Kind of got lazy with my vest for a while. I've taken almost everything off the front except for the studs, the Necronomicon patch and the patches above the pockets. I plan to rework the back because I'm getting a little bored with it as well. The photo with the Possessed patch are the future plans I have for the back. I have yet to start sewing...
Starting to look a little less like my beginnings and more like my favorites from then and now but I'm ok with that, and that's what matters. :p

Somebody made mistacke - wrong - Venom never was BLACK METAL - two ( jacket brilliant ) will be problem going on concert in - tree DISSECTION death metal , change patch on reall BLACK METAL's hordes and will be great !!!666 !!!
It's not really supposed to be a black metal theme as much as it is to pay homage to all the bands I got into when I first discovered extreme metal, hence the title "My Roots."
I must also disagree about your statement on Venom. However, I thank you for your positive comment.
venom may not be very black metal, but they do that whole satanic lyrical theme goin on there hance they wher among the first extreme metal band. as for sound, they sound alot like the new wave of british heavy metal bands.
I consider them to be very black metal. Things may have changed within the genre along the way and over the years but that doesn't invalidate what they were. That's the way I see it though. Here's why; all the elements of their music back then are present in the music (black metal in general) today. It's just done in different ways but it's still there.
agreed back in the day, venom and mercyful fate were as black metal as it got. but to todays standards they have nothing to do with black metal (sound wise at least) Venom has every right to be on this vest. and did someone above say that dissection was death metal??
I tend to get into the "Venom isn't black metal" argument here and there, myself. I don't understand how a band that is so obviously fundamental to that genre can even be denied. Sound (genres, etc) is ever evolving but imo, it started with them.
I suppose it will always be a matter of opinion. Mine will always be what I have previously stated and I don't believe it to be any other way. The lyrics were blasphemous (and much more cleverly so than almost all of today's black metal bands) and still had the dark atmosphere that it does today. Again, it was done differently but it was still there. There probably weren't as many people laughing at it back then as there are today either. Shame how the genre has made quite a joke out of itself through it's "progression."
It just depends on the way one defines "black metal". I myself also define it by the sound, so to me, Venom and Mercyful Fate are simply heavy metal. Others define it by the "whole package" and the message, then they are definitely black metal. Either way, both were important to black metal. So I think both groups are right.
Anyway are genres just a way to sort and organize music, but that's it! Genre wars are so dumb...
BTW the last sentence doesn't refer to your comment, just to the genre discussion in general. I'm totally your opinion that it's about opinion.
Haha, it's cool. I didn't think you were dumping on me about genre differences. I used to think calling the music anything other than just "metal" was rubbish because I felt like it somewhat implied separation between the 'heads. But there are bands so different from each other that they probably should be labeled.

Pretty decent. Some of the bands on there are pretty mediocre.
Most of them put out their best work at the beginning of their careers but I don't know if I'd go that far.
No band on there is mediocre. Their latest albums are crap but in their debuts they were great bands.

its mostly people arguing about what I said. I know 3 patches are not too extreme and there are worse offenders on here but this guy missed alot of other great bands he could of put on his jacket to make it coooler. When I told him every person on here decided to start rippin on the comment...
Check your inbox, and I didn't "miss" anything. As the description clearly states, this vest was meant to pay tribute to MY roots. Like I said in the P.M. it would be one thing if you were being somewhat constructive in your criticism, but you favor insulting people instead.
And I'm sure that when he knows and listens to that many bands that the jacket is too small for all of them, there soon won't be too many bands with more than one patch. But it isn't about putting on as many "cool" bands as possible, it's about putting on the bands he loves.
And maybe he knows an awful lot of bands but just loves venom that much that he want's to put on that many patches of them! Then that's cool too.
But, to be honest, I also kinda get you point. I think if you had formulated your first post a bit differently (something like "I wouldn't put on three patches of the same band, but however...") the whole discussion wouldn't even have started...
But maybe you always just give nonconstructive comments and this one was just the last straw, I don't know that, then I understand the others attacking you here for almost nothing...
