It’s pull the plug. They think they can do everything bigger then better than every other distro with relatively declining results over time. Don’t get me wrong they’ve made some amazing patches and I own quite a collection, but as of late it’s definitely declined due to sheer quantity to try to live up to their hype.
It does seem like they're becoming the Wal-Mart of the patch market.
I stick to smaller distros because I hate gimmicky shaped patches and I feel like they overcharge for their product.
$10+ for small patches that aren't even rare? Get the fuck outta here.
I remember when they first started and it was exclusively death metal and very small drops of just patches.
I actually like some of pull the plugs stuff, they made some patches with designs that probably wouldn’t be made otherwise by razamatazz or other distros/bootleggers.
I don’t really mind the drop size but some people hoard them and expect to trade PTP patches for vintage patches which seems kind of crazy to me lol
I guess it depends, personally I just don’t feel like there’s a “rare” PTP patch that I would trade a vintage rare patch for or pay a vintage patch price for since those are still so new but there are resellers out there that price them like they are vintage, just my opinion
2018-2019 ptpp was gold, then it slowly became rotten with more random patches and then the scalpers realized that they could make bank from his older patches so now ppl buy plenty of patches just to trade, ptpp used to cancel the bigger orders if it was obv that it was dor scalping/reselling purposes but not anymore unfortunately :(
Also i remember when he was super clear about "Limited to 50 get it now or cry later" now he remakes patches and makes them squares which was something he promised it would never happen.
I agree the scalpers really ruin it, and the people that just hoard the “wanted” ones to trade only are really annoying too, especially since they aren’t vintage patches they think they have 5 official bolt thrower cenopaths lol.
I honestly like they expanded beyond just death metal though some of the Iron Maiden stuff looks really good
Drops are way to big im sick of seeing ptpp every damn show i go to and i used to be a really big fan... lots of their designs are really lazy now anyways with the occasional good patch in there i really miss old ptpp. Support the smaller distros that still put care and thought into their patches.
ehhhhhhhhhhh idk about that chief, sure ur not among the worst ones out there when it comes to greed, but the backpatches says something for your wallet which u cannot deny.
Also shame that the Summoning bp didnt turn out as good as anticipated :( was looking forward to it
I didn't actually do the design, I had a friend do it. And 20 for a backpatch isn't a bad price at all. You're entitled to your opinion, but I like how they turned out and no one else had any complaints. And say what you will, but money is no object to me, I have no desire to 'get rich quick'. I know of some distro owners that will say they have sold out of a design then mysteriously happen to have a few copies left months later and sell them for more than double the price.
You won't catch me doing that, months later they will still be the same price if I ever decided to part with any personal copies I keep for myself.
I'm not wishing to get into an argument as I said you are entitled to your opinion, but I myself know why I got into making patches and it wasn't money.
What I'm saying is that I don't just bring out anything to make money. I only release things that I'm passionate about. That's why I haven't had that many drops, I take my time
If you don’t think he’s doing it more for the scene than for his own pocket I don’t know what you’re on I’m not gonna lie. I bought patches he produced before he ran a distro/had named what he was doing that he made and sold solely on here just to have merch for bands and albums lacking representation. And if you think him making a website changes that then fuck I don’t know what to say to that. I agree distros are getting greedy and that newer distros can be a cash grab, but the term ‘exception’ exists for a reason.
If he did it for the scene he wouldnt be a wannabe ptpp and do for albums that dont have patches yet for example
Eternal Decay
Tyrant Trooper
Old Septicflesh
but no, making Horrified and World Downfall is unique and has never been done before
Hey for the record I do want to do Tyrant Trooper.
Also I don’t feel like getting dragged into this, I made the Terrorizer back patch because it didn’t exist and Repulsion because I wanted a decent horrified patch
I would attest that to WovenHoof, Armed with Hammers and BLR
That being said, I do not think it's immoral in any way to earn money with this. After all it is effort, creativity and costs you put in there. Love, passion and blood for the "scene" all good and fine, but I really don't see a problem, if you are making a bit of cash with this. As long as the prices aren't ridiculous. In that case just don't support.
Wovenhoof and BLR is more honest, remember when BLR was the shit back in the days
However i cannot say the same when it comes to the dude who called me a cocksucker :) after i exposed hiss tiny pepe that he was selling merch way overpriced and then procesds to do 1000 sodom and blasphemy patches. He's one of the worst ones when it comes to "passion distro"
Kofov6 - Get a few things straight.
It started as a passion, today it’s my biggest income. I’m saying it straight up - This is the way I pay my rent and this is what I deal with the majority of the day. If you put so much effort and don’t get properly paid from it, you’re a sucker in my books. So don’t bullshit label me “passion distro”. It’s passion AND business for me.
I don’t remember calling you cocksucker, but after seeing the way you express yourself online - maybe I did!
You fucking deserve it you little weird ass internet warrior, hiding behind your computer saying shit everywhere. Go breath some air or touch the grass or something 😘🖕🏼
Honesty, I prefer support smaller distros. PTPP are now enough big patch distro and have a lot of fans that buys every ugly shaped that they release and its ok 👍🏼 their money, their choice. But not me. Im only on the hunt for few designs now.
In my opinion the last couple drops have been way to big, I only wanted about 2 patches from each but I feel like the design quality has dropped a bit. If I did want more than that it would be difficult because they're relatively expensive, but most designs sell out really quickly because of scalpers.
They also went back on their whole "no reprints, once its gone its gone" thing, coupled with the constant shit talking of other distros who (mostly) mind their own busines and make bootlegs, because PTPP has never made a bootleg.
Shapes are nice but I also want something that wil fit on my vest, where am I supposed to put a penis shaped Limp Bizkit patch?
When i look at their instagram I see fans who are buying like $50 worth of patches every drop, I think vests and patches are becoming a bit of a consumer hobby. There are a lot of people building a million vests fully covered in PTPP, it's like the metalhead version of collecting star wars toys.
Semi related but ive grown sick and tired of this distro. Flat out ugly ass patch designs, artificial rarity bs, scalpers... ptp hasnt been about the music in a good while. And Simons attitude and fragile ego continues to baffle me. Havent bought from them in a good 1.5 years and i dont think ill ever order from them again.
They do have a large customer base. So, hate to say this, but if there's a demand, reproducing does help those who want those patches so they don't have to turn to people who are marking them up. Am just speaking from a business perspective.
Personally, they've made some patches I found very useful. Am not exactly a fan of shaped patches but some came in useful. Their square patches aren't bad. I've gotten patches from a bunch of distros. If you don't like the product, don't buy.
Drops are too large and they are saturating their once-great portfolio with random bands & designs some of which are so obscure that I don't even think their newer crowd goes after them. The artificial rarity argument is very true with newer ideas they are trying to promote, which is why their comic book sets don't and will not sell out even as time goes by.
Another thing I noticed is that whenever another, usually smaller, distro unveils a new design, ptpp will almost immediately try to match it with their own design of the same band/album.
