ManOboy
Thu, 16/09/2010 - 09:09

so other then metal, what are some of your guilty pleasures MUSICAL wise.

I might get in alot of flack for this, but ill bill, necro, nwa, public enemy, and cypress hill are a few rap groups i really enjoy.

Also i listen to alternative music like beck, and john mayer.

WHATS YOURSE!?!?!

Deathcore.Is.Not.Metal.

Hey, I just met you. And this is crazy. But here's my number.

So call me, maybe?

PowerThrashingDeath

Excrementory Grindfuckers :)

meaningless

haha..live just simply GREAT :D

Tuber
Maddolis

Duran Duran.
Haven't listened to much of them for a while but A View To A Kill has been my ringtone ever since I got a mobile phone, 3 years ago or so.

Maddolis

One year later and Duran Duran are still a guilty pleasure, though I'm not quite as guilty about it.
Turns out Hellhammer listened to them a fair bit.

Rover133

Huge Jimmy Buffett and Jethro Tull fan. Seen both live over 10 times.

MetalThrashingMad

Jethro Tull is awesome

thrashbabe85

Old shit! Like Blues from the 30's. I also like harder sounding classic rock.

COTHRASHER

there is one indie band i love named fight like apes, idk why their just a cool different band. thats mine

Adrian

I went through a period where I really enjoyed Audioslave. I still give them a listen now and again along with Soundgarden

lambofgodfan00

Audioslave is good music. I've always liked them.

CALGARYTHRASHER666

I would consider myself a die hard thrasher and I have no guilty pleasues except for one band. Whenever I get into a big death metal phase, I will listen to Whitechapel sometimes. I only like the albums This Is Exile, and A New Era Of Corruption. I hate core, with the exception of these guys of course. I understand the fact that they are not metal, but they have a TRUE death metal influence in some of their songs. It's bearable to say the least. Asides from that, Fuck emo-core faggot shit like BMTH and BFMV and Suicide Silence and Job For A Cowboy, and millions more.

I also like the blues, but I wouldn't consider that a guilty pleasure. It's good music in my opinion.

mayhempunk666

kenny rogers, jerry reed, johnny cash, duane eddy, and country joe lol...dont listen to em often though

SacredTutor

To be honest Metal is the only music i listen to.

judaspriestfreak44

Call me gay but I like david bowie

mayhempunk666

CHANGES!!!!!!!!!!!!

whiteravenmetal

I like it too, not gay at all.... well, just a few.

lambofgodfan00

Nah man, Bowie's got some good stuff.

crooked_cross666

david bowie kicks ass dude\m/

Ironhead

If listening to David Bowie makes one gay, then I'm a damn faggot.

bayernpirat

Sometimes I hear Peter Tosh, Jimmy Cliff and other Reggae during work - but not by sewing.

whiteravenmetal

reggae is cool men, Marley is just awesome

lak89

Some nu-metal, as it defined much of my middle/high school years but since discovering many new quality metal bands I quickly grew out of it, I still pop in a song or two for old times sake.

diamondmaster93

Alot of people on here seems to dislike Rammstein but I think they are kickass and I like a guy who plays "swedish redneck music".

DoctorDeath

cotton eye joe? :)

lak89

Yea although I don't mind Meteora, but those two albums defined my middle school years.

lambofgodfan00

I still listen to Linkin Park. Definitely not as much as I used to, but I'll throw on some of their stuff once and a while.

maidenmad77

gilbert 'o' sullivan

Mental-Vortex

Infected Mushroom.

Stronthor

I don't see how that should be a guilty pleasure, except if it's 'not done' for a 'real' metalhead to like electronic music (which I happen to like a lot). Infected Mushroom is very nice music, except for the title track and a couple others from I'm The Supervisor.

NekroDesekrator666

I think they are fucking awesome

BeheadingN

Jazz (primarily Ella Fitzgerald) and a lot of older Country musicians.

Sumercasis

Techno. yes.. Techno. Suicide Commando is a good one. Theres just something so evil about them.

thrashinqueef

i used to love them and psyclon nine. grew away from it but its still pretty interesting

kertalaaki

actually I downloaded few songs from their greatest hits album, and... hahaha I don't know what to say.. Interesting definitely, not in a bad way. :D

lambofgodfan00

I'll have to think out properly so it doesn't seem like I'm rambling. I listen to some other stuff other than metal...just not sure how to form the answer.

Hungry_Mosher

Yeah i realy like Beastie Boys cant help it also i quite like Hayseed Dixie great covers!

sfusyron
TerrorZone

Old School Hip-Hop (like RUN-DMC, NWA, Beastie Boys, Public Enemy etc.) and underground Hip-Hop (Jedi Mind Tricks, Ill Bill, Necro, Heavy Metal Kings) Heavy Metal Kings is a new project of Ill Bill and Vinnie Paz, it's really awesome. so yeah, i like hip-hop =P

ManOboy

ill bill and necro are so fuckin cool!!!!!!!!!

TerrorZone

yeah, they fucking rule! i'm thinking you also know that ill bill (vocals) and Necro (guitar) played in the awesome old school death metal band Injustice in the late 80's? :D

i'm also pretty excited for the Heavy metal Kings debut album, it will be so awesome :D

NocturnalOccultist

I like old school (from Golden Age to Gangsta Rap) and sometimes i listen some mainstream but old school is better

The_Black_Sleep

Old Country especially Marty Robbins

lambofgodfan00

YES! I found out about Marty Robbins from Fallout: New Vegas. I like some of the other old country songs on there. I never knew about that stuff, so now I'm getting more into older country music. 'Dirt-Old Country' I call it.

Other than that, the only country I listen to is Johnny Cash, Willie Nelson, and Hank III.

slayerslayer

i hate country music . but i do remember my nan played Marty Robbins a lot when she was alive , in the late 70's, and it makes me remember her when i hear it . cool water especially.

The_Black_Sleep

I've been a fan for probably close to a decade an old boss of mine burnt me Gunfighter Ballads and Trail Songs. Great album. All of his songs tell a story. Big Iron is on it check it out.

lambofgodfan00

I actually bought that album. I can play 'Big Iron' on guitar. One of my favorites. Along with 'Running Gun' and 'Cool Water' to name a few. Can also play 'Running Gun' on guitar.

TheWitchburner

Rory Gallagher!

Hellokilly
megadeth1818

i dont know if you'd call it guilty, but i fuckin loooooove video game music. some of my fav sound tracks are Megaman X, Final Fantasy 7, Donkey Kong Country 1&2, Super Mario World, Soul Blazer, and Final Fantasy 4 to name a few...

Hellokilly

The soundtrack to most of the final fantasy is pretty fantastic
Silent hill had an amazing soundtrack too

But this song is pretty dumb but I can't help but love it ><

megadeth1818

BlueEyedBeast

How is that a "guilty pleasure"?

megadeth1818

BlueEyedBeast

kertalaaki

ELECTRIC SIX

MetalliDeth95

GIRL! I WANNA TAKE YOU TO A GAY BAR!

Adrian

Another one of my guilty pleasures is Static-X. I know some people might call them nu-metal, but I think they're really just industrial and every so often I give them a listen

eddiethehead666

i'll admit it right now, i absolutely love Sade. lol especially at the right moment ;)

hammer slammer

I'd have to say my guilty pleasures would have to be: Austrian Death Machine, Rammstein, Late Metallica, Bob Marley, Ian Dury and the Blockheads, Johnny Cash, RHCP, A couple of songs by Poison and Motley Crue, Alice In Chains, 2pac, N.W.A, Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers, Wierd Al and some other stuff I can't remember right now :P

eddiethehead666

Does Johnny Cash count as a guilty pleasure? lol the man is fuckin metal!

The_Black_Sleep

I don't feel guilty about liking them, in fact they're one of my favorite bands, but when I tell other metal-heads I dig Creedence Clearwater Revival I get the occasional confused look followed by a slow head nod.

BeefCakeAssThrash

absolutely nothing wrong with CCR..
I like listening to them when I'm on the mood

crooked_cross666

love CCR love and john fogertys voice love CCR all around

Grimslath

the occasional Status Quo marathon... some stuff like 'Kiss From A Rose' by Seal... and I love the steampunk band Abney Park. That's about the only non-metal stuff I listen to...well, apart from some classic rock stuff but I'd hardly call that a guilty pleasure!

ChrissOns

Weird topic. I never quite understood the term "guilty pleasure" when it comes to appreciating music or art in general. Whatever speaks/appeals to you does so for a reason - even though it's hard to put your finger on it or explain why. I listen to a lot of 20th century classical music that most people find 'ugly'. To me, Bela Bartok's 4th string quartet is heavier and more intense than any metal record I've ever heard - or will hear, for that matter. It's mostly metal and classical for me, but that doesn't mean I dislike the proverbial "cheese", either. I'm not an elitist. Someone mentioned Duran Duran - they have a few really great tunes - Save a Prayer comes to mind - and Simon Le Bon has a unique voice. Go ahead and shoot me for saying that in public as a "metalhead", I don't care. Back in high school other "metal" kids thought I was clueless because I listened to Slayer ànd Kate Bush ànd The Cure ànd Bach ànd Jimi Hendrix. It was their loss, not mine. Best concert I ever saw (not counting classical music)? Honestly: it was Sade. Oh and to make matters 'worse': I like crooners, as well - Sinatra, Martin, and the likes - even big band stuff from the 30's/40's. I was a kid when the first and second punk waves came along - I can still appreciate that stuff - The Pistols, UK Subs, Exploited, Dead Kennedys, and so forth. I stopped asking myself whether music is 'good' or 'bad' or 'OK to listen to' a long time ago and I feel deeply sorry for the millions of people out there with their self-imposed limitations when it comes to musical taste, not to mention the reluctance to listen to something that may be considered "uncool" by others. Who cares? Screw that. I am thrilled whenever I discover something new and interesting, whatever the genre - and I certainly don't feel the need to apologize for that.

ManOboy

yea really i dont find any of the music i listne to quilty. but it wounded like a cool title so thus i created the thread. but to add on: conway twitty, jhonny cash, charlie pride, and neil diamond are some personal favorites outside the metal genre

PrinceAdam

sex with men

BeefCakeAssThrash

hahahahahahahahahahhahahahaha xD

lak89

LOL

Gryphon

Sarah Mclachlan and Live are 2 of my favorite non-metal artists.

Gryphon

Hark Williams III is real cool.both his alt country band and Ass Jack, his punk band.
i dig bluegrass and Irish/celtic music.
the Oh Brother Whereart Thou soundtrackis is a great album.

TerrorZone

oyeah, i also really like these really old songs/artist they play on Fallout.

jeremybassmetal

Well since everybody has been mentioning punk as guilty pleasure,i fucking punk. But i dont see anything guilty about that,it's not like liking deathcore or something.I might not mind some other random shit, but id never actually find myself listening to it.Also, talking about video game soundtracks, the elder scrolls series (especially oblivion, cause i played that one the most.) had a awsome soundtrack

Seany Genovese

Ironbound

I have to admit, I like Godsmack.. I also like Nirvana. (If they count as a guilty pleasure)

BeefCakeAssThrash

LOL most Black Metal ain't even (really) satanic, but I know what you mean :) Is it really a guilty pleasure, btw? xD

BeefCakeAssThrash

Rebellious and evil things are indeed very exciting when your family is Christian (or any other belief, for that matter)Just try to tell yourself, you're not doing anything wrong, you're just expressing yourself and being exactly what you wanna be. That's one of the main points in Black Metal: FREEDOM! ;D

BeefCakeAssThrash

Venom rules, brother! :D

fuckyouiworkforslayer

dubstep is a guilty pleasure

lovecraft

ughhhhhh. Bagpipe music. Like 30 different tapes of it. And Renaissance flute music records.... but especially bagpipes, and real loud, too.

BlackMetalRights

Erhm.. I enjoy Eminem!

Plague

Haha... I'm wit u homie, but glad you said it first. Although I don't own any of his songs/albums, I do like some of them when I hear them. His songs kinda have that raw feeling, like metal does.

Doctor Butcher

old school rap

MetalxThrasher

I don't know why, but I love the Epic Rap Battles of History series on YouTube,
That, and Simple Plan... Hey, my mom showed me them when I was a kid. I'm hooked on them.

Plague

Linkin Park (glad someone already said that on the first page) and Green Day.

BeefCakeAssThrash

Faith No More?

THE REAL THING is a kick ass album!

blackstar1965

JUST The Real Thing?!?! You mean all of their albums are kick ass!

Tico Tyrant

I am sure about them being guilty at all, can't say that I have guilty pleasures with regards to music: here are some other thins I listen to:

Punk/hardcore stuff....d-beat, lots of it, not crappy punk....real punk-vice squad, doom, the exploited, g.b.h, The Casualties, Sham 69, Nausea, Skitsystem, Ex Humans, The Ray Grady's, Nekromatix, Extreme Noise Terror, etc!

Classical music from the past and present: can't get enough of it, some composers more than others, but anything by : Tchaikovsky, Wagner, Grieg, Mussorgsky, Gyorgy Ligeti,Penderecki,Berlioz etc

Big Band-really love that sound, too old for some, but I love it...I was listening to Benny Goodman all day the other day, Duke Ellington,Roger Wolfe Kahn, etc....something about visiting different eras of music is fascinating to me

I appreciate jazz as well...blues- Sinatra, Dean Martin, Miles Davis ,John Coltrane, Charles Mingus

Bagpipes-Anything by a bagpipe, I really appreciate this instrument for what it is, and the culture it comes with. As well, my Grandfather was in the Second World War, and so he really introduced me to a lot of bag pipe pieces, of course the most obvious one's off the top of my head I can think of are: Scotland the Brave, Battle on the Tyne, The Conund Rum, but I have also heard some great celtic/folk music with bag pipe music incorporated.....which brings me to my next point

Folk music from any country/pagan/Celtic Music: I love it, the different musical textures, rich cultural history, anything from:Costa Rican music(a big part of the folk music I do listen to comes from there, as do I, I am a Tico).... Donal Agus Morag and the Celtic Odyssey, to traditional flute and guitar music,I even appreciate the Dijeridoo, Jar - Domowik was one I was listening to a while ago.... pagan pieces, Brynhild Thrumublom..... music like this, is pleasing on a lyrical level and musical one....etc....moving on

Theme Music from movies and animated features(hey I am studying animation after all, it's part of my interests!): a lot, too much to even name, but for example Hans Zimmer...he is a great composer, the theme from Pixar's "UP"~by, Michael Giacchino, any themes to shows from Cartoon Network-Dexter's Labratory, Ed, Edd N Eddy, Johnny Bravo(haha this theme is the most hilarious to me) ...Howard Shore and the work done on Lord of the Rings(undeniably some of the best music composed in this era), pieces like "The Uruk Hai" "The Passage of the Marshes" "The Hornburg" and "Isengard Unleashed"

*finally* I can get into a few retro rock/pop songs...I mean, I won't even lie...the other day I listened to: ZZ Top, A Ha and Men Without Hats haha!

Plague

Woulda been easier to list what u DONT listen to LOL

NocturnalOccultist

I like classic too lke Vivaldi,Mozart,Beethoven,etc... and i also like movie soundtracks too! Now im doing the Safety Dance :p

doomy1

The beastie boys - fight for your right to party, only because of the Slayer connection... and maybe a bit of early brian adams, though i draw the line at - everything i do... lol.

doyle92

Beastie Boys should never be a 'guilty' pleasure!!!

vomitoxic

I really cant say what is "guilty pleasure" for me because everything I listen, I listen it proudly. If someone has some problem with what Im listening, it is his/her problem not mine. Anything that sounds good to me, I listen it.

Tico Tyrant

preciesly....+1

kertalaaki

best comment of this topic.

KRE8

Cypress Hill is lame man... but NWA is the shit :D.
I'm also into underground hiphop/rap. Eazy-E is probably my favorite. 2Pac, Immortal Technique, Jedi Mind Tricks, and Run DMC go hard!

Pwnsmasher

I listen to some alternative/rock like A Perfect Circle, Tool, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Nine Inch Nails, and Alice in Chains. Metal still rules \m/

metal_thrashing_dad

80's pop (Duran Duran, Depeche Mode, Roxette, Madonna, Prince etc.). I Like U2, REM, Smashing Pumpkins, Manic Street Preachers, the first two Oasis albums, Red Hot Chilli Peppers, "American Idiot" by Green Day. But i have to admitt that i always loved ABBA.

ThatzNOTmetaL

david bowie

kertalaaki

.

The_Black_Sleep

The Jeff Healey Band after watching Roadhouse lol

Rocket_Propelled_Gummi-bear

Incubus, obviously not the metal one. I don't think it as a "guilty pleasure" since I really enjoy them and I'm not ashamed of it. I own lots of Incubus albums.
I also listen to QOTSA, Them Crooked Vultures, Nuclear Rabbit (a really freaky band) NIN, A Perfect Circle, The Residents and Mike Patton's stuff.

The_Black_Sleep

Classic Motown (Marvin Gaye, Temptations, Smoky Robinson, Stevie Wonder) I'm a sucker for the stuff, I dig all of it.

LaUlvenDrepe

I like many different styles of music and I'm definitely not ashamed of it! Lots of classical music, especially if it's nice and dark, grunge (like early Pearl Jam, Soundgarden, Mother Love Bone, etc.), folk music, game soundtracks (especially Final Fantasy), alternative rock (mostly 90s bands and artists, for example Crash Test Dummies and the Spin Doctors). Stuff like that...

cambotero

U2, Cyndi Lauper, Michael Jackson, Moby, Chris Isaac, Hoobastank(early), Alice in Chains. Guilty? naaah, just im not a closed mind. :D

Mitchell

metallica is my fav death metal band

lak89

Those blastbeats are unreal right?

Maddolis

I don't know, Dream Theater have them beat in the blastbeat department :P

meaningless

i also listen to some german-hiphop stuff...the music isnt nothing special or great, but FUNNY lyrics keep me laughing and that the point i rly enjoy :)

beside this..there are some rly nice FEMALE-voices in the R'n'-Scene of middle '90. No idea about new stuff.
...i think..thats my 'Guilty pleasures' musical-wise which arnt metal ;P

CommunistKruzher

Caifanes, i really enjoy their music, they have this urban style and great lyrics.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=znhWBJ-V4gg&feature=related

BabyEviscerator

I'd say Mushroomhead is like a good version of Slipknot.
Jazz, Disco and Techno, too.
What? I like to dance.

Terroristic-Hammerings

Metal or Die!

TheBerzerker2031

Mushroomhead is pretty good, not that nu-metal shit, and were also doing shit way before Slipknot and the nu-metal era. I like some of Disturbed's stuff and Five Finger Death Punch's music. Atleast the fans of those bands aren't like the deathcore/emocore bands. I've met and seen MRH and 5FDP fans and they're both pretty hardcore fans and are serious with their bands and aren't whiney assholes like some people receive them as.

"I beat the shit out of some kids today. But it was for a purpose. It made me feel good about myself. It was like I did something constructive with my life or something, I dunno, like I accomplished something" - Billy Bob Thornton(Bad Santa)

Reborninblasphemy666

Indeed!!, that 2-1-6 Incognito-Mr.Bungle-ish rockin' band. I have 5 of their albums (Mushroomhead, Superbuick, Remix, M3, XII).

"Imma EVIL MUTHA FUCKA JOE!, I STRAIGHT UP SHOT A MUTHAFUCKA!, SEE, THAT'S EVIL, I BET YOU AIN'T SHOT SHIT, SHOT YO MUTHAFUCKIN' LOAD IN YO HAND, JOE, IMMA EVIL MUTHA FUCKA JOE!"

" I'M MAD AS HELL!!!! I HOLD YOUR THROAT WITHIN MY NAKED HAND
I CAN NEVER HOPE TO HAVE YOU HEAR
MY WORD I LOSE CONTROL AT THE
SIGHT OF BLOOD I VISIT YOU THROUGH
SIX FEET OF SOIL BITCH!"

Phosphorous_Redeemer

Rammstein! Fuckin love rammstein. Some songs that arent metal, like this country song about how guys in society are feminine and emo. Weird Al is alright

BeefCakeAssThrash

no Wierd Al is not alright.. he's fucking MASTER!!!

subhumanbeing

i love the Ga... Lady Gaga... and i don't feel guilty about it.

whiteravenmetal

AHA!!shame on you!!... lol jk

mayhempunk666

im starting to love the Offspring

MetalliDeth95

I find that one song by Enrique Iglesias called I Like It pretty catchy, but that's pretty much it.

Terroristic-Hammerings

omg man you just made me laugh
