I mean when it comes to non metal we can probably all agree we listen to some Pink Floyd and ccr but any rap, hip hop etc? I like some of the older stuff like wu tang and cypress hill, but even the song bank account by that new rapper 21 savage doesn't sound that bad to me. It's the really mumbly stuff I can't stand

nothing much I'd say against that really. except that I don't necessarily listen to rap/hiphop only because of the bad poetry. take 50 cent's in da club: heavily overrated (bad) poet but dre's beat is killer. rza isn't head of the wu tang for nothing. even mick harris started making dope beats.
besides, tell me that bands choose to do death, black, grindcore, etc. because their singers are particularly resourceful. would you actually call grunts, growls, pic squeals etc. singing?

I have a huge passion for British 30's/40's comedy singer & actor George Formby. I know it's random but since discovering his music 8 years ago it was like being taken through a portal and I've since amassed quite a nice little collection. Music from a completely different time when freedom of speech was still a thing in Great Britain... yet he still manage to get banned! But that's not what attracted me to his music. His ukulele playing and intelligently written laugh a minute lyrics get me going every time. An absolute genius and a blessing to the nation in need of a good laugh in such trying times.

I think everyone on here should check out splittertone as a genre, good artists are dj antitiesto and kurwastyle project imo its heavier than most of the metal i listen to, but you could argue its just noise and not really music

wu-tang, company flow, mf doom/madvillain/viktor vaughn, cannibal ox, the whole boot camp clik, anything by or with kool keith (especially analog brothers, black elvis & dr octagon), most of rawkus, compton's most wanted, nwa/eazy/dre/snoop/50, biz markie and a lot of old school, too short, lords of the underground, onyx!, beastie boys up to ill communication, the gangstarr foundation, Ice Muthafuckin T bitch...i could probably go on and on..
though I probably prefer soul, even though I partly owe my love of soul to hip hop (shaolin soul is really a revelation!)...otis redding, isaac hayes, everything on stax records really, al green, ann peebles, leon haywood, marvin gaye, the delphonics, smokey robinson (& the miracles), barry white...oh, and erykah badu!
i'm also a sucker for country music (especially americana), dub reggae (hence ambient dub), I loved grunge & indie...it follows everything by neil young, judgment night soundtrack, love the occasional 80's flashback with perhaps terence trent d'arby, duran duran, bakerman, human league, eurythmics, tina turner, ub 40...tom waits before rain dogs, tindersticks, bryan ferry, portishead & things like that, the stone roses, bossa nova (antonio carlos jobim etc.), the bee gees...i think i'll stop now.
yeah, i suppose i really like music. but i can't stand anything with panflutes.

Fawk, I listen to all kinds of stuff... Heh, my dad joked to me years ago that he was impressed of how diverse my musical tastes were even though he didn't like 90% of it. Even my late-mother a few years back noted the same thing in the car and the fact that my music was utterly bi-polar in assortment.
But, ya know, typical rock classics, though I'm not big on AC/DC liek I used to (blame the radio.) I like Elvis far more than the Beetles. But to throw some stuff few people have heard or hear about: John Mayall and the Bluesbreakers (1960s British Blues, loads of famous musicians cut their teeth in his band.) Rod Stewart (yes, I said it, and his stuff prior to the mid 90s and beyond are rather solid and he's got some great guitarists; besides, I grew up with his stuff in the 80s thanks to my mom.) The Smashing Pumpkins (90s era.) Van Halen (Dad blared them in the dead of the night for decades.) Patsey Cline (Classic Country is GREAT, -I can't stand modern stuff.) There's a few Duran Duran songs I like, and modern day Synth-wave, like Lazerhawk, and Master Boot Record. The BeeGees. Vivaldi is my utmost fav Classical Composer, and there's always Beethoven. ParlamentFunk/Funkadelic, Sublime. Damn near anything from Motown records from the 60s is great. The Four Tops, The Temptations, Little Richard, Auretha Franklin, The Supremes, The Chiffons, Otis Redding, The Crystals. The Beach Boys, Dick Dale. The list goes on.
I think old school Rap & Hip-Hop is good (but I really don't listen to it leisurely,) I fukking HATE todays crap, though I will say that Atmosphere's - "When Life Gives You Lemons, You Paint That Shit Gold" album is absolutely SOLID, and Corporate Avenger is a great act. Apparently, frigg'n 50cent has over 18Billion views in one of his youtube videos alone, and I looked at last night and said WHAT THE FUCK??? SERIOUSLY? I had to cleanse the pallet with Beastie Boys Sabotage. Fuck'n new generation is fucking things up. TLC - "Crazy, Sexy, Cool" is awesome.
And any of this stuff can come up randomly between Napalm Death, Slayer, Origin, Immortal when my library is on shuffle. It's just, I listen to far more casually than anything else in the last 20 years.

Oingo Boingo is my favorite non metal band hands down. Also The Smiths, Fields of the Nephilim, The Cure, Men At Work, King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard, Sisters of Mercy, Echo and the Bunnymen, A-ha, Joy Division/New Order, Warren Zevon, Molchat Doma, She Past Away, Alyans, Pink Floyd, King Crimson, Kraftwerk, Gary Numan, Hank Williams Sr., Marty Robbins, etc.
Also for any people who have doubts in rap, check out the Memphis rap stuff like Three 6 Mafia and Memphis revival. Some pretty intense stuff.

I'm a huge New Wave and Synthpop fan! Although I think my favourite non-metal band right now has to be the Swedish europop band called Army of Lovers. They are so crazy and wild with their music and appearance and they are one of the only few pop bands that I know of that just wanted to be a band just for fun. They were never in it for the fame or money.
A friend of mine told me that Army of Lovers were like the non-metal equivalent to Gwar, and honestly the more I look into both band's philosophy, the more I see the resemblance. Also, at this point I've probably listened to AoL's The God's of Earth and Heaven album as much as I listened to Gwar's Scumdog of the Universe album.
Also Crucified and Israelism are two absolutely fun songs. I can never stop listening to them.

I suppose you don't mean metal-adjacent genres like punk. I'm a big fan of synthwave, acid jazz and 80s j-pop/city pop.

I grew up in the 70s and 80s in the UK, so because of the times and my friends I am still listening to bands like OMD and Ultravox, together with artistes like Hazel O'Connor and Nik Kershaw. No shame in this for me, it's the music I grew up with. Hell, even Abba and Boney M take me back to happy times in my youth, lol

I've had a fat boner for Irish music since I was in middle school, I heard a Flogging Molly CD and it fucked my life up.
Planxty is my all time favorite group, with the Pogues / Shane MacGowan as a close second. Me and my ex girlfriend even had a celtic duo where I played accordion and bouzouki while she played violin and harp.

Pretty sure classic rock and punk are natural givens for most of us.
My non-metal music taste is all over the place, I like 80s-2000s pop, synthwave, chiptune, japanese pop and jazz fusion, neurofunk, house, vaporwave, power pop, AOR, indie rock, folk punk, dream pop, math rock, gothic rock, old-schooll hip-hop/rap, and certain video game and show soundtracks. Though with most of these I'm not super dedicated to the same way I am with metal, I just kind of blindly listen to and enjoy.
