Your Parents and Metal

SacredTutor
Tue, 11/01/2011 - 15:00

So what do your parents (if you still talk to them) say about you and your obsession with metal? Personally my family is not a metal family at all! My mom doesnt give a fuck, but my aunt and stuff look at me like am the fucking exorsist or something. Lol

overkill386

nothing really, they just complain about why i dont take care of my hair and why i cut my band shirts and put them on other things like my sweater. im guessing there just glad i didnt turn out to be a gangster lol

SacredTutor

Lmao! Are you hispanic? Cause my mom samething with me about the gangster thing. Lol But my mom only asks, why any money i get goes straight to metal. Lol

DoctorDeath

tell her you're involved in a crazy cult :D

overkill386

yeah i am lol, my parents get mad when they give me money to buy jeans (because of the ripped jeans i would wear) and come back with a band shirt

Maddolis

Better than them giving you money for clothes and you coming back with drugs ;)

whiteravenmetal

agree, but Metal is like a drug, you taste a few and you will be a adict the rest of your life.

Terroristic-Hammerings

haha instead of all of us being crackheads we are METALHEADS!!!!!

JUANTHRASH

awesome quote because with metal, alcohol or drugs are not needed

VoodooChild

Alcohol and Drugs are definitly not needed in Metal man, well said. They do bring alot of fun with it though.

Adrian

My dad was a big metalhead and my mom is into hair metal and that sort of stuff. So I never had any troubles getting into metal from them. If anything I think my parents were happy I got into good metal instead of the crap that's popular.

ultmetal

My parents told me it was a fade and a phase that I would outgrow. I'm 43 now and still haven't outgrown it! \m/

Rotten

Same here dude ... Got into metal when i was around 6 or 7 (1984 or so) ... Im 32 now \m/ Freaked them out at first - now they are used to it. Now i freaking them out again cos my son is getting into it also \m/

ShieldbitersValhalla

My mom used to not like my music, but I think she understands my connection to metal now. I'm like,"Bye mom, I'm going on a road trip to see a show", mom says,"Ok, be safe!" Of course, I'm also a very safe driver, lol.

Deathcore.Is.Not.Metal.

Sounds like my story too

mayhempunk666

my parents dont care, my mom got pretty anal though when she found out i beleived in paganism and aspects of satanism...but she got over it..my dad on the other hand freaks out and gets all ass hurt when he goes to shows with me and sees something anti christian

Thrash_Maniac

my mom don't care but my dad hates it, he thinks that i'm possesd and stuff like that:p
but my uncle (died in a motor accident) was a metalhead too, i go to graspop with him when i was only 10 years old

lak89

My family is fine with it, my dad couldn't care less, my mum knows about it and she doesn't mind it either.

nothingmore

my mum only says "dont buy that many cds"
once she asked me if i wanna open my own cd store cuz im buying always cds and stuff lol
well my father seems to enjoy metal im listening to at home he always says "sounds good BUT the vocals are too grunting"
and well he listens to alice cooper and led zeppelin and classical music and jazz and that kinda stuff^^

whiteravenmetal

My mom hates Metal, but I don't care a shit, I am a Metalhead and I'm proud, now I guess that learned to live with it.

COTHRASHER

My moms a Christian freak, my dad however, well he WAS until i showed him some quality bands!

Phosphorous_Redeemer

My mom hated it at first, but i would always win her arguements. Now shes just glad im not a loser. She said it would be better for me to be a metalhead than a little emo FREAK who wears girl clothes like all the guys she would see everywhere.

Goddes of Desire

My Father listens to all the classic hardrock bands, and also metal. So he is fine with it. My mother doesn't care.

bls-georg-pantera

well what should i say....my parents got me into it LOL

the only thing my mom hates is grunts in metal lol and black metal[except venom and bathory]becouse she thinks black metal is just some noise which is true at some cases
for the rest well...she loves glam rock, heavy and thrash

and my dad...well he's the one who gets me patches, shirts, show tickets and his old stuff,i still got a dark angel tour shirt of 1991 and he said he still got one of metallica and nuclear assault for me...he also stil goes with me to festivals,i even went with him to wacken in 2008 and fucking sonisphere in poland just to see the big 4 :D too bad he is kinda bussy alot becouse of his job and stuff... but im going next year as he promised me to keep it true!!
and maybe also this year to killfest and D.R.I!!

cack

My mom introduced me to metal. Only it was because she made us watch these christian propaganda videos to try and scare us away from it. It worked for my sisters at first but after hearing song samples of Venom, Slayer, Possessed, and Anvil along with their album covers and video clips of Cronos smashing his bass around and King Diamond walking onto the stage all decked out I was hooked.

My dad was always secretly supportive because he is a drummer and he liked that it inspired me to pick up a bass and guitar.

HeavyTony

My dad is a big music fan and love some metal bands i've shown him like Opeth or Slough Feg. My mom don't care, she loves metal without screams like she says, i made burns of cds of Symphony X and other stuff, she loves it.
I guess i'm born in a pretty open family. My mom helped me to make my kutte, so she's supportive!

Rover133

My dad took me to my 1st show in 1980 - Ted Nugent, Scorpions, Def Leppard. Been hooked ever since. I'm 47 now and still cranking the metal and buying cd's, building kutte #2 and finishing kutte #1 (that I started last year)

CALGARYTHRASHER666

My mom didn't really care when I was still back in my classic rock/Slipknot obsession days, but one day when I came home with a Cannibal Corpse album to give metal a try, she took one look at the cover, and went FUCKING APESHIT. The sad part, was it was thje album "KILL." THe cover fucking sucks but the album name set her off. Then she took the lyric booklet out and she actually yelled her fucking head off. After about 5 hours of arguing, I finally convinced her that these lyrics are not going to motivate me to slaughter the whole family or some other wacked out shit like that and she gave me the CD and I started jamming it, and that would be how I got into true metal. It's been nearly 4 years since then.

Phosphorous_Redeemer

Ah, kill was my first corpse album too!

CALGARYTHRASHER666

It's a pretty stellar album. I don't know why people aways talk shit about it, haha.

Phosphorous_Redeemer

Cause its NEW. Everyone always only likes the first works of bands. I am like that with some, but definitely there are still excellent music coming from old bands.

CALGARYTHRASHER666

True. I can admit that the newer stuff will never compare to Barnes era, but it still kicks ass.

Rocket_Propelled_Gummi-bear

It never was a problem. My parents are tolerant of my stuff, specially since my dad listened to Led Zeppelin and Deep Purple back in the days.
Sometimes my mom tells me why I don't listen to something "happier" but, well, you know how moms are.

Plague

My mom first asked me if I was goth because almost all my tshirts are black. When i said, "No, i'm metal" she seemed more at ease.

slb1995

My parents have no problem with it.. My dad is actually quite a big fan of metal. The last couple of days we spent on a festival with artists like Slayer, Anthrax, Saxon, Soulfly, Gojira and Immortal, whom we both enjoyed.

COTHRASHER

update: I recently got my dad to start listening to Cannibal Corpse, i got him Torture and Eaten back to Life for fathers day!!!!

WolfHammer

My mom likes a few bands I listen, but she hates anything heavier then Slayer.

LeprosyWillTakeControl

lol my mom doesnt like anything heavier than nickleback hahaha

Plague

My mom doesn't like anything heavier than Neil Diamond... (gotta keep this going here. almost sounds like a "yo mamma" bit)

Blüdrayne

like...
'yo mama's ASS is heavier than neil diamond?
:D

Plague

yeah, and "yo mamma's so fat, she wears a parachute as a moo-moo" HA

Blüdrayne

lol i love reading these. get sick fast, but new ones are always around.

Thrash is my busines

I actualy started to listen metal because my father was always listenig motorhead, sepultura and stuff and my mom dont care she says"uhh, you like slayer?"

LaUlvenDrepe

My entire family hates my music, haha. It was tough when I was in my early adolescence (like years 13 to 15), everybody thought that it was going to lead me down the wrong path and crap like that.

Later though my mom (who raised me by herself) just kind of got used to it. Now, whenever I have people over they are subject to my vengeance via torturous thrash, death, and black metal!!!

SUFFER FOR YOUR CRIMES!!!!!!! Muaaahuhhahahahaha!

DeathFuckinMetal

My parents are fine with it, my mum doesn't mind ( whenever i go to gigs she tells me to be safe and don't do anything stupid). My dad hates it and if i have the music too loud in my room to turn it down, my dad also thinks that one day i'll grow out of it (yeah right) AND he thinks that one day i will get sick of my long hair and cut it off ( which i can tell you is definately NOT going to happen). I absolutely love my hair and will never cut it. ATM it's about the same length as Doctor Deaths ( maybe a fraction longer) So yeah my parents don't mind as long as i don't end up taking it to the extreme and go and kill someone LOL.

meaningless

My parents dont care it at all :P Aslong im not a Alcoholica or into drugs ;) As i was younger, my Mom was hoping this 'Metal-thing' will be just a part of my life...
Well...now with 30+ she give up the hope ..and take it as it is..
Im a Metalhead for Life!

Blüdrayne

my mum's largely ok with it so long as i behave responsibly about it. like she always tells me to not get drunk or into fights when i go to gigs.
one thing she hates though, is that my entire wardrobe is full of black t shirts.
she always says they look exactly the same.

meaningless

the thing with the 'all black'..my mom said the same :P
but not about the artworks..lol :D
..my mom was 'loving' stuff like 'Butchered at birth' and stuff like this ;) hahahaha

Blüdrayne

wow, your mum's into metal too?
my mum's into some of the older stuff.
like the scorpions, deep purple...
creedence clearwater revival...
which i like too sometimes.

LaUlvenDrepe

Hahaha! Dude it's the exact same thing with my mom!

Sometimes I show her some new shirts, just for the hell of it and she can't even tell the difference from one shirt or the other. She says they are always black and white, and they just all look the same to her.

I guess mom's are the same all over the world huh? Haha.

PhantomLord666

My parents are totally ok with it. They don't mind me going to gigs as long as I'm safe and it doesn't impact my grades. My mum doesn't like the 'all black wardrobe' too. As for the music, my mum loves the album artwork. She will often ask me to play her a bit of my music. She loves rock anyway (went with her to see Deep Purple!), but I found that she loved Anthrax and Vio-lence and liked Slayer and Kreator! As for my dad, he will very keenly listen to my music. He said he actually prefers stuff like Autopsy, Bolt Thrower or Darkthrone! Overall, they're really cool with what I listen too and try their best to accept and understand it :) To think of it, I'm kind of lucky.

666filipino

its weird for me. my moms side thinks im some crazy angel dust smoking demon. they hate my music and my clothing , grandma and grandpa think im some stoner cause i have dreads . my mom dosnt realy care and her boyfriend suports my metal(hes a oldschool metalhead). my dads side is the religious side of the family. its weird cause they dont mind. im alowed to play my music loud and wear whatever i want when im around them.

IronMason

My parents are very supportive.
They know that music is my life, I would never dream of putting something like Autopsy or Pestilence in the CD player in our car, Last time we went shopping I put in "Among the Living" and she said "Hey, I can understand what they're saying!!!"

As for my Dad, Well we're seeing Maiden together for the second time this summer. So that's just a hint of how awesome he is!! :D

IronMason

HAHAHA.I read this now, they found out I drink and they sold my tickets!!!!!! GRRRRRRRRRRRR.

I still love them like crazy but C'MON!!!!!!!!

ManOboy

my parents, after so many years of me being the person i am, they got used to it, but some of my cousins (on my dads side) see me as and i quote "emo" -.-"

Metal_James

My mom doesn't really care. Her tastes are pretty varied, though nothing really heavy. She told me once that for the nine months she was pregnant with me she listened to nothing but Metallica.

slayerordie

my mom hates death metal and most shit that sings of the devil and she says death is more satanic than slayer lol

Damnatör

My dad brought me to metal, so he likes it too, but my mother hates it. ;D

gloriousdeath

my parents didn't understand the music, but always have been supportive because of the creative side of it: my dad drove me around quite a lot to rehearsal places with my equipment and guitars.. they also liked it when we were doing a fanzine in the early 90's and a radio-program later on. About the anti- establishment attitude: they thought it was naif, but seemed to understand i was shaping my ideas about the world around me.....which is better as a braindead disco-popper without any clue or attention

VoodooChild

You had a radio program? Awesome.

gloriousdeath

it was short-lived thing. It was a internet radiosender called Odeon Radio with all kinds of music, i did just 2 hours a week but it was live/ real-time broadcast so that was cool. Problems with Buma Stemra put an end to it...

VoodooChild

Aaaargh. That sucks but what did you do in youre 2 hours??? Talk about metal play metal?

gloriousdeath

well play as much cool tracks as possible... no nonsense talking just info that people need like upcoming concerts, new releases etc. It was called Zwarte Zondag, always started with Black Sabbath- Black Sabbath as opening tune and ended with a Sabbath track, inbetween a block 70's hardrock, Nwobhm etc, then a block thrash, death etc. and a block demos, local bands.... it was fun, too bad it went nowhere

VoodooChild

Yeah that's too bad if you ask me. Radio will die in a couple of decades I think. People these day don't want others to decide what they listnen too. Just download 50000 songs and put iTunes on shuffle.

Ironhead

I don't want other people to decide what I listen to either. I just listen to my vinyls at home, CD's in car and that's it. No radio, thanks. The kind of show gloriousdeath described is nowhere to be heard anymore, at least not here so I rather not listen to all the shit on the radio just to hear something. I can enjoy quietness more.

lambofgodfan00

My parents raised me on classic rock and early metal, so I think says a lot about their attitude towards it. They don't really like the real screamed/rough vocals, but they like some of it that I've played around them. They were just a tiny bit concerned at first, but they're not bothered by it. They support me in it.

Nordgreen

They don't have a problem, even though they don't like the music. My mom ask me often when i'm going to cut my hair and she doesn't like my kutte at all.
I play drums, guitar and listen to metal pretty loud every day, so i can't complain at all.
They support me when i play gigs with my band as well!

Hárbarðr

Same here, they don't have a problem but mostly don't like th music. And my mom does the same thing, "so, when are you gonna cut your hair?" haha.

finlandiavodka

My parents listen to Heavy Metal. Whether the want or not! The same with my neighbours! ^^

Tankard Emptyer

+1

And I have to add: Every time I'm driving my friends anywhere, they have no other choice than listening to metal. ^^

BestialDevastation

At first, my mom didn't care about me listening to metal. That is until I brought home a Venom Black Metal shirt. Woooooo how crazy my mom got. My dad didn't give 2 fucks. He just agreed to my mom so she won't get mad at him xD but damn. She took it away and threw it to the trash and told me she was gonna start taking me to church. Luckily, I got her to hear me out. Told her it's just a band shirt. I'm not worshiping the devil. I'm not doing bad shit. So, she calmed down and said alright and I retrieved my shirt from the trash can. Since then, it's all good. They now say that this is better than being a cholito running around tagging up buildings and doing drugs. Though, she still thinks it's a faze.

metalhead667

my mum always says ''do i have to wash that disgusting goat head again?i hate that shirt''

Oby Machado

my mom washes my hellhammer satanic t-shirts, i love her :3

Evilution E5150

my parents dont care, they are into all different tpes of music themselves so theyre not really worried about satan or crap like that, plus mum grew up on sabbath and zeppelin so there is that too

Tico Tyrant

I've always been into a wide genre of music and still am, hence I refuse to label myself a 'metal head'. Initially my mom was ok with my heavier rock/metal interests....but after a while, she had become aware of some of my other more intense tastes.

I've made moves and come forward about some of my views on the world and some of the things I learn from certain genres, such as black metal. However, I've never allowed music to dictate how I view the world completely...and I ascend in this life by learning from real experiences.

She's not particularily fond of my metal tastes, but knows I also have other interesting music tastes....
my Uncle and Auntie don't like my tastes, so I try to not bring up those things as topics when I visit them. My step sister refuses to talk with me, as we've had some debates that also relate to my views on the world....which she, like some others in my family, blame on my music tastes.

My birth family( I'm adopted) are very much against many of my music tastes, metal, or otherwise....they are extremely religious and use the cancer of theism to try and guilt trip me. I can only say I still have support from my birth mother and brothers and 1 of my birth sisters....some people in my bloodline have cut off communication for me, despite the fact I carry myself in a respectful and caring manner....

I blame religion for warping their minds, but it's difficult.

Other than that, most people in my extended family don't give a fuck about what I listen to, whether it's rap, metal, electronic, house, etc....they'd rather know I'm interested in music than being a loser in life.....I work, pay bills....going to move out again, etc...so they could give a flying fuck about my music tastes....

I will say though, black metal, extreme metal, views on the world that aren't all 'kumbaya' all the time...these things can really fuck over family relations, which sucks....it's not possible to please everyone though, so I think we as music fans just have to stay true to ourselves and do the best for our own good....never compromising.

truiu

Both of my parents listen to the classic metal and hard rock bands, so they got no problem with it.

TThrasher

I don't have any problems. My dad used to listen to Saxon and Priest. My mom was into pop metal back in the 80's and even now she listens to Priest. I introduced her to Dio and she loves his music!

Necrosathanas

My mother is into the old stuff like Scorpions, CCR, Deep Purple, Whitesnake, Alice Cooper, Sabbath, Maiden and so on.. She's never forced her tastes on me, but showed me some essential bands when I first got into the music.

Only thing she thinks is negative that I keep spending too much of my money on metal-related stuff.

kertalaaki

I can relate so much on that "Only thing she thinks is negative that I keep spending too much of my money on metal-related stuff." phrase. :P

ManOboy

my mom allways gives me shit cause she associates it all with the devil, but i usually shrug and say "whatever" it is what it is, im not going to sugar coat it ahaha. but my parents are pretty cool with supporting me with it.

Stiopa

Dad was some kind of metalhead, WAS because now he listens mostly to oldschool rock and Metallica and Sabbath is the most metal what he listens to for now.

Mum - old poppy-rocky songs, mainly don't give a fuck about my music, MAINLY...

PowerThrashingDeath

My mom keeps asking if she can wash my patchjacket, I can always laugh about it :P

My dad is into hardrock so he doesn't mind it at all, he also travels along every time to see our band perform, he loves it!

DrkKnight

After raiding my parents' record collections at a VERY early age and finding music from the 50's to the 60's all-encompassing, it was a natural progression for me by the mid-70's and a wee lad. My parents have never gotten my music, but they never censored anything I listened to. A good amount of the savvy and intellect I enjoy today is a direct result of the music I grew up on, as it forced a cathartic opening of new things that I was able to follow. To this day my mom can identify certain bands, especially Sabbath or Ozzy, that she's heard a million times in 35-years of music. I was extremely fortunate in that regard.

MetalliDeth95

My mom pretty much hates what I wear and what I listen to (giving me the 'Why cant you be more like this? *points to guy looking like he just came out of abercrombie and fitch*) but she doesnt ban anything or anything like that, she just doesnt like it, but she supports me being more into music than something like drugs or whatever. But shes thankful I'm not one of those faggots wearing snapbacks. My dad supports it. He thinks it's great im into it and hes basically like "oh okay. whatever makes you happy".

Tico Tyrant

As long as you stay true to yourself, like what you like...we can never always please our parents...I don't think..

Side Nitpick: ----> Not all people who wear snap backs are 'faggots', it's a hat fashion stemmed from baseball and I own many pairs, so do a lot of thrashers I know and I know a few lead singers who own one...it's just that recent waves of 'swag' people tend to wear them, simply because they are a snap-back.
I wear em a lot because my head is large and it's nice to have an adjustable clip :p

Mental-Vortex

My mom often gets moody when my music is 'too loud' and is convinced that it's a phase that will end within a few years. But apart from that, she doesn't REALLY disrespect my taste, but still she thinks I spend too much money on metal-related stuff. She dislikes most music I listen to,but there are exceptions, like (surprisingly) Toxic Holocaust!

My dad doesn't really mind my musical taste,as long as I'm happy with it. But recently I discovered that he actually likes some stoner/doom and drone,at least I heard some positive opinions when I was listening. Yeah,my mom also doesn't really mind stoner, but they've both been smokers back in the day..

micHELLe

yeah my mum is supportive but still thinks its a phase too... boy will they be surprised when we're all 80 and still rocking out haha

kertalaaki

I have never had any problems with my parents and my musical tastes because my dad and mom are huge Scorpions fans, and they also listen pre-metal bands like Deep Purple and Led Zeppelin. Though my dad doesn't like Death Metal at all but my mom doesn't care. Actually they have never said that my interest in metal is a phase which evetually stops when I get older. I guess it's like that because they still like the music they used to listen when they were younger...

Lars248

My parents go with me and brother to Wacken next year! Kinda says enough.

Lizard

My mother never had a problem with long hairs and rock/metal - actually I listened to it already as a child and no problems with it.

She loves with her 54 years Black Metal is unable to undestand why this is called extrem metal 'cause 'it sounds so nice and you can relax to it'. She rather keeps some of my CDs when showing them her then getting mad. XD

Thrashocutionist

My dad has no grasp of what metal is. He always curses me for what's on metal shirts, whats on my vest and how I like to have my hair down rather then in a pony tail. Last night he told me I need to burn my vest and for the past year or so he's called me Charlie Manson (In public too) because I have long hair and sometimes I grow beards. Tells me people are going to end up killing me because of metal.

WarAndPain

Neither of them actually know what I listen to, if their recommending me bands like Avenged Sevenfold is any indication!
After a long while of getting worried when I enjoyed any film with the slightest bit of violence in it, I think my mum has either given up or reasoned that I'm old enough to not get negatively influenced by it. If she were to actually look through my CD collection, however, she would probably send me to a therapist. XDD My dad never really seemed to care.
I don't really have any particularly shocking shirts (I think the most violent is my Gama Bomb - Citizen Brain one, and my mum was amused by some of the reactions it got when we were out together). I got asked once if I was a Satanist, but they seem otherwise to have no problem with inverted crosses, 666es and shirts reading 'De Mysteriis Dom Sathanas'.
Over the years, I think my parents have come to accept that this is very unlikely to be a 'phase'. My mum's told me that she's actually pleased that I'm doing my own thing and sticking to it, and she's even said that I look nice in my kutte+leather jacket.
The best thing, though, happened about a month ago:
"That denim vest really makes you happy, doesn't it?"

Yes. Yes, Mum: as an expression of myself, it does.

(I still dread the day she decides to dust my CDs or something, though.)

biteyourself

My father liked Priest, Queen, Scorpions, Metallica, that's all I have going for me. He doesn't dig the death metal as much. Rest of the family doesn't give a shit.

gambinaviina

Well, My dad listen's 80's Metal and Mom listen's New Wave. Sometimes my parents complains to me that i play music too loud or playing a guitar too loud. They don't actually care about my long hair.

micHELLe

I don't think mine have a problem, they just tell me I look extremely 80's all the time haha Also got my dad back into the traditional heavy metal stuff which is cool :)

janbant

My parents don't mind it. Sometimes my mom just gets scared or shocked when she sees/ hears what I listen to :P. I would have to hide certain things from her though. As long as I'm living with my parents, things like Dying Fetus, Zyklon B and stuff she finds offensive won't be added to my collection. I thank my parents for my taste in music! They allowed me to listen to it, tons of parents don't allow kids to freely develop their own taste and opinion. And I can't put the radio TOO loud when they're around, hehe

gizter

my parents encouraged me to develop me on taste and opinions, they are sad that my brother doesn't. when someones says they dont like a shirt hes wearing, he wont ever wear it again, and those things are quite expensive too. he even has a 120 euro nickelson jacket he only wore once.
still my parents dont like my tastes, but they accept it.
your parents realy get offended by band names? mine dont even look at that.

janbant

Sucks that your brother is like that... Some people get affected more easily by opinions than other people. Well, my dad doesn't really give a shit but doesn't like swastika's haha. My mom -being a nurse and having seen a lot of fucked up shit- hates the name Dying Fetus. Although I don't listen to it, my brother does. And they had some discussions about that band. I showed her a video of a love performance of GG Allin once which really shocked her. If they would know what kind of music I listen to, they wouldn't like it I guess, but they wouldn't take it away from me because they know it means a lot to me. Maybe funny to tell you: I put 'Human = garbage' by Dystopia on speaker once and my mom got shocked by the beginning of Stress build character, haha. She said that the singer should look for psychiatric help and shit. I even read the lyrics to her :P

gizter

first part of stress builds character has some of the best vocals i ever heard, dont think my parents would realy like the lyrics of most of the songs i listen to ether.

my mom didn't like ''what a wonderful world'' by ghoul (parody of an elvis song), she said they ruined a great classic.

gizter

i'm sorry, i'm an idiot. it is a Louis Armstrong parody

janbant

Stress builds character is indeed a really amazing track and really sick vocals. Personally, I find metal covers of non - metal songs hilarious!

Croby

dad says nothing, he understands, but mom is like: "why do you spend so much money on cd's, t-shirts and concerts?" - but I love her anyway haha :D

AbysmalWind

Well, not exactly parents, but I remember I once arrived home and saw my 3 year old nephew wearing a vest of mine (of course he looked like he was struggling inside an enormous drape hahaha).

VoodooChild

My christian mother hates it but doesn't say anything about it and washes my clothes with inverted pentagrams/crosses and whatelse for me without complains, and my dad took me too my first Maiden gig though he doesn't like metal at all though has an strange love for Paradise lost. He says it reminds him of the Cure. He only listnens to that band and to Lamb Of God for the reason he find theyre playing style nice and they play exactly the same amp as him, though he admits he hates the singing and drums. Other family like an aunt For example really really hates it and has asked my dad: Why do you allow this? It's dangerous! And he always is like: Let him do what the fuck he wants and when he has fun he has fun. My long hair has made me my grandma's favourite granddaughter though.... That's how my Metal effects my family!!!

PutridStench

Hum...I spent my teenage days in Lourdes, and even saw Jean-Paul II, hahaha! My parents are atheist, so they did'nt care about me listenig to metal. Now it's been 8 years I left this town, but how fun it was, driving fast among the pilgrims, playing Grave loud in the car!!!

Ravishing Grimness

Got in Rock/Metal through my dad in 1st place listening to Motorheads 'Iron Fist'at first at age of 5 or 6,can't remember. And same thing with Maiden,at same period.

My parents were deadheads/hard rockers when I was really young, so they pretty much set me up with the basics and I got into metal from there, but my dad's into some heavier stuff now and my mom still likes stuff like zeppelin and sabbath
