Compared to Japan (only other country ive been to) Australia is alot more expensive. guess it has to do with more travel expenses and smaller audience numbers.

oldmate's picture

Yea how can you answer this. I say the latest Deicide show in America was 10 bucks.

I think if your talking about US bands in the US the ticket pricing is very fair. Even cheap. I have no idea what it costs to see an international band in America.

I think internation bands in Australia are hit and miss. Like the Kreator / Deathangel show was great vault. I on the other hand think Tankard tickets are over priced.

I am normally willing to pay up to 50 bucks before I start asking myself if I really want to go. I normally do and so I pay the extra :)

kereealazer's picture

Yes they are expensive normally.

Taikon's picture

I was going to vote Yes, but everything in New Zealand is expensive so I guess it ends up being the normal rate here. Plus, if it's a band I really want to see, I'll try my best to churn out the extra cash.

Bayernpirat's picture

the most expensive concerts I have visited was AC/DC at the Black Ice Tour (each 100€) but all the other concert ticket has normal prices for me

gizter's picture

i havn't really seen any big bands. the most i ever paid was 15 or 20 euro for Enforcer/Angel Witch/Grand magus, dutch doom days (mini festival), and for Macabre + 3/4 opening acts.
traveling usualy costs more for me.

biteyourself's picture

Depends what you want to see. Like Fortarock just now was 68€ or so, and Slayer next month is already 40€ for a club show. Battlecross on the other hand is only €15. Sepultura/Suicide Angels is 21€ and the whole Into the Grave festival was just 7€

So I would say it's selectively expensive.

Metal Panther 54's picture

To me, its depending on the show. Cause some shows I went to I paid $20 to $50 bucks, but the highest so far I paid for was $75-$80 and that was for VIP tickets.

i voted for YES..because the most tickets ARE to expensive alrdy. Not all - for sure. Smaller bands in small venues are still offering a good price (15-25 euro) ..but beside this FEW concerts..., the tickets are mostly to expensive.
For sure..i go to see Maiden or AC/DC anyway..because
a) they are old - maybe it will be the last tour (soon)
b) the band plays only every 8th year here.., so i dont mind to pay 70+ euro for a ticket of a single gig.
..but this few bands, i would pay that...u can count on 1 hand..

SAATANANVITTU's picture

I voted yes even though it depends. Some bands ask insane prices just because they can (they're so big that they know that people will come no matter what), other, smaller bands usually keep the prices humble. Also sometimes it's shocking that there's almost no difference in the price of a festival ticket (even 3 days) and a ticket to see just one band and their support acts (for example, I've paid 75,- to see Iron Maiden and 75,- for a 3-day ticked to Neurotic Deathfest. Guess which one I think was more "money well spent"? Answer: It was not the first one, and I love Maiden).

Hárbarðr's picture

It is hit and miss here too. I mean, a relatively small foreign band ticket usually goes for about 19 euros (in local currency), bigger bands will be more expensive, and really small and local bands, cheaper. Not so obscene, but this is the general rule, very big bands will always be very fucking expensive.

Shoot Gunner's picture

It depends. Big time shows are usually really god damn expensive. But some lesser known bands are pretty cheap and free shows are always the best. even if it's an okay band you can't beat a free show!

perkele's picture

I have no problem spending big money for Maiden. But when it comes to other bands they are usually tooo expensive.

nemain's picture

As others have said, it really varies, and, aside from general logistics, I think it can often be down to the venue. For example, I regularly see shows here in London at a certain smallish place charging £20+ for bands where the rest of the tour is around £10, and when those same bands play at other, sometimes larger venues in London it's nowhere near as expensive, even if the line-up has more bands. Then there's a few promoters who without fail put the tickets quite high even for very small bands in very small venues, which of course has the effect of a smaller turnout (which has pissed off at least a couple of these bands). On the flipside of that we have consistently excellent gigs at a venue which is always free, no matter how 'big' the band is (NB: we're still talking UG bands though).

For larger gigs (EG. arenas or really esteemed venues like the Royal Albert Hall), the price can start at around £25 for atrocious seats with blocked views stretching up to hundreds (and that's before all the ticket touts start eBaying them for literally thousands). I have gone to a few of those gigs, but only if a.) I really fucking LOVE the band, and b.) I can get a ticket for less than £100 and it's either standing or a decent seat. The last time I did that was to see The Cure at the Royal Albert Hall again, and the £80 I paid was 'rewarded' with a solid 45 song set, so I think it was worth it for what I paid. For what others paid though... yeah, I wouldn't have stretched that far myself.

Stiopa's picture

Yes. But I still tend to go to whichever show I want the most.

OffalOfferings's picture

It really depends
There's some amazing metal gigs I've been to that were in the $5 to 10$ range
And some that I don't regret spending the 50$
The most expenssive concert I went to was a one day festival with a bunch of little bands and bigger ones like Alice in chains, janes addiction. That was 100$ for 2 tickets
I'd love everything to be $5 10$ gigs tho
Omg that would be nice :) haha

atrophythrasher's picture

yes specially the drinks and stuff and the trip to it with car or train

Jimmh's picture

Not really. Though stadium etc. gigs are pricey but I prefer smaller venues. There are many good gigs for 20-30€ and under in a year. Some festivals seems to get more expensive every year and it's getting really close that they're too pricey.

Possessed by Exumer's picture

It all depends on the venue for me,some venues tend to charge more than what it should be but the most expensive show i'll be attending will be summer slaughter which i believe it's 40$

Chemical Burn's picture

Ireland is generally way more expensive than mainland Europe or even the UK, but I don't think tickets are really overpriced for most small to medium gigs. The most I pay for tickets these days is around €30 for big-ish bands, I'd pay €7-€20 for most gigs. My Carcass tickets were something like €32 and I'm going to see Inquisition (€15) and Abaddon Incarnate (€10 with a CD) next month.

BigNickTX's picture

The last show i went to was a one day festival with sixteen bands: Crobot, Adrenaline Mob, Charm City Devils, Devil You know, Filter, HellYeah, Toadies, Skid Row, Killswitch Engage, Staind, Deftones and Avatar (among others). The ticket was 50 American, which, to me, was a great deal.

kertalaaki's picture

Yes, they are. Especially in Europe. (bye bye money) But that doesn't effect me, I still go and see the artists I want. Also travelling about 400km to the venue and then back home costs a shit ton of money. (Atleast using the public transports, but it still gets somewhat pricey when using own car.) Still it's worth of it.

PureFuckingMetalhead666's picture

Here they can get pretty expensive, considering the small audience.
But, I think it's worth 64 Euros to go see Megadeth(2 and half hour set), as it's my dream to see them live.
Though sometimes the Promoters have a deal with each other, so sometimes they make a promotion.
Last year it's been Children of Bodom live+Dark Tranquility, Elvenking, Salem, Desert and Nothing Lies Beyond.
All for 86 Euros rather then 96 Euros separately.(as CoB was a separate concert)

Morbid_Welshman's picture

It depends on the Band and Venue for me.

There's usually nothing in Swansea, so I usually have to travel to Cardiff to see anyone. That is of course when whoever organizes the tours recognises Wales as a country, which really pisses me off.

vomitoxic's picture

I voted for yes but then again I still go to see bands I like.

If tickets would be cheaper I think at least I would go to see many more show and go to check out some bands what my friends like and so on.
Like 12 euros for some show wouldn't be that bad but 27-30€? Nope.
