Tribute Jacket

Background: Several months ago some friends and I purchased tickets to attend Metallica's June 9th show at the Iowa Speedway. At only 21 years old, I have been an avid Metallica fan for nearly 12 years now, but I had never been to see them live. So, I decided that I wanted to create something that would truly commemorate this monumental event. Thus, this tribute denim jacket was born.

Jacket Statistics: After I bought the jacket, I would estimate that roughly 2 - 3 months of patch purchase / collection occurred prior to the approximately 30 hours of hand-sewing that it took to actually complete the jacket. We used "invisible" nylon thread to sew the patches and a set of larger hand needles. One needle actually broke from overuse so we were glad that we had a backup.

Thanks! I hand picked all the patches for this jacket very carefully. A lot of them are official NOS merch and some are bootlegs. I think the guitar logo patch is a bootleg, but I agree with what you said about St. Anger. Its one of my go to albums after a bad day. It seems to soak up the anger like a sponge.

i like the backpatch u have too but a critique would be that maybe a "metal up your ass" backpatch would look cooler, would make it look more vintage, if that backpatch is hard to find tho dont worry about it, its fine as is

Yeah the original "Metal Up Your Ass" backpatch from 1987 is fairly hard to find, but I have another jacket in the works right now that will be using the even more more "Cyborg Lady" back patch from 1984. I am pretty excited about it! It took me over 2 years to find one.

that sounds awesome, i love rare patches, funniest thing just happened right now i was looking up that metallica guitar patch and found another patch that looks exactly like my guitar! now ill have to buy more patches

I am also really fond of rare patches, they drive me to keep buying more for other jacket projects. But that's funny to hear about the guitar patch! I think I got the one on this jacket from Ebay to be honest.

i like funny, obscure kinds of patches they dont necessarily have to be rare but i like anything that makes me think of a theme for jackets, never would have thought ibanez would have a patch of my guitar! i would put that metallica one on a classic rock vest if i ever made one haha

The patch arrangement is tops. Not my band, but a great jacket!

Thanks! I did tons of research online and looked through a lot of old photos to see how people in the 1980's arranged the patches on their jackets and tried to stay true to that method.

Oh really? For the next jacket I am working on I am looking for Ride the Lightning Tour era and earlier patches. If it fits the bill then I would definitely consider it!

Yeah the backpatch is probably one of my favorite parts about the jacket. And yes, the poster is epic! I have it framed and hanging on the wall in my office now!

Guess this TShirt!
