So, what does everyone here do for a living?

Morbid_Welshman
Thu, 17/04/2014 - 19:14

I couldn't help but wonder, what does everyone on here do to support themselves and their Metal addiction? :)

Me, I work in a Plumber's/Electrician's Merchants, and part-time at one of the Bars at my local Football (Soccer)/Rugby Stadium :)

thrashing_death's picture

Work at the happiest place on earth.

quixotic's picture

McDonalds?

Bayernpirat's picture

gizter's picture

disneyland?

thrashing_death's picture

Disneyland? Cmon everyone knows Walmart is the real happiest place on earth.

BlueDemon's picture

Lol. Not for employees. I used to work there. Cashier in a Grocery store now.

thrashing_death's picture

Haha its not too bad. Its pretty easy most nights, only thimg that sucks is it gets in the way of shows a lot.

judascrust's picture

you work overnights there? my wife worked at walmart for 5 years in jewelry, she wasn't very happy working there; pay and benefits are shit, management was horrible, they're lazy, they jack you around throwing you in this dept and that one, always trying to write you up for piddly shit, and a lot of customers are just plain mean. she's glad to be gone!

Morbid_Welshman's picture

You test large quantities of Beer to check the ABV? :D

nightslasher26's picture

Nope,I get my fathers pension,He was a war veteran so ...

nightslasher26's picture

Every month I get little money for doing nothing believe it or not haha.Other then that I go to college...

gizter's picture
MasterDeath's picture

I work with my brother in our family company, drilling for water, soil testing for constructions, etc., for 8 years already. My dad made the machine. We have a machine similar to this one:

http://www.campbellsport.govoffice.com/vertical/Sites/%7B247D4AC2-95B0-4...

It's cool to work with my brother (only we are working on it because more people is unnecessary). I also study Electrotechnics.

Morbid_Welshman's picture

That sounds like a cool job :D

MasterDeath's picture

It sure is! It's like a gym but the difference is that people are paying you haha

Morbid_Welshman's picture

Soundslike something I'd enjoy doing :D

Hope you strike Oil, hahah ;)

MasterDeath's picture

hahah thanks but It's not possible. But if it is possible, we wouldn't take any credit, only goverment would.

meaningless's picture

holy shit..sounds impressive..

MasterDeath's picture

Thanks. You're always working in this business without stopping. When it's time to work it's time to work heh. Our working time record is 36 and a half hours without stopping. You also need to know that the lighest auger weighs around 80 kilograms which is just waiting for me haha. My brother is on command board and I'm a muscle on that machine. I simply love this job. It's always nice to see peoples happiness when they see water.

Daniel Sodomaniac's picture

Working as a house painter and been doing that for 20 years by now :).

Slaytan1c's picture

Im a house painter as well....got any work for me in Sweden? Haha

Daniel Sodomaniac's picture

Oh cool, during the summer time there are to much work here :)!

bad_american1992's picture

Drove forklifts until I almost killed someone by accident... now I work as a warehouse manager.

Joel's picture

Nothing at the moment. I'm borderline unemployable scum.

PForx's picture

I'm under 18 so I'm forbidden by law to take care of myself. Right now I'm studying and trying to figure out what I'm going to do with my life.

gizter's picture

you're not allowed to work?

Daniel Sodomaniac's picture

Hahaha that sounds strange, i started working when i was 16.

gizter's picture

i started when i was 13. my brother when he was 11 wich was not legal. but 13 was. (i think its up to 14 now)

PForx's picture

Well the Swedish labour immigrants are currently getting most of the typical youth jobs in Oslo... I can't get a proper job until I finish Norwegian high school anyways.

PForx's picture

LOL I'm allowed to work, but it certainly ain't easy finding a job when you're under 18. "Forbidden by law to take care of myself" is just another way of saying that my parents are required by law to take care of me.

J.j. Ratte's picture

I'm a legal expert and work for a company and give them legal advice. I also work on a school as a tutor ;) HAHAHA BOOOOOORING!

VoodooChild's picture

Have yet to get my first job.

meaningless's picture

atm...i do nothing.., company i was working for 6,5 years...kicked me out 3 weeks ago...because 'fresh recruited' ppl are 'cheaper' then i am...
god that piss me off...

Morbideath's picture

so such thing not only happens in China but everywhere it seems

Bayernpirat's picture

boah, Alter, du hast auch deine Job verloren?
sie klauen unsere Jobs https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AgZjBSU8ujQ

meaningless's picture

yep.dacht ich mir auch ;) ..hehe

BlueDemon's picture

Kinda weird hearing South Park in German.

Nater90's picture

I know right xD

Lizard's picture

Alta?! So 'ne Flachwichser... Kannste die wenigstens noch irgendwie an den Arsch kriegen bzw. hast was Neues in Aussicht? :/

meaningless's picture

oldmate's picture

dude thats fucking shit ! they suck. alot of the time when that shit happens something better will come along. SO good luck man!

oldmate's picture

Shit sorry.. that was about 10 years to late HAHAA oops

LifeOfDeath's picture

I'm studying forestry at the moment. I'm not sure if this is the line of business I want to work in the future, but I'll finish my studies anyways. I'll be working at the same sawmill next summer where I also worked last summer.

DeathRipper's picture

infestdead's picture

wearhouse manager / purchaser for a utility supply company (underground water and sewer supplies) been there 7 years

bad_american1992's picture

Yee bro lets hear it for warehousing hahaha

Nater90's picture

Yeahhhh warehousing!!! *pumps fists* :+

Morbid_Welshman's picture

I've done Warehousing too, worst job ever ;o

Nater90's picture

Depends who you work for and work with and what line of product it is, Mines pretty interesting and also if I make certain percent on sales I get gift cards for a music shop so I get a bunch of free CDs :]

Joel's picture

You too? I've been working in a giant warehouse for a major statewide party supply company called Classic Party Rentals since June 23rd of this year. Warehousing has gotta be one of the most inherently "Metal" jobs ever. Talk about blue-collar!

Nater90's picture

Hahaha hell yeah mate! On June 15th this year was my 4 years at my job! Warehousing is pretty cool, If I loose my job I can just go to another warehouse and get another job I have a Cert II in Warehousing, Logistics and Distribution.

Joel's picture

Sounds like everything's secure for you then. That's good.

Nater90's picture

Very much so, My work paid for it :D and Forklift license too.

Joel's picture

I'd like to get a forklift license. I've heard it can lead to a big salary increase.

Nater90's picture

Depends on where you work and what forklift you drive, If you can get onto the docks like shipping containers and what not its good money, Or just only driving forklift for your job nothing else it can be too, All varies.

Joel's picture

Got it. I'll look into that.

Nater90's picture

Could always ask a job agency to help you get it, Some of them here do it.

Joel's picture

Thanks for the advice. I will definitely look into that.

joecubbie's picture

I do my girlfriend...and school haha.

Morbid_Welshman's picture

Good man! ;L

Cannibal Lecter's picture

Lol if we got paid for doing such. Some would make millions...

gizter's picture

i'd be homeless..

KamikazeKris's picture

I'm honestly not sure if I want to laugh or cry.

Rotten's picture

Senior graphic designer but studying full time again / web design and development. Working part time with my father doing concreting - it's a cunt of a job.

Judas Priestess's picture

I studied graphic design as well. I kinda wish I took web design classes since a lot of jobs near me require the experience.

Rotten's picture

I've been unemployed for the greater part of last year because of that exact same reason. Even if the job was 95% print based, they wanted some form of web experience or knowledge - something I've never had because I've always worked in print media. I should have upgraded myself around 5-10 years ago but all my employers at the time promised further training, but never delivered. I dropped the ball - it's my own fault. So here I am retraining myself a new skill set to stay relevant in my industry - restarting at 35 years of age :/ last year was rough as fuck to say the least.

Judas Priestess's picture

I hope things get better and work out for you. It does seem to be a bit difficult having a stable job in the art field, especially graphic design since the technology is always advancing and it's needed be experienced in those programs to keep up. I remember during my first semester in college one of my professors told me that the print-based classes are dying out unfortunately. That was a couple years ago so the school probably doesn't teach those classes anymore.

As for myself, I'm a bit stuck as far as starting a good career since I either need extra experience or I need to go back to school, which I can't really afford at the moment. Hopefully I'll get some freelancing jobs soon to help me out for the meantime.

Judas Priestess's picture

Yeah you're right. I might start looking into the basics of web design/programming via the internet just to have some sort of understanding of it.

R.J.'s picture

I work in graphic design too, but for me it's the opposite; I have web experience but very little with print. Same with most of the people I work with. I've been working with a label recently doing printed flyers and album layouts, so I'm slowly picking it up. It really is two completely different worlds with some aspects.

PForx's picture

How do you become a graphic designer professionally? I'm studying graphic design and web development, but the process of getting a job seems way more complicated than with other professions.

Morbideath's picture

Hedge funds manager, but will attend my MBA soon in the USA

I work as a Concrete Mason for the city also a family man, and for my hobby of 14 years I am a rock climber.

TStorm's picture

Hell yeah for rock climbing! ive only been doing it two years now, but don't see myself stopping anytime soon!

MasterDeath's picture

My bro is rock climber too! He was a speed climber champion few years in a row in my country and he is preparing for another tournament here in Paklenica. Dani Andrada was searching for him to climb in pair for one tournament 2 years ago but my bro declined since he already had a deal with his buddy. It's not a famous sport in Croatia though, but a lot of people from other countries are attending every year to Paklenica. It's beautiful over there.

Wrathchylde666's picture

I work in production. Ive done everything from car commercials to feature films. Even some music video stuff. Its awesome, fantastic, great fun...when the work is there. It isnt always.

kimo's picture

I've had my own gardening / lawn mowing business for the last 20 years. Hard work at times but the moneys good and I don't have to answer to any asshole boss so I can't complain.

Morbid_Welshman's picture

I did that for a while, and I enjoyed it :D Something I'd like to do myself, self-employed :)

I'd still be doing it now, if I didn't get screwed-over by an unorganised boss -.-

Lizard's picture

Will have finished my apprenticeship as legal assistent in June, if I don't fuck it up. But I guess and hope, I will pass the final exams! :D Maybe after that I will work in Vienna as legal assistent, if I get the job and a payable flat.

meaningless's picture

Makler sollte man erschießen dürfen! Naja, vlt. hab ich Glück und die eine Dame, die ich mal angeschrieben hatte, meldet sich nach Ostern und die Bude ist noch frei, denn die war top und bezahlbar und ohne abgefuckte Makler. XD

I work as a technical writer for a manufacturing company that produce service truck utility bodies and industrial vehicles like lube trucks, water trucks and crane trucks. i.e. user manuals, work instructions etc...pretty dry stuff, 8am-5pm Monday through Friday. In the evenings I'm constantly working on new stuff for Kognitiv Tod. The cool thing about my job is I get to listen to music all day. The iPod is constantly running. Though I don't particularly enjoy writing stuff like "insert 1/4"-20 bolts into rivnuts and torque the hardware to blah blah ft-lbs" It is hard to hate your job when you have the luxury of experiencing music you love all day long.

Well, believe it or not, I work in the classical music business. It's been 10 years that I work on disc distribution for a french label & distro specialised in classical music from the middle-ages to contemporary classical, romantic and baroque... We also do some jazz, but my part is in the classical stuff. So, here I am, a dedicated metalhead listening to black metal at full range, and selling harpsichord, cello and opera stuff all day (and night, as I work a lot on concert venues).
