+1 :D
thrashnickdeath on
It's pretty cool. I'm starting to get into a lot more
LaUlvenDrepe on
No offense, but I personally can't stand it. The lyrics, the sound, the vocals (especially the vocals)... it's just not my taste.
ImproperBurial on
I love it, one of my favorite genres of metal.
lak89 on
I love the genre, especially Prog/power.
SatanicSchizo on
Lots of people like power metal in this area of north america. I was actually lucky enough to see the mighty THOR live a few weeks ago, their a really cheesey but awesome old school power metal band from the late 70s
Forgot about Thor! Awesome band.

US Power metal my friend is the shit! Although I would personally consider them traditional heavy metal bands. Check out: Helstar, Vicious Rumors, Liege Lord, Manilla Road, Warlord, Cauldron Born, Heir Apparent, Steel Vengeance, Twisted Tower Dire (Tony Taylor-era), Pharaoh, Riot (Thundersteel and onwards could be considered USPM), Crimson Glory, Sancuuary, Ruthless and Deadly Blessing.
Stiopa on
Crimson Glory= US Power, not traditional HM. And what about Metal Church and Iced Earth? They're shit too?
MoreNecromansy on
Completely forgot about Metal Church, first two records are essential in my opinion. Never enjoyed Iced Earth personally, probably because I can't tell their songs apart.
And I don't think you understood what I meant by "US Power metal my friend is the shit!"
Stiopa on
Aaaah, now i see Your point.
And I forgot Brocas Helm...

i love me some power metal. Sabaton and Blind Guardian are my two favorites
Slaughter Lord on
Oldschool Power Metal isnt gay, this modern Pop-Power with semi-female singer is.
Awesome Oldschool Power Metal Bands that haven't been mentioned: Heavens Gate, Heavy Load, Shok Paris, Chastain. And pretty much every Band the not-so-sure-about-their-sexuality Hammerfall covered.
MoreNecromansy on
Heavy Load and Chastain are excellent. Another band everyone should check out is Salem's Wych:

80's power metal rules...not the fucking happy smiling ''power metal'' from nowadays...yuk!
iambadcompany on
Old school power metal only...and one or two new.
TThrasher on
Some oldschool. Nowadays power metal is utter shit in my oppinion.
ManOboy on
yeah old school power metal is great like helloween, blind guardian, bands like that. i used to listen to alot of sonata arctica but after their later releases, their just not my forte anymore.
lak89 on
Yea starting from Unia onwards things just weren't the same.
Maddolis on
Power metal at its best is brilliant, same with all genres.
It feels stale because many of the most popular power metal bands are very flowery/poppy, whereas heavier or more obscure ones aren't what people listen to first, and thus they dismiss the genre. I'm not a fan of Gamma Ray, Hammerfall etc but some of the more popular power metal bands are great- Blind Guardian (one of my favourite bands) and Manowar being prime examples. As with all genres, you just need to look a little beneath the surface.
Stiopa on
Power Metal is one of my favourite genres. I love many PM bands, that I do not mention, because there are too many of them and I'm lazy, but:
I've just discovered White Skull- first (and I hope not the last) metal band with female vocalist that isn't boring to me- just listen to Asgard or Here We Are or anything from them. Federica di Boni = Female DIO.
LikkedbyDeath on
I like the older stuff, but all these female vocal + eyeliner power metal from Europe nowadays straight up bores me.
Mad Marvin on
It really depends on the bands. I really love Sabaton, always did since I first saw them in 2006 (?), and I like Blind Guardian and Gamma Ray as well, as they are more Speed Metal kind of bands.
BUt personally, I don't need many more Power Metal bands...
AleOldSchool on
if with power metal you mean bands like blind guardian, rhapsody, sonata arctica, angra, hammerfall and stuff like that, i fucking hate it! i hate everything about it, lyrics, artworks, vocal style, fans etc....i find it really "innocuous", i find no energy in this stuff, i usually call it kindergarten metal!!! if otherwise, you mean great bands like armored saints or metal church, i must say that i really respect it, even if it's not my favourite kind of stuff.
Deathcore.Is.No... on
This seems like a pretty pointless thread. It's far too broad. You should at least be a little more specific in what you're asking than just: Do you like the genre?
Wrathchylde666 on
Old Power Metal, like the great Blind Guardian and Hammerfall, is essential. I like the high, clean vocals, which in themselves, are really just extensions of the styles set by Bruce Dickinson and Geoff Tate in the 80s. And I always liked the fantasy element in lyrics, if done properly.
New Power Metal, however, does nothing but make me wince when I hear it. It comes off as corny, silly, and derivative. Way too many keyboards, and the bands look like live action roleplayers. If metal has a nerdy subgenre, its Power Metal.
NocturnalOccultist on
everyone forgets helloween!

Most power metal I never got into. But there are a few bands that I enjoy.
