King's X

I went to go see King's X for the first time last night and was amazed. Musically they're one of the tightest live bands out there, definitely up there with Rush. It's too bad they didn't make it as big as other bands from the time, but i can understand why. King's X is a band that has taken pride in not fitting into any stylistic boxes for the past 30+ years. Their sound as a bizarre blend of gospel, funk, Beatlesesque psychedelia, and progressive metal. Put it all together and you got King's X. I can also say this is probably the most spiritually uplifting metal show I've ever been to. All the songs about faith, hope, and love. There's a reason they named their third album Faith, Hope, Love! Add that to the grooves and melodies and you've got yourself a heavy metal church service presided by the honorable reverends Dug, Ty, and Jerry.

Nice! A friend of mine saw them on Tuesday and said they were great. I've seen them three times (the latest being last year) but I'm not gonna lie, I'd say Dennis DeYoung's solo band blows Styx out of the water. Tommy and JY sound great, but the knockoff Dennis just doesn't have it anymore. Meanwhile, the real Dennis does at nearly 70. On top of that, his guitarists look and sound just like Tommy and JY from 1981 because he picked them from a Styx tribute band. If you haven't seen them already, I highly recommend you do,

I'm sure I'll have a great time none the less.
