This might be a fun thread and give people new music to check out or at least have a laugh...
Post the weirdest metal covers you know of! The stranger the subject material, the better. Things along the lines of Coroner's "I Want You (She's So Heavy), Sodom's "Bird is the Word" or Blind Guardian's inexplicable Beach Boys covers. Let's see what bizarre finds you Tshirt Slayers can unearth.
I'll start with a Desperado, one of Dee Sninder's side projects doing a Tom Waits cover.

My Sharona by Destruction, originally by the Knack
In the Mood, also Destruction, originally by Glenn Miller
Lowrider by Exodus
Sound of Silence by Disturbed, originally Simon and Garfunkel
Land of Confusion by Disturbed, originally by Genesis

I did not know that Lowrider cover existed, that's what I'm talkin about!

Ares Kingdom - Major Tom (Originally by Peter Schilling, a German Neue Deutsche Welle artist)
and the whole album „James Rivera's Metal Wave - New wave gone metal“ 😂
bad_american1992 on
Will give that album a thorough investigation! Did not know of the Peter Schilling song "Major Tom", the David Bowie song was the first thing that came to mind.
Into Glory Ride on
Holy fuck, I didn't know Ares Kingdom covered that.
Now we need an Arghoslent cover of Der goldene Reiter
Edit: Just realized it was done by Vulpecula and didn't connect the obvious dots. That cover is totally killer actually!
oldcoffinspirit on
You are right! It was Vulpecula.

Fear factory- School by Nirvana not that weird but it's kinda funny how they made that thing heavy
Kinda like how Hatebreed added a bit of metal to a bad brains song as well
Agrunge hippie ... on
I guess we can add coal chamber's cover of shock the monkey as well
MortalCoil138 on
Actually that reminds me, Fear Factory did a cover of Cars by Gary Numan I believe
Agrunge hippie ... on
Yeah they did im listening to both the numanoid mix and the original serj from system also joined to sing on ozzfest i think or some other tour they did

Something in the Way (Nirvana) - 1914

Six Feet Under covered the Back in Black album in full, so there's that.

SFU have an entire back catalogue of covers, some of which I actually like

The existance of Graveyard Classics II will never ever make sense to me. It's so bad I find myself returning to it on occasion
MortalCoil138 on
Graveyard Classics II is easily the worst of the lot, I do enjoy the original versions more, but sometimes I enjoy listening to them.
Agrunge hippie ... on
That's crazy although Chris probably butchered it lol still haven't forgiven him for the Dead Kennedys horrendous cover
Into Glory Ride on
For some reason I also always really liked the cover Iron Savior did of "Crazy" by Seal
pan_in_ithyphal... on
Probably cause Seal is awesome, especially early 90s Seal!

definately weird!
MortalCoil138 on
Completely forgot that Megadeth did a cover of Nancy Sinatra, These Boots, as well as Howlin' Wolf's I Ain't Superstitious, not "weird" per se, but it is different for a thrash metal band to cover jazz/blues standards. To add to jazz/blues standards would be Motorhead's cover of Louis Louis
MortalCoil138 on
Eve of Destruction by Warfare, originally Barry McGuire

Arthur Brown btw, deep in his 80s, still lights himself on fire.

Weird and COOL metal cover from my fav album. Symphonic black group Graveworm covers Pet Shop Boys 'Its a Sin'. really annoyed that decades later Ghost would get all the cred for covering the same song... Graveworm did it first!!
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mTnozZLeHvQ
Also.... down to the real cult. There is revolutionary goth/metal band Monumentum covering new-Romantic synthwave group Visage and turning their Blitz club song to a cathoic dirge. You can argue this album is not exactly a metal album but Monumentum were invaluable to the formation of the black metal genre both in inspiration and in promotion.

They had a slew of goofy covers, "Lookin Out My Backdoor" by CCR and "Shipping Up To Boston" by Dropkick Murphys to name a few others

Pretty sure they also did a cover of Bed of Nails by Phallus Cooper

Cars by Gary Numan - done by Fear Factory, always thought it was quite weird they covered it, but again sounded nothing like FF Normal style! Pretty rockin though haha!
