I was on a short trip to Norway in 2006, which was a Birthday present from my uncle.
Though as stated the pictures are already 10 years old i thought i'd share them anyway.
It was an amazing but of course much too short experience. The landscape was overwhelming, especially the Fjords and the Hardangervidda.
In particular it is really impressive how much of mythology and lore survived and still "lives" in the daily life of cities like Oslo, be it the Bank called "Odin" or mythological references on the facade of the town hall.
A truly enriching experience.
The guy on the 5th picture from below is my uncle. :)
Fett!
Thanks! I have been to a record store for sure, just don't remember the name anymore, since it is so long ago already.
But for sure it wasn't Neseblod, even at that age i would have realised that pretty certainly.
Awesome pictures! Looks like such a cool country. One small comment... switch the watermark from "Large" to "Small" on these pictures, it's very distracting!
Hahaha, funny. But i of course do not really look like this anymore. Nowadays everybody tells me, that i look exactly like Zlatan Ibrahimovic. Which is not too far away from the truth...
very nice pictures here mate, Vigeland Sculpture Park is a pretty cool place to see, the work that went into those statue's is amazing. The Fjords are incredible as well.
Thanks alot, Sailor! Yes, it was truly an incredible experience and i would love to go there again! And someday will!
Indeed particularly the Vigelands Park was most impressive.
Thanks man! That was my intention trying to cover as many different "stages" as possible. After all i had to choose from about 900 Photos.
Pictures 1 to 7 (except the one with the "House half") show the Vigeland Park in Oslo, which is the biggest Sculpture park in the world with more than 2.000 sculptures made by Gustav Vigeland.
Absolutely worth seeing and highly impressive! The Monolith for example that You can see on No 3 and 5 is about 56 feet high.
The "Norse Warrior" is the One Eyed himself. ;) You can see it noticing the "eight" legs the Horse has. This was part of a series of Carvings on the facade of the town hall. I will see if i have more of these.
I feel kind of embarrassed right now. Of course it's Odin on Sleipnir with Hugin and Munin flying overhead. I can't believe I got that wrong considering how much I've always loved Norse mythology.
Haha, don't worry mate, that can happen!
I've uploaded a couple more, among others You can see the 3 Norns, Loki and Thor with Tanngnjostr and Tanngrisnir. :)
All of them are amazing! I love the one that looks like Sigurd the Volsung and the ones showing the North Germanic equivalents of Adam and Eve. Are there plenty of Norwegians who openly express affection for the polytheistic roots of that country? It seems like Norway is nominally Christian at best.
Sorry, did not see this comment before.
I honestly do not really know, but i think it is more a remaining lore than acutal believe or spiritual conviction or something like that. Still great that it lives at least in the townscape.

Yeah, they're beautiful. Something else I really like is that carving of the Norse warrior on horseback. Very nice.
