I live in a rather small town, although the 3rd biggest in Denmark, so I am not familiar with that many bands from here, but Encyrcle play some excellent speed metal which Fenriz had in his Band of the Week-thing:
That's about all I can think of. It's a shame that the metal scene here has kinda died down since 2010 when Lazarus got their record deal with Metal Blade.
Edit: And the one-man-band Putrid Pile is from the next city over as well.
I am from NRW (Nordrhein Westfalen), Germany, and if i think about it i could quite probably say, that Attic and Ketzer are among my favourite Bands, and they live not too far from my hometown. Also Sulphur Aeon residenot that far away.
I'm going to see them July 8, they're getting back together after ten years to play two shows, one here in Calgary and one a couple hours north in their home town of Edmonton. I am very, very excited.
Yep! Svolder actually moved out to my neck of the woods a while ago too, if memory serves. I'm also going to see Mystifier this coming Friday, which is going to be awesome.
Great! Svolder is one of the best Bands to come out in the past time. Especially because of the wonderful politically incorrect approach to extreme music.

The album cover for the LP was incredible, and their stage names are some of the best I've seen. Rotting Christ would be cool to see, but only the first few albums.
Wouldnt call it "local" but, Midnight Priest is my fav portuguese band by far. They play Heavy Metal with a range of influences that goes from Mercyful Fate, Grim Reaper to the likes of Judas Priest or Riot.
Hardly any local bands worth listening to near me. The two exceptions are bands that broke up over a decade ago, Fog and Garden of Shadows. I recommend them to everybody, they're local diamonds in the ruff.
Theres quite a few locally, but my favorite three right now, for a combination of their music and live shows are Lagerstein, Malakyte and Decapitated Mum. All of which are my friends and with dmum I went as far as designing their new logo.

I was standing next to Captain Gregarrr after their set for Alestorm last year and Chris was so far gone he ran up on stage and did vocals for Rum from memory.
