As is the manga Lone Wolf and Cub.

Some of my favorite comics would have to be the Hellboy series. I got 'em all on graphic novel format.
cambotero on
the walking dead, I read those comics 2 or 3 years before they make that shity show on TV it's full of mistakes. many WWII comics and belic ones, Ultimates and Spawn, lots of Spawn. :3
kertalaaki on
It might be full of mistakes but damn I love that show!
cambotero on
yeah it's ok if don't compare the comic and the TV show
kertalaaki on
yep. I'm not comparing them.. For example Stanley Kubrick's Clockwork Orange movie and the actual book had differences, but I love both. I don't like the movie as much as I used to like, because of the differences with the book. (I read the book afterwards.) Still I think it is magnificent movie.
cambotero on
yeah that is i was talkin about! :D
Ironhead on
I read the book before watched the film and liked the ending of the movie more because it impends a violent future, unlike the book.

I never really kept up with a single comic series, but I had a few Alien, Predator, and some others. Although not a comic, I did keep track of one manga in particular; Mobile Suit Gundam: Ecole du Ciel. Then I stopped after about volume 9, which took several years to get to. But that was the only thing I followed for a while. I'm not even into anime, other than the good old stuff that was on in the 90s I guess.

without a fucking shadow of doubt, THE WATCHMEN, one of my favorite things, also like X-Men and others

So many...I love comics and graphic novels almost as much as black metal...well..metal in general!
Here are some of my top picks, but I can't make a full list because it would never end! I own quite a few comics and graphic novels, so this was a cool question for the forums!
The Sandman(comics and especially the graphic novel version of "Endless Nights")
V for Vendetta
DC comics-examples: Justice League of America;Batman(especially recent Andy Kubert editions, his artwork is great!) but basically all Batman, also some of the best villains come with the Batman series, such as:two face, mr zsasz, the joker, hush, harley quinn, bane, the scarecrow, etc!; Fables(in part by vertigo) just a really cool series; Flash; Secret Six(some of DC's best work along with Gail Simone)
Action Comics(the newer revamp by Paul Cornell and Pete Woods)
Star Wars-Crimson Empire,Tales of the Jedi, The Bounty Hunters, The Dark Times, etc!
Hellboy
Anything created in part by Dark Horse, Top Cow or Todd McFarlane: Spawn, The Darkness(fucking wicked series, demonic entities, lot's of art style, gore, blood, etc!), Witchblade(women and violnece, wooo!), Tomb Raider, Army of Darkness, Creatures of the Night, Kingdom of the Wicked, Ghost in the Shell(anime but under the production of american labels as well, so there are different versions), Terminator, Kin, Arcanum(very short but wicked series), etc
Tank Girl(Jamie Hewlett's art is pretty cool, most people know his character style from the group called "Gorillaz")
Faust(really gory and mind bending)
30 Days of night- limited comics and the graphic novel(just really true vampire art...no pussy twilight bullcrap, the vampires from this series would fuck you up if it were real, I also recommend the move version as well)
Most Marvel comics!( so many awesome villains from these comics, I don't even have time to write about all the marvel comics, the heroes, the stores and how insane the villains are)quick examples-Spiderman:Kraven's Last Hunt, Spiderman, Eternals, X Men, Astonishing X Men, Powers, Ultimate's series, The Incredible Hulk,Daredevil,Civil War, etc!
Battle Chasers(Madureira and J Scott Campbell lead series, I really recommend it for anyone who likes a mix of fantasy, magic, gore and pictures of over the top busty women bahahaha)
Black Metal(yes this is not a joke!) Chuck BB won the 2008 Special Recognition Eisner Award for his work on this title.
In the graphic representation of the PMRC's worst nightmare, two teenage misfits play a record backwards, open a portal to Hell, claim the sword of a fallen demon, and do battle with the hordes of the pit to claim their rightful spot alongside Satan. Without question, the most metal story that could be written without just illustrating Manowar lyrics.
HellBlazer(DC/Vertigo) a long running series full of twists, horror and vicious gore
Blade of the Immortal
From Hell
Mobile Suit:Gundam Wing
Yu Yu Hakusho
Uzumaki by Juni Ito(just an unsettling and disturbing short series)
Baka(Tajuujinkaku Tantei Psycho) series and movie
Hellsing

Fuck Battle Chasers it always shipped late and was delayed almost a year between issue at one time plus Madureira never finished the story. I remember when that , Danger Girl, and Crimson where the "it" titles.Crimson was the only one that ever shipped on time and had a decent run.
Tico Tyrant on
Oh!...Well I had no clue, I just gathered a bunch of em at a book store, so they seemed great, that's why I recommended em! Still, the artwork is quite excellent...that's pretty much what drew me in. I know Madureira has a tendency to stall on certain ideas....

I read quite a bit of comics while in middle school, at that time I was collecting the Metal Gear Solid comics. Nowadays I commonly read mangas by recommendations from friends, I recently started reading Tuxedo Gin, Bobobo, and trying to finish up on Vinland Saga.
Not much into comic's but Faust and Eo were fukken great.

Dark Horse's ongoing CONAN series of graphic novels/stories. The early volumes by Kurt Busiek and Cary Nord were fucking glorious!!! "Born on the Battlefield", "Frost Giant's Daughter", and "House of the Dead" are my favorites from this line.
Once-Marvel and now Dark Horse reprint of the SAVAGE SWORD OF CONAN series from the 70s and 80s. Pulpy, oversize black-and-white pages dripping with blood and glory. Savage is correct!
I only hope someone gathers enough guts and brains to make a Bran Mak Morn comic series, or republish the old graphic stories from those earlier decades. Another intense and intensely underrated Robert E. Howard character.
Also, I dig the "Northlanders" series, about viking age. Not heroic or idealistic though, but gritty, violent, and dark shit. Totally recommended, go preview some pages on Amazon and it'll hook you.

yeah, love the old CONAN THE BARBARIAN comics, they are awesome

Its a very underground comic-company called "Avatar Press" which also does "A Nightmare On Elm Street" and "The Texas Chainsaw Massacre" Comics. I've got "Jason Vs. Jason X, Friday The 13th Bloodbath, Halloween: Autopsis(Paranormal Pictures Comics)and Texas Chainsaw Massacre.
Amazing comics! You should totally pick some up!

I haven't been into comics for very long, but I started getting into reading some. My favorites are the walking dead, Conan the dark horse series, Jonah hex and Turok. The old Turok comics are hard to find. Superheroes kind of bored me, I like stuff that's more realistic. Super powers are cool, I just can't get into superhero comics for some reason.

"The Walking Dead" is pretty sweet. Read every issue (over 100). Also tried the TV series, but I wasn't even able to watch the pilot.
PROTIP: Screw the TV show - read the comics!
"The Crossed" - pure brutality, sweet (sick) illustration, the stories are not on the same level as TWD, but it is def worth reading! Add DM for extra atmosphere.
"The Boys" seems nice as well, haven't read many issues yet.
"Alice in Never Ever" - ...for your peen.
"Deadpool" - needs no explanation
"Spawn" <<< never read the comics, but the animated TV series is sweet! It's for adults. No kids show.
"Locke & Key" - right now reading it. Seems good so far...

Warren Ellis' Transmetropolitan. Just one of the most original, funniest and politically scathing comic runs ever.
Garth Ennis' Preacher. Also Hitman and The Boys. Really, anything by Garth Ennis at all.
Neil Gaiman's Sandman series.
