Ditto on Dragonforce
Also Black Dahlia Murder now they're not my personal taste but they're not a core band and I justthink its more because of the types of crowd they're popular with being the big reason they get shit on to the extent they do.
I forgot about them, I definitely agree with you.
Plague on
Yeah, Dragonforce has really badass guitar riffs. I do (did) like BDM (not as much as I used to) but they are an awesome band and I did see them live. They didn't suck and the crowd wasn't full of core kids. I agree that BDM does tend to attract the wrong crowd imo. Fuck, Skeletonwitch opened for them and they are NOT core.

I LOOOOOOVE Evile. I really don't see the reason to give them shit anyway, I mean they're a really good band with some excellent songs.

I loved their first album.. but now when I see the music video for "In Memoriam", it just makes me sick..
I loved In Memoriam. Mainly because I really like ballads. You have to remember though, it was a tribute to Mike.

I think Burzum gets plenty of love. Ik some may hate, but ultimately I think Varg has more fans than haters in the BM scene.
Metallic_Storm on
Completely agree with you Hárbarðr, whenever I listen to Varg's works I completely forget about Varg's views and i'm completely captivated by his works. Even his new stuff, as much hate as it gets, is pretty well thought out.
SatanicSchizo on
I agree, I think it's more Varg that gets shit rather than Burzum. I've heard LOTS of people go on about how much they hate Varg, yet they cannot deny how awesome Burzum is.

I don't think I've heard Rush take "too" much hate.
Inhuman on
Rush??? I've never known anyone who hates rush, and if there is someone, I'm sure that that person doesn't even deserve to be a metalhead.
mayhempunk666 on
i cant stand rush, care to defend your statement?
Inhuman on
Well, I just don't understand how someone who calls himself a metalhead can "hate" bands that were the main influences for metal in general (f.e Rush, Deep Purple, Led Zeppelin, The Beatles, etc) In my opinion I think is just pretentious and stupid to say that you hate any of those bands.
On the other side, Im not saying that it's wrong that you don't like any of those bands, I do respect that it's just a matter of tastes. But there is a BIG difference on saying "I hate" and "I don´t like".
My main point is that if you don't like bands like Rush, it's ok, and I'm not against it. What I'm against, is people who throws shit to bands (like Rush) that have influenced their actual favorite bands, I think it's stupid, and as metalheads, they should at least respect bands that made metal the way it is now.
mayhempunk666 on
well, the way i see it is this. I hate rush's music. Never liked it, doesnt do anything for me. It's not bad music, quite the opposite. I can hear the greatness of the musicianship and understand why people love them. Just not my bag. I respect them as musicians and i respect their influence, but i still dont like them
ShieldbitersValhalla on
Bands that people misunderstand, namely Graveland. Obviously, the band has a past operating alongside NS names and has a large NS fanbase. In a part of a recent interview conducted by Valhalla Promotions, Rob actually discusses the history of the band being associated with NSBM, and he does state he did used to have a more radical world view, but now it's not like that. I don't remember the interview word for word, but essentially, that's the message I got from it.
eddiethehead666 on
I've always liked Graveland, especially Rob's early stuff. I've never really seen any "nazism" in his music. Of course, as you said, he has associated himself with NS bands, Like Honor or Absurd, but Graveland just seems to me like a typical Pagan/Viking pride type band. I've never really seen anything inherently racist about it.
ShieldbitersValhalla on
Yeah, I actually only know of one thing that would make people think it's NSBM, and that's inside the split with Honor:
http://tshirtslayer.com/files-tshirt/imagecache/shirtview/user-934/ed944...
Other than that, as far as I know, no Graveland content connects him to such a movement. It's really like it identifies more with a Pagan/Viking pride like you say.
I was talking to a guy at a show in my state about Graveland, and he was utterly convinced it was like total NSBM. I just gave up trying to explain it to him.
Rob's old Facebook had lots of old group photos at Wolin festival and other places, with members from other bands, I can't remember exactly which, but there were some photos of him with either Pragnavit, Perunwit, or Piorun, one of those that started with a P, and many other musicians. Anyway, I could see how he can be connected to the radical scene as a result of his working with these individuals, not to mention Capricornus(Capricornus, Thor's Hammer). Alot of these guys in the 90's Polish scene had connections to lots of other projects, and many of the projects were NS or at least very patriotic like Archandrja, Wilk, Warhead, Aryan Terrorism, Wojnar, and so forth.
I'm sure he's got lots of old friends. Plus, it doesn't help to stop the rumors when he keeps getting tagged in people's Facebook photos that are like NS shrines haha.

I wonder why it is that lots of sites like that are confirmed to distribute malicious software...
But The Pagan Front isn't that underground, I don't know why a site like theirs would be like that. I mean it's not like they're totally unknown and have barely done anything.

Hands down, Cradle of Filth and Dimmu Borgir. Cradle and Dimmu both have gotten fame and money, sure, and ( particularly in Dimmu's case ) have progressed from what they started as but just because its easy to get a bands t-shirts and they have actual production values does not mean they suck.
BruteAxe2011 on
A G R E E D ! ! !
Those two bands have been so solid in their musical output. Yeah, some of the shit that each band does is a bit goofy (Dani Filth's most recent "look" [http://www.fearnet.com/news/interviews/b24848_exclusive_dani_filth_talks... - WTF is he supposed to look like here?!?!] and Shagrath's leather dress and snakeskin cowboy hat, among other things), but both bands are far too interesting musically to hate. It's "cool" to do so, so everyone seems to do it.
I personally love both bands, and will continue to do so until such time as they put out inferior (in my opinion) music.
BruteAxe2011 on
A few bands that I feel get too much hate (and I know you all are gonna hate ME for at least the first two):
Five Finger Death Punch / Nickleback - What the hell is wrong with heavy, catchy, frat house rock?
Five Finger Death Punch - Yeah, maybe a bit too thick on the bullshit machismo angle at times, but their music is SOLID punchy, catchy metal.
Nickleback - They don't really have a solid identity, and that I have to fault them for. Are they metal, hard rock, country, blues, AOR adult contemporary? This is something they need to figure out. However, if anyone can tell me that the songs "Animals", "Never Again", and their cover of "Saturday Night's Alright for Fighting" truly suck, then that person has a problem. I enjoy about 50% of Nickleback's music, and can't stand the other 50%. But there is no reason for them to get so much hate.
Whitesnake - Solid British bluesy hard rock. Nothing more, nothing less. Musically in the same class as Deep Purple for me. Yeah, poofy haired Whitesnake looked a bit silly, but their music was always badass.

Animals is indeed a great tune, i laugh my ass off everytime i hear it

Metallica. I really don't care if they "sold out" in the 90's and early 2000's, all their work is absolutely amazing IMO. I mean, I get why people don't like Lars, but the band itself doesn't deserve as much shit as it gets.
LaUlvenDrepe on
I honestly couldn't care less about what bands I hate and what bands people mostly hate, so I tend to not think about these kind of things.
I just do my own thing. If I like a band, I support them, if I HATE a band, I don't waste my time on them, nor do I waste my time whining over the internet about how much they suck. That's just ridiculous to me. Just move on, damn it.
On a side note:
I have noticed that a lot of the hated bands receive such negativity because they moved on from a certain music style or genre (Metallica, for instance), or as most people call it... "sold out." I personally think that is the biggest load of crap.
Even in extreme cases when the music has changed so much that it's practically an insult to hardcore fans (Metallica, Dimmu Borgir, Cradle of Filth, etc etc.), I still think that the term is wrong. In fact, I RESPECT real musicians who have the courage to make music for themselves and not for their fan base. Why? Because music needs to feel natural to the musician, not forced because of a stupid fear about what the press/fans are going to think. Even though I loathe some bands' "progress", I still think it's better than witnessing a band pour out forced music, because let's face it... that's the worst music of all.
And of course, sometimes they change for the wrong reasons. Maybe they changed not because of different musical pursuits, but because they wanted to be accepted by the mainstream in order to sell sell sell. THOSE assholes are definitely not real musicians, but unless they publicly admit it, it's hard to tell the motive of why some bands change their style so drastically.
Either way, my point remains the same. I just move on if I hate the band, and if a band changes too much that I am offended, sometimes I just stop listening to them all together. Big deal.

-Metallica: I still have quite a huge respect for this band...despite the mediocre material from them, they've still created some killer stuff and I don't really give too much of a flying fuck about the drama surrounding them.
-Graveland/Drudkh/Most pagan 'NS' bands: Not only is Graveland(and some of these bands) hated, but misinterpreted....so many people think all Graveland is about is racism and radical ideas. While it does rear it's head in some of Rob's work, I also find Graveland to be incredibly pagan, heathen and very justified, in terms of his lyrical creativity and basis in Graveland. Lumping Graveland in with bands like Waffen SS or Der Sturmer is just silly....it would make more sense to lump in his work in Legion or groups like Veles(pol) with NSDAP metal. To me there is a definitive difference between NS metal and NSDAP metal, most 'metal heads' just fail to see there is a clear difference.
-Behemoth: They aren't my favorite death metal group, but they aren't shit on a stick either, put on a great show IMO...though I do prefer their earlier work in the albums: Grom, Satanica, Demigod and The Apostasy!
-Cryptopsy: As far as I'm concerned, despite how angry they have boiled my Canadian/Tico blood with their last effort at music, this has and always will be a death metal classic band, both Mike and the Worm created wicked stuff alongside Flo....I did really stop caring for em after Once was Not, but even 'And then you'll beg' had some fucking awesome tunes: "We Bleed" for example, or "Shroud".
-System of a Down: That's right, I said it! I actually met these guys..and despite the heavy political influence in some of their music, they still have managed to peak my interest with a variety of topics in their lyrical basis. It could just be that their combination of metal roots and other musical sounds that seem so unique, that it works...or it could be the fact that I basically consider them the only Armenian band I know worth listening to, other than a few obscure black metal bands. Either way, nu metal or not...I dig em...I just..DO!

It's all about taste, reading through these comments, looks like people on here like some more mainstreams bands along with death/black/tharsh. Just like what you like, haha. Don't live your life with one belief because you don't think you'll be considered "true". Because IMO, that is poser. Being a "true" metalhead or whatever is what you consider to be true and good. I don't like Slipknot, BFMV, or anything like that. But I won't judge someone who does. My music taste is 80's thrash and 90's death metal. That's what I have come to enjoy from everything I have found in music. Anyway, enjoy music guys and don't let other people bring you down. I'd say Slipknot. I personally don't like them, and honestly that is where it ends, I don't see any reason for all the hate. I think Slipknot is often wrongly classified but that is no reason to hate the band, but rather the idiots classifying them as things they are not.
