you got them from madpatcher?
that dude ripsoff ppl
now they look great w8 a few months and then they start to fade.
after a half year they are gray and you don't see the patch annymore.
i feel sorry for you man had 1 patch myself its now gone
it was white after a year...
Ahk, well I have plenty others I can replace them with but I'll wait a few months and see, and certainly take your side if I see that kind of thing happening.
If there are problems with these patches fading, it's most likely that the inks used by MadPatcher are not UV-resistant. If they are water/ink based, they will fade due to sun or weathering...Archival/UV inks are pigmented and can provide for an estimated 200 years of image integrity.
There are UV coatings out there (some are in a can that you brush on, others are in spray can form)...Those patches look nice, you might want to spring for a UV protectant coating to give these longer image life. Just a thought.
Thanks, I'll look into that.
Not being a smart-arse but what specific products or websites could you recommend?
I've bought a few patches from the Mad Patcher for a while (towards the end of last year) and even though they haven't faded, I haven't had 'em sewn onto my vest yet - so I had no idea about this concern and would prefer to know how I can make sure they last longer.
So anything I can use or be recommended would be most appreciated! Or another website/seller that does the same.
yea mad patcher patches suck. They fade really quickly
I never bought from Madpatcher because I realized I could make my own printed patches that would last much longer.
How so?
Are talking about those old punk-styled printed black fabric ones or the same ones the Mad Patcher produces?
Those mad patcher patches are Sublimation printed. This means the ink is printed directly INTO the fabric, as opposed to screen printing, where the pigments are printed ONTO the fabric. Most of your white t-shirts(mousepads, etc) are made this way as screen prints look really shitty on white tees. The ink is horrendously expensive though, hence why you don't see alot of white metal tees.
Anybody can buy a sublimation printer these days for around $100. You can get a great one for about $500. (They used to be in the $1,000s) rip some images off google and you're in business! However Textile grade inks cost about $150 for an 8oz. Bottle, and you need red, yellow, and blue to create all colors. So nearly $500 every time you need more ink! (hafta sell alot of patches!) This mad patcher guy, I've never seen his work but probably he uses a cheaper grade of ink designed for a different application. Looks great when you get it, but it doesn't hold up.
I've since sprayed them with a coating that protects against UV and whatever other things, we'll see if they hold up.
Why bothering buying these patches... U got alot of other great site's with original patches for even cheaper !! This guy from madpatcher rips off, i know a girl got like 70% of there jacket full of the madpatch shit, and after a year its all faded away, and you cant read the patch anymore.... You can better throw your money in the toilet, thats even more fun instead of buying crap from that guy ! Ps; If u visit 1 big festival, u got ur battle jacket full of great original patches.
When you say original, do you mean custom, or official?
think he means Official
Well dennis if you do mean official, please do tell me when you find a Psycroptic, Lykathea Aflame, Lost Horizon, Kiuas, Appalling Spawn, Intestine Baalism, Fleshgod Apocalypse, Hour of Penance, Pain of Salvation, or Ayreon official patch ;)
I have actually found an official atheist embroidered small patch recently at abyssrecords (got added about half a month ago), which I'll get soon enough.
Well... Np then, Go buy this crap, I'll talk to you next year, when all patches are faded away, and then you cant read Psycroptic, Lykathea Aflame, Lost Horizon, Kiuas, Appalling Spawn, Intestine Baalism, Fleshgod Apocalypse, Hour of Penance, Pain of Salvation, or Ayreon ;)
Yeah big deal, the sum total of those particular patches would be about $30, the same amount most people spend on alcohol or junk food a week. Rip into me for making an uninformed decision all you want, but I have a couple of options (after coating the patches)- I can either wait for them to fade, then buy new ones that'll last me a few months at a cheap price, or I can cover them with a few of the other 30 high-quality embroidered or printed patches I now own.
Do someone here knows if the abyss records printed patches are good quality??? I bought most of my patches on abyss records and now I'm afraid that they will fade. Please help me.
Yeah I've got a few myself- I'd always prefer embroidered over printed, but the printed ones I have are good quality.
Then again I haven't worn them out a lot so I can't say how long their life is, but abyssrecords is a website that can be trusted.
There is nothing "official" about tha patches that come out of Abyss Records. The dude has an embroidery machine and a sublimation printer and makes everything in his basement. The embroidered patches are VERY nice though I must say. However they are bootlegs.
Ah yes quite right, they are good quality though.
Vanjah Slajh from Triptykon...
I love the Odyssey and Operation Mindcrime patches
does madpatcher sell his stuff on festivals?
Thanks man, they absolutely do!
I can tell you enjoy some good tech-death- if you check out my updated kutte you'll see Psycroptic and Hour of Penance custom patches, but this time embroidered (and better quality).
Did your patches already fade or not?
Btw that's some sick shit ! Atheist ! Psycroptic ! , FA , HoP ! great taste dude !
Hey man, thanks for the comment.
The thing is, the only of the above patches I have on my kutte is the Pain of Salvation patch. I sprayed them all with a UV-resistant coating, so the PoS one hasn't faded yet (the others have been in my closet the whole time so they wouldn't fade, coating or not).
I ended up getting custom embroidered Atheist, Psycroptic, FA and HoP patches from over-zone, simply because I knew they'd last and embroidered generally looks better (at least it always does for logos).
At any rate, if you're worried about printed patches fading (though I haven't found my Abyss records ones to have faded yet, after a year though mostly nighttime wear), spray them with a UV-resistant spray. I didn't spray my Abyssrecords ones, but if you want that added security you should go for it- the only cost is it tends to reflect light a bit more (have a glossy look, which I don't like as much).
Okay dude thanks !
