Helmet and Local H

This show was a week ago but I haven't gotten around to posting actionshots until now. Please forgive me.

If you saw the marquee and thought to yourself, “What year is it?”, you can't be blamed haha. Last Friday at the Metro, it was the mid 90s all over again with flannel and moshing galore. Helmet has been on the road for the last couple months promoting their new album and Local H has been supporting. After a successful U.S. leg, they will be embarking on a European leg next month.

I was never the biggest Helmet fan, but I've always wanted to see them live. They were great, however, Local H absolutely smoked them.

I don't know how many fans of either band are on here, but if you've seen Local H, you know exactly what a mean. They're pretty much an impossible act to follow. This was my second time seeing them year and one of the best sets I've ever seen them do. While they were the opener, they did get a full hour set which with Chicago being their hometown was to be expected. They played some of their heaviest material including “Nothing Special”, “Cynic”, and “Half Life”. I was right up front and Scott Lucas was talking to me during Local H's set, pointing at me and saying, “I stood in that exact same spot when Helmet played here in 1992!” How about that!

Helmet played an hour and a half of new songs and classics. The one song I really wanted to here was “Turned Out” and they played it. Not only did they play it, but Scott came out to sing it with them! The crowd went nuts. They closed out the show with “In the Meantime” and it was during this song that Scott made his way up to where I was, put his arm around me, and we sang along the whole song together. That was a pretty amazing experience since I've been a diehard Local H fan for years. It could be argued though that if there wasn't a Helmet, there may not be a Local H, so that made it that much cooler. We hung out afterwards and Scort went on about how much he loved my kutte...except for the Cinderella patch hahahahaha.
