So as a 21-year-old Finn, I'd like to know what you guys used to listen in your youth/childhood! As a Finnish child/teen I used to listen a lot of music from my own country but also a lot of thrash-, speed-, and death metal from other countries.
My most listened bands as a kid/teen:
- Iron Maiden, Megadeth, D.R.I, Stone, Malevolent Creation, Nocturnus, Death, Anthrax, Sodom, Destruction, Municipal Waste, Exodus, Massacre, S.O.D, Havok, Annihilator, Gorguts, Demolition Hammer, Necropsy, Abhorrence, Morbid Saint, Deicide, Vio-Lence, Exumer etc.

I used o listen to a lot of Classical music and Music from the 50's-60's (my parents stuff,) all of which was on the radio. I got into the Alternative Rock station around 1997 at age 14 and I was HOOKED for years, every day was something new to me (and amazing;) and when I found out I could record tapes off the radio I was smitten. So, I grew up with Rage Against the Machine, No Doubt, The Offspring, Greenday, Metallica, Megadeth, Alice in Chains, Smashing Pumpkin, Tool, Nine Inch Nails, Marilyn Manson and a whole lot more; granted my cousin was already playing Smashing Pumpkins and Marylin Manson, but I really took a shine to it a few years later. I think in 1997/98 X-mas I got my first CD player and I got a gift card from a family-friend to Tower Records where I bought my first CD: Smashing Pumpkins Melancholy and the Infinite Sadness.
I think I got into the music that wasn't being played on the Radio around 2001-2004. Metallicas' Garage Inc opened up a whole new world for me, as well as my introduction to Black Metal via a friend with Dimmu Borgirs' Enthrone Darkness Triumphant.

I mostly listen to the same bands, although my taste became progressively heavier as I discovered more Metal Sub-genres. First bands I really got into were Sabbath, Maiden, AC/DC, Metallica, Red Hot Chilli Peppers, then I remember buying Reign in Blood, Among the Living and Rust in Peace at the same time, and was instantly hooked.

When I was kid most of the stuff I listened to was a weird pop mixed with all my dad's music so I grew up on Stevie Wonder, Aersomith, J. Geils., and then....on the other hand Avril Lavigne.
Didn't start on metal until I was 15, found Nightwish and went from there.

I remember going on a Russian mp3 site at school because YouTube was blocked and that’s how I got introduced to Magrudergrind. Their self titled album came up and I was like “that sounds interesting” so I clicked play on Assimilated Pollutants and was not disappointed. Listened to the whole thing while typing a school paper

Dropkick Murphys, AC/DC, Nightwish, Rammstein, and some Ska lol. Mercifully skipped the 'emo' phase and went straight from rock radio into thrash and death.
