame- Elvenefris

NocturnalOccultist's picture

Cancer - Death Shall Rise

cycojoe's picture

Ripping Corpse - Dreaming With The Dead

Satanic Warlord's picture

Deicide - Deicide

Lyx's picture

Europe: Left Hand Path
USA: Eaten Back To Life

char broiled jimmy's picture

Am I retarded for suggesting The lVth Crusade? And not that it's a personal favorite but I'm surprised no one has mentioned Here in After. .

Nater90's picture

It's each to their own, Nobody is wrong.

If someone says Death Metal and you think those albums, That's a good thing. For me one of many would be Cannibal Corpse - Vile because their track Bloodlands got me into Cannibal Corpse / Death Metal in general.

char broiled jimmy's picture

Dude I think vile is by far the best cannibal record and probably one of my favorite records in general.

nameless_rites's picture

Always preferred ...For Victory, but The 4th Crusade has subtlety, something rare in death metal. I wouldn't say it perfectly sums up death metal as a whole but it's certainly an interesting side of the genre that I wish more bands would explore.

Nater90's picture

Defiantly right up there for me!

DeathFuckinMetal's picture

Bloodlands is an awesome track!

Nater90's picture

Hell yeah. I want to hear it live.

Der Todesking's picture

Pestilence “Consuming Impulse”

mad_submarine's picture

Personal favourite!! Although a lot of people don't really consider it a death metal album technically

diegoballar's picture

Left Hand Path
Like An Everflowing Stream

viohead's picture

Too hard to pick one. Sadistic intent's resurrection is gold, but so is severed survival or scream bloody gore for example. The abhorrence ep is one of my favorites too.

MelFromHell's picture

I had to think really hard about this one but at the end I always come back to Athiest - Unquestionable Presence or Eternal Suffering - Drowning in Tragedy. Both are perfection imo and especially the latter has a lot of personal bearing to me

Nater90's picture

Unquestionable Presence is a masterpiece. Would be amazing if Atheist did a tour playing it in full.

I think a lot will agree on albums, But personal feelings always make it that much more special.

Sambradley2's picture

Nile - Annihilation of the wicked

LongLiveTheEvil's picture

Possessed-Seven churches or Necrophagia-season of the dead

IntoTheVoid's picture

Death - Pull The Plug / Morgoth - Isolation

nuclearthrasher666's picture

Apart from the obvious classics I would say Repugnant's "Epitome of Darkness". This album is EVERYTHING a death metal record should be.

Bolzenwerfer's picture

Besides the classics most uf us agree on, I'd like to throw in
Benediction - Transcend the Rubicon
and
The Crown - Death Race King

Hufsa's picture

Crucifixion ‎– Paths Less Taken
Extremely underrated death metal perfection.

Vectrex's picture

Temple Nightside - The Hecatomb

Literally sounds like a Necromancer is screaming in a crypt while the Dead and Skeletons rise up.

miggy_666's picture

Obituary - Cause of Death belongs in anybody's top ten DM albums.

vkok's picture

Dawn - Slaughtersun
At the Gates - Slaughter of the Soul
Behemoth - Satanica

mad_submarine's picture

I had forgotten about that At the Gates album, love it actually, thanks for the reminder lol

vkok's picture

its 23 year old album. Its been a while. released sometime at the end of 1995. Although I sometimes ask people if they like the new At the Gates album slaughter of the soul...and get a very funny look back :)

meaningless's picture

just one is hard, since there are many different Death-styles out there... :)
but i would say:
Six Feet Under - The Haunted & Dismember - Like an ever flowing stream & Altar - Provoke

mad_submarine's picture

Bolt Thrower - The IV Crusade
Asphyx - The Rack
And although I've always been more on the doom/death side, Left Hand Path has always been a personal favourite.

hozertrucker79's picture

Deicide Lunatic of God's Creation

Master_Of_Puppers's picture

Cannabis Corpse - Tube of the Resinated

it's weed-themed, the song names are puns of other death metal song titles, but the songs themselves are original, and really great death metal in general. Highly (pun intended) recommend these guys, they deserve so much more exposure

Piss's picture

Incantation - Mortal Throne of Nazarene

imconfuzed's picture

Ulcerate's Everything Is Fire and The Destroyers of All. I can easily play these albums from beginning to end every time.

Tyler Langford's picture

God Macabre - The Winterlong
At The Gates - The Red In The Sky Is Ours

judascrust's picture

Morbid Angel "Blessed are the Sick" is forever going to be my favorite death metal album, everything from the songs, the production, the ambient/instrumental pieces, to the album art and overall package layout is perfection.

Close second for me is Broken Hope "Swamped in Gore".... Doesn't have the atmosphere of Morbid Angel but it's perfect to me as far as being some of the nastiest sounding old school death with also some of the most putrid, toilet gurgling vocals ever performed on a dm record (I almost said laid to tape but then remembered that album was recorded digitally :)

eviscerated records's picture

mmm..
Dismember - Like an everflowing stream.

Deathcore.Is.Not.Metal.'s picture
