So I'm not an expert on shirts and I'd wait for confirmation from someone that has a little more experience with vintage Met Shirts, but that doesn't look right to me.
In fact, the shirt Doc linked looks exactly like the one in your picture, down to the placement of every single striking distressmark.
I have uploaded a shoddy side-by-side to imgur: https://imgur.com/a/KklBCpU
The legit vintage copies on this site have no artificial distress either, so the chances that this identical placement is to be found in both vintage & contemporary shirts is slim to nonexistant aswell.
Possibly. I only glanced at these and saw a copyright.
I'm sure a Met collector has the best insight on this - but now that I've noticed it, I'd agree with you that that FOTL tag doesn't look 1987 at all lol.
the tag on the shirt I found didn't seem vintage either. Proliferated paper tear-away but I didn't recognize the brand. I don't think that sort of tag would have lasted that long if they were even around in the 80s/90s
There is no way to tell. I see a lot of stuff sold on ebay where they say its vintage but sometimes its almost impossible to tell if its fake or not. There were few cases where i was able to tell that they are fake. There was on Borgir shirt sold on ebay where the watermark was slightly off from the original shirt. I had to actually compare against my photo with the ebay one. Otherwise the shirt looked almost identical. Maybe the owner doesnt even know he's got a fake one.
In some cases, maybe only an FBI lab would be able to tell you when the shirt was printed. And even thats is a big maybe.
Wow with the evidence you guys dug up, I think it might really be a fake. No trademark, artificial distressing patterns.... I am really glad that I didn't impulsively buy it (even though I do think it still looks cool)

That "1987" version is also a reprint/bootleg. It has the modern Fruit of the Loom tag.
