I don't know if you know the existence of this thing, it's a one-man NSBM proyect called Jewicide. Superunknown and crappy, it will take you to a world of soda can drums and Casio keyboards. YES, THERE'S A GUITAR.

Rotten said: Thanx dude ... Even this lay out has changed slightly. And it will probably change once again. I have a lot of patches to choose from :) No, no front just yet. None of these patches in the pic are sewn on - I only sewed the back patch on last night. And im still waiting on a few patches to arrive in the mail. This will take a while to put together because ill only get to work on it when I have some spare time.

oh yeah I remember these guys just from the logo..... listening to it now not really impressed. quite stupid
wow, that was fucking terrible, so my list of worst black metal bands now reads:(in order from worst to least worst)
1.Jewicide
2.Nargoroth
3.Peste Noire
4.Der Sturmer
How can you not like Nargaroth?
BM ist krieg was shit though.
i loathe Kanwulf as a human being
Me too. His music is tnbm cloning to me.
I think Peste Noire is very experimental at times, but it's still pretty top notch Black Metal, especially songs like "Le Mort Joyeux" ...well....maybe not the latest album. I only really like 2 Nargaroth albums,"Geliebte des Regens" and "Jahreszeiten" but I'd take them over Der Sturmer any day......Kanwulf is a little bit weird though.
I would say another really crappy black metal band, quite easily goes to "The Kovenant"(or Covenant) whoever the fuck they are. Someone posted their music in a black metal group I'm in. They put it under my post from Inquisition and said they thought it was better and I just about reached through the screen and decapitated them. The Kovenant's first album was decent, at an attempt to convey a similar type of atmosphere to early era Emperor...but everything after that became one big giant pile of symphonic crap. I don't mind melodic elements in black metal, but bands that put too much symphonic things in their music, or over use synth end up just sounding like Dimmu Borgir clones. This band is lower than dirt on the bottom of my shoe.
I'm not too fond of :
-Gaahl era Gorgorth. No I do not care if he's homosexual, I just think the guy is a shitty vocalist. I don't even really like Gorgorth, but pest's work is far superior.
-Naglfar: Not really sure why, but their sound is just not for me, it might not be that they are a horrible band, but I just don't like anything they've made.
I would recommend the song "blades." from Diabolic album. if still no, then you wont like them at all.
i like Naglfar, mainly because ive come along to prefer a more melodic bm sound then the raw under produced sound alot of bands have been raping to death
Ive never dug Peste Noire that much, overall im not a huge fan of the French scene, the only band i really like is Vlad Tepes, Ad Hominem are musically decent, but i only dig two of their albums.
Der Strumer is great imo. I'm not a huge fan of Nargaroth (almost at all actually), but I am curious why there is such a hatred towards Nargaroth and the man behind the project?
Der Strumer are listenable, i dont like them that much, but they are the best of the worst lol. I think a few of their riffs are cool bm riffs, like Heathen Terrormachine, but imo they come off as an RAC band trying to look like an NSBM band if that makes any sense.
I know what you mean about the RAC coming off as BM.
Dude, it sad for me to see Peste Noire in your list. It's just genious band!
can i count all BM bands as 'worst' ? lol
i think there are just 5 bands where my ears dont starts to bleed when i hear it..lol
To each their own,I respect right to personal taste! However, if you only have 5 Black Metal bands that "don't make you ears bleed" you really haven't discovered enough variety of bands within the genre or haven't made an effort to.
+1 To tell the truth, I used to think Black Metal was shit, then i opened my mind! haha
What are these 5 bands? I agree, if you say only 5 bands you need to check out some GOOD black metal or just give up.
+1 Exactly what I was getting at!
-1 To me, for continuing to waste my time on this thread(albeit an interesting one and about music I love) but I need to eat....I didn't even have breakfast today. I just came home and posted on t shirt slayer non stop....haha
der sturmer
i cant believed i actually clicked on it....
Nargaroth, and pretty much every depressive black metal band out there. No disrespect to any of it's fans, but to me it's just a fucking cop-out. Strumming a few strings very slowly, while screaming over and over again over a boring drum pace is not music. It's agonizing and painful how many people like this. Also, most modern black metal bands are just ripping off Transilvanian Hunger anyway. I don't even mean it's lo-fi quality, I love that. What I mean is they just take the sound, the basic tremolo picked riffs and try to out-do Darkthrone by trying to make it even more primitive. They are basically going the wrong way. STOP repeating and try to reinvent damn it! A good example of a proper lo-fi album that took the Transilvanian Hunger sound and actually did something unique with it was Ulver's Nattens Madrigal. By the way, before anybody critizes black metal is my favorite genre. It's more than metal, and more than music to me.
I get what you are saying, but I respectfully disagree.
Not all black metal has to be blast beats, whirlwind guitars and typical vocals in the vein of destruction fueled chaos.Neither do all bands of today(or at least recent times) sound like early era black metal from the first wave.
Some bands in black metal that get dubbed "depressive" don't actually make me feel depressed, or even sound "depressing", even if the song is about suicide, death, torture, etc... instead I feel a powerful reflection of a much more raw internal sense, hinting towards nihilism and isolation, which are both concepts that can be embraced by satanism and other roots within black metal. Bands that effectively mix this along with other satanic concepts and typical black metal roots, while embracing anti humanity and expression ideas of nature, are also great at providing a near transcendental enshrouding experience. These bands convey the message of a carnal reality that is somewhat controversial, and that reality is that humans must view the world in the most torn down, cold light it can be shown in, while still adhering to the reality of human emotion and humanities existence. Music from these kinds of bands are not war like hatred and misanthropy, terror, etc like other black metal bands, no, bands like these are the flip side of the same coin where we must take a step back and consider things in a different way. I think it's a different kind of craft and a odd take on black metal, but it's still a very valid art form and expression of thought. I think that's why a lot of people are drawn to bands such as those.
Sadness or isolation is sometimes something that can just go hand in hand with being reflective and alone, but not necessarily "done with life"...in fact distance and suffering can actually empower the mind to a certain degree as it allows us to see things for what they truly might be(not all the time, but perhaps in certain situations). So, for these kinds of black metal bands, what I tend to hear is so beautiful, so mellow, so perfect, despite the fact that it is comprised of lower production standards and similar vocals. It might not be similar to Transilvanian Hunger's approach, but it by no means mean they are clones. It is still dark, it is still nihilistic and yet it is poetry made sound.
For example, groups often dubbed as "depressive",such as "Strid", "Striborg" or "Drowning the Light" tend to push the bar and really give a new sort of sound. There's some still identifiable riff work, pace of drumming and shift in tone. They have their own identity.
That all being said, the vast majority of black metal bands that fall into that category do tend to sound similar. I'm not that big into "depressive black metal" but I think there are a few that really have some great unique work.(like the ones I mentioned)
As for most modern black metal bands ripping off "Transilvanian Hunger" I'm sure many are inspired from it and take influence from it, but then many bands are also taking inspiration from: Sarcófago, Dissection, Venom, Bathory, Blasphemy, Burzum, etc. Black Metal has no constant stagnation, therefore there is no reason to believe one band's album, is the core influence of many to follow.
I find there is a balance of black metal groups in this era that are lo fi production but there are also some that are the complete opposite but still manage to convey their own unique identity and sound, unlike bands of the past to present, such as Dark Throne:
Bands that would be good examples of having a clear difference from early era Norwegian black metal and Dark Throne,(some have been around for a while, some are newer) I suppose are:
Drudkh
Summoning
Graveland
Inquisition
Judas Iscariot
Peste Noire
Sargeist
Satanic Warmaster
Watain
Abigor
Black Witchery
Well....I've lost my train of thought, so all I will say is this:quote(you) "before anybody critizes black metal is my favorite genre. It's more than metal, and more than music to me."
I couldn't agree more! Just sharing my thoughts as well, I think black metal is a great message and I think it's a valid metal form, it's unfortunate some people don't see it as such.
It's ok man, we can't all agree on everything I suppose, right? I may have expressed myself a little "off" in my comment. I mean, sure... depressive black metal bores ME to death, but I'm not the only person on the planet. To each his own. And don't get me wrong, I like slower paced metal just as well, but for some reason not in black metal. I don't have to hear a constant blastbeat, hell, I prefer when they get creative, but just with attitude in the music. Believe me, I've TRIED time and time again to get into the slower BM, but I just don't like it. I agree with isolation sometimes being helpful, and I myself have suffered from depression for many many years, but I just don't like it in BM form.
Of course, I know not ALL bands rip off Transilvanian Hunger, I just meant most of the modern ones I've heard. That's not to say that there aren't good modern bands either. I love Watain, Satanic Warmaster, the first three Taake albums are classics to me, 1349 is pretty good, Blodsrit, Diabolical Masquerade, Koldbrann, Krypt, Tsjuder, Orcustus, Quintessence, Occvlta, and more that I forget.
I hope this clears this up. It's good to see someone cool enough to respect and admire black metal as much as I. \\m//
I definitely know what you mean!. Just conveying thoughts and sharing and it's great to see someone who takes my response but still sticks to their idea and doesn't call me "elitist" haha or something stupid like that. So, a mighty horns salute to you! \m/
Curious though, I really haven't had a good chance to listen to Blodsrit or Tsjuder(I'm more familiar with Krypt), what would be a prime album from each one of those groups that you would say exemplify their work. Lately I've been listening to many bands from Finland.
Sure man, I'll help you out. I like all Blodsrit albums to be honest, but Helveteshymner is their masterpiece! I have it both on CD and on vinyl. I don't know if you are into that sort of thing, but on vinyl it just sounds so much more fuzzy and rotten, deep tones, you know? Amazing album. For Tsjuder the second album is good, but the third "Desert Northern Hell" (strange name) is what I would call their best. They also have a DVD, they play well live, but in my opinion it is visually lacking.
It's basically a bunch of camera shaking, and the same boring set for the entire show. I believe the bassist of Carpathian Forest makes an appearance for one song too.
Oh, excellent! I was checking out a few of the tracks from Helveteshymner and it's wicked. Personally I do love LP's as well, but they are hard to get and rather expensive, but next to CD's LP's are my top favorite format. I'll be looking over Desert Northern Hell next chance I get.
Ohhh! I can't believe I forgot this band. Check out an American black metal band called Negative Plane if you haven't done so already. They are a modern band with a similar black metal sound, yet it is unlike ANYTHING I have ever heard before. I have their second album on vinyl. I'm having a really hard time finding their first (on vinyl, haha).
By the way that Jewicide shit was painfully laughable! Hahaha, that's seriously the worst black metal I've ever heard.
Going by bands ive seen live, its new mayhem and teratism. I dont like burzum, or nargaroth much either. The rest depends on the definition of "black metal." Abigail Williams are a bunch of idiots who think wearing leather makes them kvlt, and their gay music blows, but i dont consider them black metal.
Abigail Williams comes to every fucking black metal related show in my city, it's painfully annoying when there are better local groups here. I seriously don't like their music. They are a farce unto the world of black metal, but then, like you said..it's really not accurate to call them "black metal"
I'm curious what my reaction will be to all the little glammy black metal kids when i see dark funeral with abigail williams. The other day i went to the mall cause my girlfriend was getting some stuff, and i saw a couple wearing belphegor shirts, and then i saw their lower halves and they were dressed like gothic fairies, i laughed so hard, and it made me feel sorry for belphegor. I can imagine seeing people like that in a moshpit...
Yes that pretty much does suck for Belphegor.I don't really make assumptions based on outer appearance, but some of these kinds are just predictable. Like for example : random hipster kid #106 who thinks he is very 'cult' because he is wearing a Mayhem shirt, or something like this.
The other day I saw someone in a Subway(as in the sandwich place) near me wearing a Dark Funeral shirt,so I said "hey man, wicked shirt"...then asked him if it was his favorite album(the shirt was Attera Totus Sanctus) but he acted so confused ...then he muttered something about it being black metal. So I have no clue if he really knew anything about the band or was just nervous for no reason.
So far with gigs that are related to either death metal, or black metal, here, there haven't been too many wankers showing up. However, with Aibgail Williams at any concert, there is bound to be a few people that fall under this kind of category.
For example, they will complain about the "pits being too violent" or they will start doing this stupid stomping dance and waving their arms around, not even appreciating the metal properly, something stupid like this. They will act confused when the good bands come on, but go berserk when Abigail Williams plays their shitty set.Usually I'm not "elitist" but when it comes to black metal or bands of the like, who mix black and death, or black and thrash etc...I can't stand people that obviously are in the wrong venue.
So then In my mind I think, if they act stupid or are annoying "ok I will take my boot and crush their skull in the name of Satan"......but of course I just do my best to ignore them. Like I said, for the most part, outer appearance means little to me, but some people are just predictably annoying if they follow those kinds of shitty bands that pretend to be "black metal" . Then if you disagree with their views or question their knowledge, you would get bitched at by em and called "elitist" or "kvlt stereotype"...I mean..it's just painful.
Judging people based on appearance is definitely up to the individual. I could say "Dont judge a book by its cover." But there are plenty of times where you CAN judge a book by its cover. And then there are times when youre talk to someone dressed like a metalhead, and it turns out they dont know shit about the most basic metal knowledge. Even when i was that age, I still didnt wear shirts of bands i didnt listen to or know. And that happens way too often with younger metalheads (and even older ones) these days.
out here in Holland I also see some Belphegor-faires every now and then, and I can't help but laugh a little about it. if I'm bored I'll walk up to them and ask them what album they like best, the answer ranges from *looks down at own shirt to read the title of that album* to "oh I only wear this shirt because it's satanic and it has tits on it and it'll piss off my parents". but one time one of these fairies actually knew what she was talking about and while she was wearing a Bondage Goat Zombie shirt here albums of choice were Blutsabbath and Necrodaemon Terrorsathan :)
personally, I love everything the band has done up to and including Pestapokalyspe VI, which is my favourite of their albums. everything after that is pretty much that same album but done in a very boring way. to me it sounds like they just should have called those albums Pestapokalypse VII, VIII and IX. but hey, that's just what happens when you sign your band to Nuclear Blast :)
haha "Belphegor fairies" is exactly what i would describe them as! Pestapokalypse is my favorite and first album by belphegor i ever got. I wanted to ask them if they knew shit, but while standing next to them, the girl picked up Emperor's "wrath of the tyrant" cd and says, "Emperor? ive never heard of them before."
The guy replies "You call yourself a black metaller, and you've never heard emperor? This cd has pretty much all their songs!"
That told me everything i needed to know...I turned away in shame and said "Fuck that." I'm glad i wasnt wearing one of my vests with a belphegor patch, cause if they would have approached me i would have made them cry.
Dude! I thought i was the only one so annoyed at this stupid ass band Abigail Williams! why is it that when every great BM band comes to town this metalcore band has to be opening for them???
I've seen them in videos, they don't look like they know what they are doing. But I really like some of their songs. A guilty pleasure of mine I guess. But fuck it, to each their own.
That band was awesome, some of the best BM i ever heard. I respect what this guy did, he put together an album on a shoe-string budget, made it comedically NSBM and with improvised instruments. This kid coulda went places.
If you guys like ultra lo-fi spead/blackmetal check out this song
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=otmMcqEO-eo
well celtic frost rules...anything else i cant really say
I think Trollkotze give them a serious run for their money.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tfgHWtafAMc
The thing is they could just be taking the piss, Jewicide seem serious about what they do.
fuck that was pretty good too. Sounded kinda like a Zappa tune.
the return of the son of monster magnet?
haha, yeah for sure.
It's not that bad. I really like what's going on with the drums. One of the later riffs doesn't interest me as much as the rest of the song though.
I don't see why so many bands would want to copy Transilvanian Hunger. I don't think that album is anywhere near Under a Funeral Moon.
This Striborg song beats the FUCKING SHIT out of that Jewicide one by the way:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4Ygsywdt0-g
I dig this one too, a project of Sin-Nanna of Striborg:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MXo2hNtkDcU
+1 about Under A Funeral Moon
Mandatory JWEICIDE!
anyone here ever heard Drown in Solitude? it's so terrible I just couldn't stop laughing, especially because the vocals sounds like an elephant XD
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PQbgdVAvC-U
Haha, WTF :DDD
Yeah, here we call them "elephant black metal."
Reminds me of Metalocalypse. "Fish needs metals too." Evidently elephants dig black metal.
i laughed pretty hard at that link .. also bands like 'buchenwald oven' etc display the superiority of the .. well, whatever race it is, since the bands come from greece (der stürmer) or somewhere in russia (temnozor was russian i believe) and for the general discussion: i was always wondering, if black metal was meant to be troll music, i never believed, that those guys were true about what they are saying, playing and what they are like. i mean, can one really take oneself so seriously? also i think its pretty funny, that the opposite of pure evil black metal is emo black metal (dont crucify me for saying it that way, thats how it appears to me), all that depressive stuff is quite hilarious to me. well, i never liked bm, except absu maybe
hahahaha worst black metal bands for me? easy!!!!!
(in no particular order)
-Burzum
-Nargaroth
-Satanic Warmaster
-Der Stürmer
-Nocturnal Depression
-Peste Noire
-Immortal
-Ad Hominem
-Gorgoroth
-Marduk (well, first albums are ok!)
-Moonblood
-Drowning the Light (shitty Satanic Warmaster clone hahaha)
-all post '94 norwegian BM clones
-all Burzum clones
-all russian or ukranian pagan/aryan/bullshit nsbm bands
-all so called "depressive" black metal (wtf???)
-ambiental black metal (since when METAL is AMBIENTAL??)
-all NSBM clowns...
i hate you
Calm down man, he's obviously on drugs.
haha, no were cool, i just...hate him.
+1
I saw Der Stürmer, Absurd and Satanic Warmaster at same show in Finland.. It was great!!! Good bands!
Well because it's your tastes, I won't think about your list here too much, but I have a view things to add.
Early Immortal(fundamental) up to Sons of Northern Darkness perhaps? -great stuff; overplayed or too "clean
" at times for some, sure, but still great riff work.
Drowning the Light-I'm sorry but even though I am only really familiar with 3 albums from Azgorh's project, I see little to no resemblance between them and Satanic Warmaster, it's more logical to compare them to Strid or Judas Iscariot or something like that. However, I am aware of small similarities between them, but that is only natural as both Satanic Warmaster and Drowning the Light often converse with one another and work with the other.
Ad Hominem-I somewhat agree with your position here.
Marduk- I stopped truly caring at Plague Angel, Wormwood was ok.....I obviously prefer Legion and Joakim on Vocals, but still, Marduk has released uncompromising black metal.
Moonblood-Um.....yeah, well whatever, you think of them what you want, but when I hear such albums as "Blut und Krieg", I hear a well worked on craft, I hear a masterpiece of pure black metal. The only have a few full length albums and some demos, all of which are pretty excellent.
Ambiental-Sorry Demosk8, but I'm pretty sure you just made this term up...if not, provide an example for me...otherwise I'm not buying this. Though there are many black metal bands that include "ambiance" if that's what you mean? This of course, is only natural given the wide variety with the paradigm of black metal's progression...it's silly not to expect some ambiance with some black metal approaches.
Just some food for thought!.......
Well, i never liked Immortal. I can't understand SW, so i see Drowning... very similar in all aspects, and that type of black metal bands are very annoying to me.
Marduk? Of course, now is a shitty band but their first albums was great!!
I see Moonblood as another angry penguin making noise in the forest, is not the sound i want for a black metal band or project.
And ambiental, well, i need to explain this:
For example, i LOVE Necrophobic, and their masterpiece "Darkside" haves a very dark and cold ambience on their music. When i mean "ambiental", i mean that bands using long samples, flutes or whatever for a track. Seems like an horror movie BSO!! Use ambiental samples for an intro/outro or for an interlude is good, but i don't like to mix ambiental samples in metal music. Also, can't understand why some people making only ambiental music (without metal) with a black metal logo style, cemetary or forest pics as a backcover and claiming to be "black ambiental" or something :S
Maybe you can't understand me or my points of view, i know i'm very closed and i have a very strong way to understand black metal but i have a good reason to say all i say ;)
Ambiental is a new one for me HAHAHA! Really though, did you mean to type ambient? And you list nsbm twice?...
"russian or ukranian pagan/aryan/bullshit nsbm bands"
A Russian or Ukrainian or pagan band is not automatically NSBM.
"A Russian or Ukrainian or pagan band is not automatically NSBM."
I know, but most of pagan bands there are NS. True story.
Or Blazebirth Hall is a punk crew for angry commies?
Well I don't think there are mostly NS bands from Slavic countries. Since those bands are my favorite, I would be one to ask about it wouldn't you say? There are bands like Anthropolatri, Kalevala, Nevid, Swiatogor, Slavland, Radogost, Beer Bear, Grai, Alkonost, Arkona(Rus) Svarga(Rus), Natural Spirit, Kurgan, Pagan Reign, Tverd, Smuta, Chur, Oprich, Simargl, SatanaKozel, Leshak, and on and on and on... waaaay more bands that are not NS, than bands that are NS.
If I were trying to argue a point about something like thrash, or bestial satanic war black metal, I wouldn't really be able to say much, since those are not my favorite. But here, with Russian/Ukrainian pagan folk bands, you enter into territory that is very familiar to ShieldbitersValhalla.
I know you are very familiar to this, but remember i mean that pagan AND nazi bands, not all pagan bands from there. I'm sure that not all russian or slavic bands are NS. But most bands i know from there like Nokturnal Mortum, Temnozor or Dub Buk are (or was) nazis or had big feelings with NS ideals or aryan supremacy. You're a big fan of this bands, so you can confirm this.
Or are "The Call Of Aryan Spirit" a multiculturalist song? Or the Aryan Terrorism NM side-project a pacifist band? And the Dub Buk artworks with blacksuns? Considering this symbol is very close to pagan and esoteric nazism.
http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3244/3129272958_5e03421c88.jpg
And this? As i said, i'm againts that bands from there WITH nsbm or racist bullshit, not against all bands!
Yes, many of the big ones like Nokturnal Mortum have been associated with NS. Also, while some bands have members who are NS, the bands lyrics and images may not have NS, such as Kroda. Despite being heavily associated with NS, and having a large NS fan base, Kroda as a band is not NSBM. I commented on a thread where Eisenslav was looking, and based on his direct reply to my own comment that I made regarding historical violence between Pagans and Christians, and based on his conversation with other people there, he came across as very anti-semitic. I also wouldn't consider Temnozor NSBM, because of the lack of NS imagery and lyrics, although the front man Gorruth has an NSBM band "Woods of Fallen", and is also the owner of Stellar Winter Records, which has releases of several outright NS bands. Also, Temnozor's guitar/bass/synth player is/was in bands such as Nitberg, Volkoten, Forest, and Vandal. Members of Dub Buk I think are certainly NS, but no imagery points to the band being an NS band. I have never seen a blacksun in any Dub Buk artwork. In a version of the Dub Buk logo is a Kolovrat, a Slavic symbol for the sun. Even if there was a plain Swastika in the logo, it does not mean NS, because the Swastika(fylfot) was used before NS existed.
This is a Kolovrat:
http://www.tattooartists.org/Images/FullSize/000133000/Img133863_IMG_493...
Used by Slavic Pagans for sun worship. Before any NS band decided to use it.
This is what is known as a Blacksun:
http://fc08.deviantart.net/fs22/f/2008/006/9/a/Black_Sun_Tattoo_by_2Face...
Used on Roman battle standards if I remember correct, for sun worship, and by Germanic people, also before NS.
As for the Death's Head, or Totenkopf, it is a symbol used in flags and for insignias by various militaries before it was used by any forces under Adolf Hitler. Although that does not stop people from associating it with NS, or people from using to represent NS.
I understand that you hate all the NS bands, but to say that most Russian or Ukrainian Pagan bands are NS is not very accurate.
Very well argumented point to this! (for me) is sad to know most of these bands are associated with NS circles. I can respect all ideals of everyone, but i don't like when this is used in metal! For this, i'm very reluctant at this type of bands, because i don't know if they are a "simple" pagan band, or a band related to NSBM and something... :/
Yes, from what I understand, there is somewhat of a movement by many people to disassociate the fylfot from NS. I read(and saw a photo) that there is a man who covered his whole body in Swastikas of designs found all over the Earth, and when people ask him about it, he tells them all about why he is doing it. It sucks how things can be used outside of their proper context, and most cannot be the wiser. Sort of like when I see a "peace" sign, I automatically think of the end of life, because it is just the inverted Algiz "death rune" inside of a circle. It's just funny how kids and adults alike walk around with tie-die death rune tshirts all the time, hahaha.
Really, huh?
The symbol is a combination of the semaphore signals for the letters "N" and "D," standing for "nuclear disarmament".[47] In semaphore the letter "N" is formed by a person holding two flags in an upside-down "V," and the letter "D" is formed by holding one flag pointed straight up and the other pointed straight down. Superimposing these two signs forms the shape of the centre of the peace symbol.[47][53][54] The original drawing by Gerald Holtom of the CND symbol is housed in the Peace Museum in Bradford, England.
Semaphore for "D"
Holtom later wrote to Hugh Brock, editor of Peace News, explaining the genesis of his idea in greater depth: "I was in despair. Deep despair. I drew myself: the representative of an individual in despair, with hands palm outstretched outwards and downwards in the manner of Goya's peasant before the firing squad. I formalised the drawing into a line and put a circle round it."[54] Ken Kolsbum, a correspondent of Holtom's, says that the designer came to regret the symbolism of despair, as he felt that peace was something to be celebrated and wanted the symbol to be inverted.[55] Eric Austen is said to have "discovered that the 'gesture of despair' motif had long been associated with 'the death of man', and the circle with 'the unborn child'."[51][56]
The symbol became the badge of CND and wearing it became a sign of support for the campaign for unilateral nuclear disarmament by Britain. An account of CND's early history described it as "a visual adhesive to bind the [Aldermaston] March and later the whole Campaign together ... probably the most powerful, memorable and adaptable image ever designed for a secular cause."[51]
Yes, I am familiar with this. I learned about the symbol's "development" and use in the particular context of the 60s in a highschool class. Is it really this man's fault that he "designed" a symbol already used by and familiar to people all over Scandinavia and Europe?
^ all of this +1
It's an immediate problem, but probably one that will last forever, with regards to symbols being automatically associated with nsdap ideals and the third reich...people forget the pagan aspect of some of this music and jump right to the thought that it must be all racist and only about national socialism.
You're right too, a swastika isn't only a nazi symbol. But try to wear one and don't expect a nice understand of the other people. Also that NS followers in black/pagan metal make it more difficult. Finally you don't know if they wear an odal rune or a solar swastika for his pagan beliefs (without nazi ideals) or is another nazi wearing NSBM tshirts.
