I've noticed a few action shots of people with sewing machines. I've always sewn my patches by hand. Am I the only one? Is this how you normally sew patches? Am I behind on the times?

NISSE666 said: Nice ones! I think my wife has the same Obituary and Deicide, and they are over 20 years old! Great gifts!!

I sew all of mine by hand
me too
i sew by hand also, takes long but does the job.
I would probably use machine if I had one.
By hand
by hand
with hands and blood!
Do do i !!! blood, hole and metal fingers
+1
BY HAND!
hand! I find it's so much faster.
I hand sew the ones over pockets and machine sew the rest. Machine sewing is so much easier to keep the patch straight and if you know what you're doing is faster
by hand im too lazy for a machine lol
Hand, I'd use a machine if I had one though :P
By hand. Just a needle and some thread is needed to sew, nothing more ;)
And the best is you can take it everywhere with you =D
leather looks better by machine, anything else, by hand for sure !
By hand!
You live by the hand, you die by the hand!
The fact to sew by hand, make you have a more love for your vest, because sew by hand its hard ;)
Sewing by hand shows dedication... But that's just me.
I don't have a machine, so hand.
By machine, just because my first Backpatch got unsewn a few weeks after sewing it by hand, so I didn´t trust such method anymore. But of course that's a choice of everyone.
I sewed my kutte all by hand, but for my leather project I am going to get help with someone who has a machine for certain parts of the back patch, other parts I will just use hand and my own strength. Back when I was in highschool, they taught us in home ec with a sewing machine, but it's more practical to learn by hand, even the average low quality sewing machine cost's quite a bit of money, it's simply not something I want to spend money on. I would like to learn embroidery to create my own patches, but I don't have the time....so for now, blood, sweat, whiskey and sewing by hand is the best!
machine, only at difficulty places like pockets I sew with hand
by hand. But fully understand using a machine. Would probably use a machine if I had one and knew how to use it. But I also enjoy the process of doing it by hand.
by hand especially when sewing on shaped patches.
I like sewing by hand but some patche's on my jacket has sewn with machine!..
I always do it by hand. I don't have a sewing machine but for me doing it by hand works fine so I don't see any reason to do it any other way
By hand.
Its All In The Hands.
I sew everything by hand on my kutte. I wouldn't use a machine because it's to noisy to me. Sewing is like meditation with some good music. You focus on your hands, the thread, the needle, the patch and your kutte and everything else gets blurry and doesn't matter anymore.... thats normally the point when I scream something like verfickte scheiße because I lanced my fingers again.
I like sewing by hand. It's more satisfying.
My thoughts exactly
I sew by hand. but only because i dont know how to use a sewing machine.
i sew by hand, only because 1.sewing machines are too fucking expensive 2.im too inept to use a machine 3. i feel its more personal to hand sew it, makes it that much better
Only by hand - and I never stitched my finger so hard, that it started bleeding. ^^
And I think I can sew heavier than a machine. But it takes me about 40 to 100 minutes to sew on a patch. But it's fucking worth it.
The Witchburner worte:
"By hand!
You live by the hand, you die by the hand!"
So true. In so many senses :D
I had to punch me in the face for not catching the Slayer hint.
By hand, only my backpatch on the leatherjacket was did by a machine
Sew command til woah !
i Use a machine cuz im lazy :D
This should be a poll!!
I've never EVER used a machine, everything is done by hand :)
It's just nice to look back at your jacket thinking about the many many hours you've put into it.
yeah, and on your fingers who look like it was much work. :-)
Haha, well strangly I've never got my fingers bleeding from the sewing, let's keep it that way ;)
Depends. I sew to leather by hand.
Hand only so far.
Everything by hand, except the white signed pestilence patch and the backpatch on my leather.
By hand, although, some are by machine.
you know, the title of this thread seems rather misleading.
+1
So it took 44 posts for this get dirty.
I thought this was a totalllly different topic..
I did too. XD
use the hand of my girlfriend....jejejeje....!!
I use a machine! I tried to sew a wacken patch on my kutte by hand, but i sucked.
I apply that iron on paper from walmart to make it an iron-on patch, then sew on by hand. Makes it a little easier then using pins.
By hand, and as some said earlier, it takes me around an hour to sew an individual patch, but yeah, it is very rewarding to see it finally on your kutte.
I'm about the same speed as Hárbarðr, about one patch per hour. I guess it would really be useful to know how to use a machine, and to be good at it, and have space for it. But I imagine for some of us, having a sewing machine would be like bringing a precision anti-material rifle to a fork fight. A needle and thread are much more compact, although time consuming. I haven't had any patches falling off yet.
would be like bringing a precision anti- material rifle to a fork fight, LOL - that made my day!
Nur ein Itaka bringt ein Messer zu einer Schiesserei mit (aus "Die Unbestechlichen")
Everything by hand
By hand of course. Hárbarðr and ShieldbitersValhalla, you guys are really slow :D Maybe you have a different sewing techique or something.
Yeah, it shouldn't take that long :D
Yeah, it sounds like a lot of time for just one patch :) I have no idea about sewing techniques, i just try to attach it as tightly as possible, so it'll never come off.
Haha, yes. I always double my thread, and I use a technique called the "back stitch", and I always make little short stitchings real close together. In addition to that, I am simply slow. But I think I do a good job, and none of my patches have ever come off, unless I took them off. Once I watched the movie "Dr. Zhivago" while I sewed three patches, and after the movie was done I had still not finished sewing hahaha.
Usually I'll listen to an ambient playlist on youtube for hours while sewing. It's like meditation hahaha.
Hahaha oh man! That's unheard of! At least for me haha, but the upside to that is they are secure as hell.
(double post)
I guess how much thread I'll need for a particular patch and then double it over. I also use a heavy duty needle for leather. I've redone them many times as I have to have them as straight as possible.
It doesn't help that I listen to youtube videos in the background. I spend more time searching for something interesting to listen to then sewing.
