So i was browsing a bit through official Merch and more and more i see these cheap printed Patches sold in official online stores and from labels (rarely by the bands themself).
I get it, woven Patches are expensive...but how come musicians don't care anymore about their Merch? I think the more official stores and labels sell these the more it gets accepted by the mainstream.
This shit just makes me angry as someone who is passionate about the music and art. Would it help to contact musicians and tell them, the stuff sold with their Name is cheap shit and looks ass? Mortiis even sells this cheap crap in his official online store (besides one or two woven great ones).
I know this is really nitpicky but i just value good merch. And i know theres tons of topics about printed patches... but never before have i felt that it's becoming a cheap way for labels to exploit the customers.

Bands/musicians can't be blamed. It's the labels where the decisions are made. Labels are looking for the easiest/cheapest way to produce in orer to make more $$$. That's the only thing that counts. Basically all the major labels are doing digital prints these days, because they don't give a shit, they know fans will be buying either way. If you're looking for quality, you'll find it in the bootleg underground, as ironic as it may sound. That is where the passion lies these days. By buying from major labels, you support corporations anyway, not the band. These fuckers are fooling you, providing shit ass quality, which gets worse and worse by the day, taking more and more money from you

You know you're in a good place when you can afford getting riled up over printed patches

It definitely seems like it's hit or miss depending on the band. You have big bands like Slayer and Anthrax coming out with nice woven patch sets, and even Ghost have been doing woven patches, laser cut too I believe.

Yeah I would pay. I looked all over for my backpatch . Couldn't find a woven patch anywhere. I had no choice. Feel free to suggest a seller who makes woven patches custom.

Yea, I'm not really sold entirely on the printed stuff. I'll use it as a placeholder if I absolutely have to (like, if a woven version never existed, or is very hard to get a hold of. Plus, that sublimated stuff can be punctured too easily and can lead to needing an early replacement (depending on your lifestyle,) and lately I've seen total price gouging with patches that are either Printed or Sublimated. And indeed, 'Still ironic that the underground still gives you a better price than what you see on ebay; and/or better quality.

@Vectrex & WAYNE KNIGHTLY (clarification in case of confusion): As far as I know UKRPatcher just does Sublimating (at a real nice) and 100% customizable, dunno if they do woven (I could be wrong.) [Btw "V", cheers for the homage of the Vectrex Video Game console you're referencing, Minestorm FTW.]

No they stopped doing sublimed because of the shorty quality. My Mortiis patch from them is DTG print.
But they also do woven patches since some months now. Also official merch for bands.

Very cool, thanks for the info of their recent change.

I'm usually skeptical about printed patches because these often come from china (i.e crap). If its a good quality patch made in the u.s, then i wouldn't hesitate.

Napalm Records did this with the last two Alestorm releases: have a special version with an exclusive patch. Cool, if it weren't that a printed patch. In the past they had a wide variety of woven patches though, a pity to see them fall.
Wintersun did this too with their last album: a printed one instead of a woven as with their second album.
Sabaton are guilty too: at some point they had highly detailed woven patches of all their albums. Now it are only prints.
