Hello, This has been covered possibly before however i could not find anything on the subject rather than a Top 5. Anyway The idea is to link a few bands that are not very well known. Local bands or Overseas, Just something special really. Any metal is brilliant really, including Grind/Punk/Hardcore too!
Anyway to get this started i have a few:
To start off a Thrash Band from the UK - XIII
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jx5yqiLWTCs
I heard this band on an internet radio station a few weeks ago and i was doing my little jig at the computer, pretty good!
Motorcharged Hardcore band from Japan - BATTLESCARD
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wAHIJ6D7pXE&feature=relmfu
Definitely worth a look, They remind me of Children of Technology. That is very good!
The next band Defecation are possibly known, however they deserve a mention simply because they are so badass. This is one of me favourite Deathgrind bands and it kicks so much fucking ass.

It really is. The guy makes some seriously great music. But that's the way it goes.
Another band that I don't understand why they weren't as big as many others is Obtained Enslavement. I mean... Witchcraft damn it! WITCHCRAAAAAAAAAAFT!
That album is pure majesty!

One of their flyers is about an LP release, but I don't know if they're talking about a long play record or just a longplayer/album.
EDIT: 'there will be vinyl in the future with a different layout for the insert' AW YISS.

3 other bands everyone should check out, all of whom just happened to be signed to Barbarian Wrath(RIP):
Countess (Holland) - Started out as your average BM band, but started incorporating more traditional heavy metal elements along the way and managed to create an incredibly unique sound and atmosphere no other band can match. The fact that every release is limited to 666 copies makes Orlok even more awesome!
http://youtu.be/VuZdDp9kCQI
http://youtu.be/2aTgdO0lHUQ
http://youtu.be/D-1jaJQ-714
Tearstained (US) - A one-man band that can go from Bathory inspired riffs to Hellhammer/Celtic Frost slow-mid tempo riffs and Mikael does one hell of a King Diamond impersonation.

http://youtu.be/7M6pAQd_QOQ

Tico Tyrant on
I don't feel like pulling a Tico Tyrant and listing a whole bunch at one, so I'll just list a few right now :D
Pensées Nocturnes(France) - Fronted by Vaerohn ( ex Way to End,Valhôll). He fuses romantic/baroque/neoclassical elements into a black metal approach that basically explores solitude and ambiance such as DSBM, but it's really a lot more unique than that.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d-vJZek3h1k
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0jxS1nBDPc8
Thor (Canada)- A really old school heavy metal band from Vancouver Canada. They released some mediocre albums, but their 1985 one is the one worth noting, which is entitled 'Only the Strong'. It's definitely worth looking into, a nice mix of musicianship and song quality...not exactly inventive, but very kick ass and a fun time!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QzboTtbqomk
and a live one too!- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G5hTagjh_Vg
ToxikAssault on
Oh man, Thor! I missed my only chance to see Thor last summer :(
It seems like Crowbar is unknown. They're a sludge metal band from Louisiana and they are so fuckin good. Here are a couple of songs:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mM2-iPAY2p4
^It's from their second studio album released in 1993.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zy5UnS6QSo0
^This is from their newest album from 2011, and they still kick ass.
MoreNecromansy on
I would not say Crowbar are unknown considering Kirk plays in Down and that definitely gets the band a lot of exposure and he was even on That (awful) Metal Show.
When it comes to unknown Sludge: Corrupted, Dot [.], Graves At Sea and Burning Witch come to mind.
lak89 on
I'm from Hong Kong, so here are some bands from my fellow country(city)men, there's definitely more than two, I will add more later.

Another batch!
Wojnar(Poland/Ambient/Black Metal/Folk/Slavic paganism)- Wow, what can I say? Poland's scene of black/folk and pagan metal bands never cease to amaze me. Wojnar released a series of demos from 1998-99 and a few demos, the 'Book of Veles' was his first full length..but truly its' safe to say 'Z najgłębszych borów pieśni Wam niosę ' is the breakout album.
Wojnar is a journey of Slavic/Folk pagan musicianship, combined with a direct and effective black metal approach...keyboards, flutes, guitar and varied vocals(sometimes like a story narration, sometimes like a chanting type of singing) give you a sense of really being brought back to the roots of the music, there is a really earthly texture that almost gives you the sense of being in a forest or sitting around a sacred ground with fellow warriors. Regardless of where you find your own roots, this is the kind of music that can truly give one a sense of awe and wonder...it's definitely top quality and worth a listen.
- 'Słońca Brzask' from Z najgłębszych borów pieśni Wam niosę, 2006 full length: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YYVFwiulwWg&feature=relmfu
- 'Znak Orła Białego' from Epos O Woju Z Krainy Mrozem Spowitej, 2009 full length : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YRLmIHO9rEk&feature=related
Skagos( Canada/Folk/Atmospheric/Black metal)- This is a relatively new project hailing from Vancouver Island, with members from Iskra and Fauna. Skagos is music that explores nature and the self exploration of being humane, the spirituality of things...and the ambiance of our existence, both the chaotic and the beautiful side of it. I personally found out about them through their split with Tomhet in 2007? or 2008?
Their 2009 full length, entitled 'Ást' is a musical journey well worth looking into if this is the kind of music that peaks your interests. I truly consider their approach to be the epitome of atmospheric mastery...definitely another great band in a long line of similar groups I follow. Combining classical, folk, ambient and acosutic elements and mixing it with a progressive 'back metal' feel, Skagos create a true feeling of nature and struggle within the tone of their sound. Not all the songs have vocals...henceforth, a larger impact is left on the listeners mind. This is not music for the impatient , but it is great sound for a wandering and exploring individual. It's truly brilliant work.
- 'A Night That Ends, As All Nights End, When the Sun Rises' from 'Ást', 2009 full length: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4RJShKVHu60&feature=plcp
- 'Smoldering Embers' from their split with Panopticon: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yJfkB7I2PSQ
Lhind (Germany / Shoegaze type feel/ Black metal/ Progressive/ Experimental/ Ambient ) -Well, just thought I'd share some light on a band I basically just discovered...more experimental work from the the land of the runes...and a simply refreshing take on the genre. There are definite ties to the roots of black metal, but it's easy to see variety that leads me to think this has a more progressive avant garde feel,it's just sort of skimming the surface or rock, but still very atmospheric in a way. It's a nice blend whatever it is...it is brilliant...and it is proof that this genre will never die. Deutschland vor!
A 2011 demo entitled, 'Where Ice Breathes Fire' is so far Vidarson's only work with Lhind, but you can also see his musicanship at play with fellow German band 'Treibgeist'.
- 'Where Ice Breathes Fire ' title track from Where Ice Breathe's Fire, 2011 demo: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fV8A5EeW1_c&feature=relmfu
- 'Flower of Solitude' a sneak peak into an upcoming album?!: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZRNGGbFkfXc&feature=relmfu
Tico Tyrant on
By the way, not for all my discoveries, but some....logos do play a role...they can draw people in. Anyone who says logo work and album covers don't matter are deluded. Ultimately music is the reason why I love bands, but just look at these and tell me that doesn't immediately capture your attention even if you have never heard the songs from em! To me, the music plus the visual material..it's all a complete package...and it's beautiful. I know some people think logos are all the same or boring, or not hard to do...but from the perspective of both music and art, I can honestly say these are very fitting to the bands.
