Köstritzer anyone?

Last night I was seeing an Italian band called Barbarian at a record store in San Francisco called RS94109 and before the first band went on, I bought one of these from the bar and I like this brand I was unfamiliar with up until that moment. Far superior to that Lagunitas IPA shit hipsters love drinking in cities like San Francisco and Oakland. Any Germans here have any positive opinions of this beer?

Der Todesking

It's an average german beer, pretty wellknown here (Köstritzer in general)! Not so much into dark beers, these are not that popular in Germany. Haven't tried this one.

I think it's good. What types of beers are most popular over there?

Der Todesking

Definitely depends what area you are in... In Bavaria it's most definitely some wheat beer like Paulaner... But for the rest of Germany it must be Warsteiner, Bitburger, Krombacher, Becks... My friends & me mostly drink a local brew called Welde (Weldebräu). Price & taste are really good imo.

Germans don't fuck around when it comes to beer.

Der Todesking

Haha, yes I guess so! Especially in Bavaria! It's really a part of culture there.

Oktoberfest comes to mind immediately.

I grew up in northern Germany, where Pils is the choice. Most popular is Krombacher, Warsteiner and Becks. I like Jever most.
Bavaria has its own culture - and beer. I lived for 4 years in Munich, where Weissbier (in other german regions called Weizenbier) like Franziskaner, Paulaner and Erdinger is popular. (Avoid Schöfferhofer - that´s horrible.) My favorite is Maisel´s Weisse.
Even more popular in Munich is "Helles" (Lager) like Augustiner, Paulaner, Hacker Pschorr and Löwenbräu. My favourite is Tegernseer.
Cheers!

Lots of brands to check out!

Schöfferhofer is great :D (So are all the other beers you mentioned, except Tegernseer, I've never tasted that one)

MasterDeath

Delicious!! I was drinking this one these 4 days on Party San festival. Love it

Well, that's certainly a ringing endorsement, haha.

I am proud to be from a brewery town in England, so I naturally like to support the local beers/ales.
Though the Germans do a nice beer when the International beer festivals come to town!

I also was drinking Köstritzer Schwarzbier few times (one of cheapest german beer in my country). Like Der Todesking says - it's an average beer. Taste not bad, but I prefer Czech dark lager like Krusovice, Samson, Kozel, Primator, Starobrno.
But no one else brewing good bitter pilsener like Germany. Jever, Bitburger, Paderborner, Hasseröder, Warsteiner, Konig pils, Radeberger... damn I can drink tons of them :)

More beers to check out!

blackstar1965

That's one of my favorites. They sell it at BevMo.
If you want a tasty, reasonably priced dark German beer, try Erdinger Weißbier Dunkel. Also available at BevMo, but in 4 packs for 6 bux. If you wanna treat yourself and change your life: Weihenstephaner Korbinian.

Btw, I live in the south bay. Always rad seeing locals on the web.
