I said it 3 times already and i ll say one more. Mayhem did not come up with Black Metal. Venom did in '81-'82. What do you mean by serious? In my eyes Venom are way more serious than any of the Norwegian bands.

And Varg had a point doing all This stuff. Yes, Mayhem contiued their work, and made it more serious. And as a result they felt like they didn't have a scene to share. So they came up with black metal. And it is natural that i mention mostly bands from the north, I live there. But yes, Latin America has crasy bands! Aswell as shitty( Can't for example stand Mystifier).

If you own that album you shouldn't make any speculations about who created and named the genre. Mayhem did nothing, they just continued were Venom, Bathory and Hellhammer had left off.
