Feb 2017 Update: https://tshirtslayer.com/battle-jacket/classic-rock-and-heavy-metal-patc...
My patch vest with bands that I enjoy listening to. Most members of this site won't consider most of the bands very heavy, but it is what I enjoy listening to and don't judge others on their metal tastes.
Currently a work in progress that I started about 8 months ago. All patches are hand sewn including the cross back patch modeled after the fret inlays on Tony Iommi's guitar. I left the cross blank so that I can collect signatures if I am to be so fortunate.
The vest currently has patches from 75 different bands with only two duplicates. Plans are to keep adding until full, then tear everything off and set it up in a much more dense arrangement. Some patches are vintage, some official, some bootleg, and some custom.
Please let me know what you think of my work, but I don't need a reminder that Steve Miller Band isn't metal enough for you. Thank you for your time.
June 1, 2016 Update: I have posted one more image to show my current progress with the vest. Ripped everything off over Christmas and have been slowly sewing everything back on in a tighter layout without overlapping logos. I have acquired a few patches since my last post so I hope to have all the patches I currently have sewn on in the next month or two, and then I will post a proper update. Doubt I will have it filled for at least a year or two.

Nice vest, man! I really dig that Primus Patch! I really like their music, as well!
Nevs on
Thank you. I appreciate your kind words. I checked out your 'Philthy's Beauty' and I really like the patchwork look. Once I get too many patches I plan to strip them all off and sew them tighter with some overlap. Going to be a challenge though with all the shaped logo patches, as my goal is zero overlap of the logo portion of each patch. And Primus Sucks!

All the classics on your vest man, that Primus patch indeed is gorgeous, I also liked the blue öyster cult patch
Nevs on
Thank you. I am definitely a fan of the classics. Primus is definitely an interesting band and I don't know if I would like them as much if it wasn't for Les Claypool's insane talent on the bass guitar. It seams like what ever project Claypool is a part of they play the weirdest stuff, but with his playing it always ends up sounding funky and awesome. And BÖC is for sure one of my favorites, and patches are hard to come by.
Dragonauta on
Les Claypool side projects are great also! my favorite is Colonel Claypool's Bucket of Bernie Brains also known a C2B3, Buckethead on guitar and Bernie Worrell on keyboards with Les all improvising is insane.
Nevs on
As much as I appreciate his work with Buckethead, my personal favorite would still have to be his stuff with the Frog Brigade. Something about a live cover of Pink Floyd's Animals album in its entirety with Claypool on bass...
Rover133 on
all great stuff. Where did you get the Outlaws patch?
Nevs on
Thanks. I purchased the Outlaws patch online from Amazon (US) from a seller named Brockum. If you type in "Outlaws Rock Music Patch" it should be the first result to come up. Same seller as the Cinderella, Whitesnake, Warrant, and Genesis patches.

Primus sucks!!!!
Killer taste mate, Liking this a lot.
Nevs on
Thank you. Yours looks great as well. You should throw a Primus on your vest. I see we have a few bands in common, like Metallica, KISS, Black Sabbath, and Pink Floyd.

Thanks mate.
Very much so, I intended to but I am close to out of room, I am thinking of fixing it up a little after my next project.
Nevs on
Ya, in that respect I feel I have a bit of an unfair advantage. Starting out with a size XXL Levi Strauss jacket gives one a lot of room for patches. People of a smaller build have significantly less room and therefore have to be very choosy for patches. I have 79 patches on the outside and plenty room for more, especially if I rearrange them to touch with some boarder overlap.

Nice selection! Do you remember where did you get this Kansas patch if you don't mind me asking? Also, is the Heart patch woven ? - it seems to look really good.
Nevs on
Thanks. The Kansas patch comes from a website loja.rockvest which is a Portuguese website but they shipped to Canada for a decent price. Google translate is an asset. Also got the Thin Lizzy, Asia, BTO, Heaven & Hell, CCR, Diamond Head, and Slash patches from them. Not the highest quality (especially BTO), but some hard to find bands. The Heart patch is not woven, it is embroidered (and it does look really good). I got it from an ebay user named pandasevenstore, same as the Judas Priest patch. Seller is from China and shipping to Canada takes over a month, but the quality is really good and price cannot be beaten. Also have Bad Company, April Wine, and Cream patches in the mail from the same seller and hope to get them in the next couple weeks.

Thanks for the informations, that's very kind of you, I'll check this out.

Don't feel bad, Steve Miller Band is a personal favorite of mine, love the CCR patch too! Plus I have Billy Joel, Neil Young, and the Grateful Dead among others on my vest
Nevs on
Oh don't worry, I don't feel bad about it. I have been considering putting on a Neil Young patch but I personally dislike his politics. I just need to separate his classic music from his political agendas. I am just looking at yours right now and it looks awesome. I hope to one day have that kind of density and cover the whole thing. Looks like a lot of your patches are DIY, including the Neil Young?

This vest is so awesome there are no words to even describe it with! Very nice work man straight to favorites
Nevs on
Thank you. I am looking at yours right now and we have a very large amount of common bands. I also like a lot of the non-band patches on the back of your vest. Keep up the good work.

Awesome! CCR? Queen? The Outlaws? What's *not* to love about this vest? NOTHING. It rules!
Nevs on
Glad you are able to enjoy the classics. I know it's what I was raised on and it is still what I enjoy. Thank you for your kind words.

AWESOME vest. I hear ya about the patches. People on here frown upon STRYPER patches. I dont give a shit...lol..i love STRYPER.

They say that people to listen to heavy metal are the most intolerant group towards other people's musical tastes. I do think that partially comes from the fact that the music is better than other genres (obviously playing on the stereotypes here). But as a more serious note, guys do get quite passionate about their music and in the end they have to remember what they feel for their music a lot of other people feel for their own. I can quite honesty say I am not the biggest fan of some of the sub-genres like black or death, but I can still appreciate the talent that the musicians have and the evolution that the music had to take to get there.

Whoa! This is RAD!
Nevs on
Thank you. To be honest I ripped all the patches off this vest back in December and am still working on sewing them all back on in a closer but not logo-overlapping way. Also got a bunch of new patches and hope to be able to post pictures in a month or two.
Cosmoblaze on
I'm really looking forward to it. Loving the CCR patch and Kansas as well.

very cool Genesis patch!

Thanks man. I posted an updated photo to give an idea of what it currently looks like. Hope to do a proper update in a month or two when I have everything I own sewn on.

Great update! Love bands like Heart (Barracuda!), Journey ( Steve Perry just is the best vocalist there ever was and will be), CCR (Sweet Hitchhiker!) and numerous other bands that are on your jacket. Also love the idea behind the cross! Keep up the good work and I'm curious how this will look when it's finished (if there is such a thing as a finished battle jacket;-))
Nevs on
Thanks. Ya it looks completely different now after the update. I am also excited to see it when it is full (but never finished).
Cosmoblaze on
WOW, this is just.....RADICAL!
It's actually getting full now.
Nevs on
The mass of patches is definitely creeping its way all over the vest. Front left side is basically covered, front right is about half way up, and the back as you can see in the picture is about a third of the way up. All pockets are still 100% usable and I added a few additional ones inside as well.
Cosmoblaze on
Yeah that's amazing. I'm still trying to fill line up but I haven't bought a vest yet haha. Keep it up though. This is so cool.
