most shows I've been to, the pit always moves counter-clockwise in a circle (I don't know why but I've picked up on it) - I keep with the flow of traffic so to speak haha but I don't just jog in a circle nor do I slam into anyone or try to knock anyone down - despite my shaved hair, I bang my head and do a sort of scott-ian style stomp or a retarded kind of skanking haha and just let myself be a human pinball around the pit - all great fun!!!
Northern Hemisphere I guess, in Australia we tend to move clockwise, haha not really sure if that's true? Think it might be the same as water running down the drain, now that's definitely opposite to you guys! LOL Must take notice next gig, interesting though, I hadn't notice until you mentioned it!
Mainly just headbang and flick my hair back, and show the horns of course. Just cos I'm old not going to stand there like a statue, shows the band you're enjoying the show. No mosh pit, too old and fragile! ;-))
I'd say every now and then, but not nearly as often as I used to anymore. Usually at festivals when there's a band I don't feel the need to be front-row for, I might be found in the pit.. drunk..
That's the point. Those fu***ng streetfighters should stay at home. If the crowd is big enough, i'll see a chance to stand anywhere else, but most of the concerts are that small, that i am always pissed off from that guys.
Almost all the shows I go to are underground punk or metal shows, where moshing isn't something you do, it's just something that happens as a result of everyone wanting to be up front. Systematic moshing like circle pits and wall of death is fucking lame.
Near the front of the stage, to the outer ring of the pit is best for me . it still gets agressive, but i can slam beers when needed (its always needed) I also usually run into cool people there, nothing beats sharing metal enthusiasm with people standing next to you. Grabbing a buddy or stranger and drunkenly singing the lyrics at the band is always a plus for being in this area....

Haven't moshed recently because of little twats ruining the pit by throwing punches and there hardcore dancing shit, wish it wasn't a fighting contest
